Late game spoilers:
Actually I'm really really early in the game but I was spoiled by a YouTube thumbnail.
basically it showed what looks like Noctis and probably Luna holding each other at their wedding

This really pissed me off and deflated my hype. I guess I'm asking if I should just keep playing and not worry about it (aka way more stuff happens and I possibly have it misinterpreted, or is that essentially it?

You should keep playing because you don't know the context and it's not what you think it is.

It was great! It's too bad it's one of maybe 5 side quests out of hundreds (?) that doesn't entirely consist of "We need Item X, go to Place Y" and that I already knew it from the demo.

I'm now at Chapter 6 and I just started skipping all of the side content because it's just an endless grind without payoff. Coming off of Witcher 3 wih its amazingly realized world full of items, equipment and stories to find and countless narrative-driven side quests, this soulless collection of utterly boring fetch quests just seems just bizarre.

The Witcher 3 for sure has a lot of things over this game when it comes to contextualizing its side quests, but itemization, really? It's one of the game's huge issues. I'm actually getting much more useful loot in FFXV than in Witcher 3.

Yeah, it was full of items and equipment. All of them worse than what you already have, or if they're better, you can't equip them yet and will definitely have better stuff by the time you can.

Why do you care how people play the game? It's not lilke the side content is that good.

I'm not brandon, but while I don't mind people playing the game however they want, I do mind them spreading misinformation because they missed things playing that way. Like the considerable amount of incorrect "you can't know this unless you watch Kingsglaive" comments. There's a lot of information in the game, but you have to actually pay attention instead of playing Pokemon during car rides (that's something that was actually said in the prerelease thread).

Of course, it being there and it being good are entirely different things, but if the person didn't even know the information was in fact there, how are they qualified to say whether or not that's a good way of conveying said information? Or is it a Blighttown situation, where a lot of people talk shit about a very well designed level just because they died a lot? Not even saying it's a very well designed narrative, in this case, just the general idea of "if I'm having issues, then it's bad".

Listen...

to the baneful chants!

Prompto: "Gladio, can I take my 100th picture of you?"

Turns around

Jesus Christ, lmao.

This game has one of the biggest oversights in game design I've ever witnessed. I'm talking about the fact that you can't sleep/wait till morning without cashing in EXP. Fucking clowns!

I really want an item that limits leveling up too. Would be great for level 1 runs or just generally keeping yourself around the main quest level while you do side shit.

Just run around at night and try to avoid the terrifying monsters that show up. Stock up with the EXP. It's thrilling. 😋

Question about chapter
14

Did I miss anything or
are Cindy and Cid not in hammerhead? I was hoping to see them older, just wanted to make sure they weren't actually there and I just overlooked something

Still a good game just dont expect it to be a looker.
I'm starting to think people are looking at very different things. I'm finding this to be one of the most technically impressive games of the year on consoles. Not DOOM or Uncharted level, mind you, but very VERY impressive. Light years beyond other RPGs on consoles. An incredible GI system with real-time ToD changing, high quality materials galore, insanely detailed characters, huge draw distances with a real sense of scale and one of the most impressive animation systems I've witnessed in a while. The way in which character animations react so naturally to everything is really incredible.

Compare that to the unbelievably stiff looking Witcher 3 or just about any other RPG of the generation and it's night and day.

So just got to the first bit of Kingsglaive footage in the game and that was terribly implemented. If you haven't watched the movie it just looks like a few flashes of nonsense with a bunch of characters you don't know and explosions. Honestly, it would've been better without showing you it.

I'm starting to fear that Tabata wanted to make an open world game, finished the first map, realized it was 2016 and then rushed the second half. I'm on chapter 3 and judging by the approximate length of 50 hours for a main story + exploration walk through, it feels like I'm doing most of the content of the game at the beginning.

I could have sworn Tabata said this was in the game. I think he said the same thing for NG+ but both are missing

Yep, I remember that too. He actually said more recently that NG+ wasn't in, so I guess there's that, but I don't think they ever went back on their word for an item like that.

Should be a rather painless adition in a future patch, though. It seems like A LOT of people want this.

I'm kinda glad it happened, if that's the case. The map is really damn big, not sure if I wanted another one just as big. From what I read, the linear parts aren't very well designed, so they could make that better, but a new huge open map? Thank god it's not the case.

There's nothing more negatively overwhelming than finally finishing all you want to do in an open world, advancing the main quest and finding out there's another huge map full of stuff.

Agreed, anyone who hasn't seen Kingsglaive would just be confused.

Chapter 5 questions.
I'm about to leave with Iris. Is this my last moments in the open world? Is there a best place to buy weapons at this point? Finally, what chapter will those other doors in the dungeons open up?

