Thank God for the portable mp3 player. I can just hit up some music from older ff games. This game's soundtrack is so freaking bland. I was hearing all this buzz about it being great too.. I bet there's some good tracks on some bosses or specific set pieces but the music you hear 95% of the time is blegh.

I actually really liked Chapters 1 and 2 in this game, especially coming off of Kingsglaive. So far the narrative has been fine. After playing Star Ocean 5 with its "interactive cutscenes" I feared that the same would be true of this game: it's not. For an open world game, the narrative is perfectly alright.

Who else HATES Dino? This dude is the Merchant O'aka of FFXV.

Can't stand Dino...even more than Cindy. I've gotten used to her (barely). He's just really bad VO and cheesy, cliched dialogue all rolled into one!

Good lord. I'm missing something.

The marlbaro fight. What's the catch? Just kill the little ones or...?

the story one? its just poorly designed,
it actually doesnt want you to flee, it wants you to move to a certain position which is indicated by a tiny red arrow eventually

The more i play the more of a mess it feels. Still enjoying it quite a lot, but its easy to see this game had a troubled upbringing.

Also, at which chapter
does the game's structure change from open to linear and is that a point of no return until I'm done with the game?[ I don't even mind, I'd just like to do an appropriate amoung of side quests before.

anyone spend a lot of time plAying that pinball game? Started a game on accident, but was doing pretty well, so I kept going, ended up stopping after 99 treasures, took over an hour

The 'empty ps3' game comment isn't that hyperbolic though. Sure the character models are (mostly) decent and some buildings/interiors are nicely modelled too, but compare outdoor scenery to something like GTA V running on PS3 and there's not a massive difference. GTA V on PS4 blows it clean out the water.

Quick question: are there any meatier side quests? Except for the behemoth and the mine all I've stumbled across are simple fetch/kill quests.

The game just has so many cool moments that it's hard to hate it. Today's session has had at least a dozen of these. It's winning me over.

On Chapter 8 so far and I'm enjoying it. I hated FFXIII with a passion so I'm so relieved I actually like this one.

The graphics are fantastic and whatever slow downs the PS4 is said to suffer hasn't damped my experience at all.

I will say this though: I hate the world. I just absolutely am not interested at all in how they designed it. It's not fun to explore or see imo. It looks... boring. I suppose what I'd have loved to have seen is just more fantasy stuff. Not just odd rock formations. I think this is why I love World of Warcraft so much even though it's like 10 years old (and graphics are just horrid by todays standards), they knew how to make an interesting world that was actually fun to explore.

I am eager to see what the rest of the game has in store, though.

By the way, the music is fantastic in this!

You are pretty much on a fast track to the ending after
chapter 9. There are still opportunities to return to the open world via a specific mechanic used at places you rest but for the most part you are proceeding to the end of the game after that point.

10 hours in, got to Lestallum. I'm loving this game. I don't even care about the simplicity in some of the sidequests because it's just fun running around doing whatever.

I understood that reference XD

Whatever could you mean? :p

Seriously, though, I really don't think anyone who's complaining about the scenery in this game has actually played it. These are some of the best views I've seen in gaming. The world is absolutely gorgeous.

So does ignis' plan for the deadeye fight not happen like it did in episode duscae? Superbly disappointed if so. I just did the fight and it was just a regular fight.

It's actually totally OK to not mind some fetch quests, even if it flies against the hive mind. They're there for a reason, and that's to get you to explore the world and look around for things. FFXIV, which is a great MMO and I've put a ton of time into, is about 80% fetch quest. I don't know of any RPGs without some of them. It's just the easy dis, so it gets repeated ad nauseum.

What is up with the Fucking perma damage you can take? I'm talking about where your permanent max HO is reduced until you go rest or camp. If I'm mid dungeon and performing flawlessly, I can suddenly get hit twice and have Noctis' HP reduced by 75% permanently. Suddenly I'm going into every fight for the rest of that dungeon crippled with like a max 200hp. Sucks. I know an elixir can fix that but I'm all out.

I know it's super early still, but it sucks this game is likely not going g to make a lot of game of the year discussions, due to being released so late.

What are some of the best kinds of food have you guys found? I seen some that increases EXP and some attack but I wanna focus more on Ignis cooking top food to boost stats and exp multiplier. I'm on chapter 3.