I am wondering if there is something wrong with the pro patch for 1080 users. Its really poor, if I could take accurate screens to show you I would. The difference between IQ on this and WD2 for instance is literally night and day. The backdrops on this look blurred and out of focus.

Basically how I feel about it. Everytime I see someone say that its an ugly game, I scratch my head. I think it's doing some impressive things especially for the scale of the game.

Yeah when I saw that earlier I just laughed, they could have just kept that.

ok. i need some clarification here in lestallum

so there's a power plant here. and apparently only women work there. ok. and tons of women around lestallum are wearing what looks to be protective gear. i assume that's because they work at the power plant. but why the fuck is the protective clothing exposing their asses and crotches. what the fuck

Chapter 3: How the hell do you get to the waterfall?

I've never felt so walled off by an open world game before. So often you feel walled off by cliffs, or roadside barriers, or even invisible walls (which should NEVER be in an openworld game imo).

So I spent 10+ minutes running down the road trying to find an exit to the waterfall. No dice. Go around to the river, try running up the river... invisible wall + cliff combo. Really frustrating, this doesn't feel like a proper open world at all, and in all that time I saw no distractions, diversions or anything interesting at all.

I think the only thing this game has over Witcher 3 visually is animation. That's it. It's nice looking. It doesn't compare imo, otherwise.

I think if anything, the non-important cutscenes (i.e. most questline NPCs that aren't Dino or Cindy) are a bit jarring when it comes to their animations and lip flaps, but that's to be expected in a game with so much side content. Even Dino repeats his hand gesture a little too much. Monica for example also perpetually looks like she just drank the blood of the damned or something.

Agreed, I watched the movie and if I didn't I'd be like wtf just happened, who's that, what's going on. I actually would have enjoyed the beginning more if it wasn't in there. Showing that just raises more questions then there would have been before that was in the game.

Why do people act like everyone enjoys mmo sidequests and walking across empty terrain.

Isn't that how FFXV was advertised? I always got the impression that half of this game was shown off as a fantasy epic, and the other half was always shown off as a very chill road trip with not much actually happening.

I get the complaints, they are completely valid. However, I sort of expected that this is how this game would turn out, especially after playing Episode Duscae.

Bloody hell, when you're surrounded by armed soldiers with all of their sights on you, what are you supposed to do? So annoying, I've gone through so many potions taking out trash that are levels below me.

5 and a half hours in and I'm getting the hang of the battle system now. Starting to unlock a few things for my team mates in the "teamwork" tree which is making them much more dangerous.

Here's my Flickr album btw for anyone interested. Playing on PS4 pro, screenies taken are a mix of High Resolution and "lite mode".

Keep tapping square. You'll look like Neo out of the Matrix.

Honestly, I don't have a huge problem with the blurred look. Better that than jaggy. It could be improved, sure, but I don't think it takes away from the visuals too significantly.

This looks pretty darn good for a direct capture

Fair enough. I think Witcher 3 is one of the most visually overrated games of the last 10 years. I don't think it looks really all that good at all. XV decimates it in my book. W3 has zero sense of scale, horrible grass textures everywhere, inferior lighting, mediocre animation and an overall jerky appearance. It can look decent enough on a beefy PC, I suppose, but the console versions are simply awful.

Hmm so you're saying the German ones are worth a try?
I mean you can always change it back to Japanese/English..try it!

I found them to be funny and during 30 minutes of time playing in German only once noctis sounded "off". I've heard way worse dubs on TV/Anime/other games. Expect some voices to sound corny..but well the German dub is definitely "handfest"

So Carbuncle is definitely in the game. I think he follows you around like a ghost or something. Prompto just accidentally caught him on camera during a battle. I'm playing on normal as well.

How would you guys compare this to The Witcher 3? That is my favourite open world RPG so I hope this holds up reasonably well before getting it.

I played it on PS4. Never really cared for the series before it, so I say this with no special reverence or anything. I was blown away by the details. The forests, the crazy attention to detail in the landscape, the vistas. I think this game, so far as what I've seen doesn't hold a candle, except in where it excels, the animation.

Feels like we're both talking about different games. To each their own.

This is me. And I played W3 on PC. Always think I'm in crazy town when I see people praising W3 for looking amazing.

Reveal W3? Yeah, looked awesome. What we got...meh.

FF15 is one of the best looking open world games ever.

I just got to the part in chapter 1 where
they show the clip from Kingsglaive about Insomnia falling
. Before the patch that added the Kingsglaive clips, was there something there in its place? Or did they just skip right to the scene where you wake up?

The animations, battle effects and lighting are all the quite nice. The textures look a bit rough to me but I never really play open world games to compare with

So I snoozed on this release and am trying to pick it up now.

I'm a bit confused by the various editions, pre-order bonus', season pass...

What should I be buying? I'd like to be as complete as possible (PS4).
