Man this level 52 hunt vs a samurai guy, really show cases everything wrong with the encounter design par the obessions with mobs....
Fighting in a really small place arena, forced to play defensively because of the insane amount of quick time events, not that you could be aggressive anyway since the camera would just fuck up.
They so rarely allow the combat system to breath in this game.

Also SPOILERS from my guide on what Carbuncle actually does if anyone wants to know.

Carbuncle isn't a summon, all he does is grant a bonus during combat sometimes called Carbuncles blessing. It boosts vitality and strength for the duration of the battle. Edit: So he just shows up, hides and casts a blessing on you.

Weird, I've never seen him or the blessing in my game!
Isn't that a photo from Prompto? Carbuncle sometimes appears in them, even when visiting towns, just like
Gentiana
. It's pretty cool if he's casually hanging around like this but I have never actually seen him (in 65 hours of playtime now).
Yeah that was my assumption as well. But if that's what the guide says.. I don't know. Hope SE clears it up

Started playing yesterday, quite good so far. One question I have though - Hunts, is it better to do them right away as you reach their lvl or to come back later/post-game? I imaging they do not scale with your lvl, right? How are you guys doing it?

Wait wtf, I clearly was the first one, as the system recognized. We might have posted the same minute, but I posted before him. Whatever man.

No need to get mad. So many posted at the same time, I couldn't choose. So I came up with an idea for the first poster to name my favorite character get it.

Pro Tip: The items really aren't that great.

you can do hunt 10 level over with little problem with the right food. I'm at rank 3 at level 20 and do 28-29, they are enough challenging. Even level 14-19 was way harder then any other. I can't say later though... Level stat don't make that huge a difference.

I'm not mad. I just don't think your logic makes sense. Carry on.

I don't believe the levels scale, I'm not sure though, they are the level that is posted on the hunt all the time regardless of your level. For me, I've been doing them as they come up, and it's a good way to gain exp and Gil early on.

Also: I think it's best to do them when you're around their level just so you get the most benefit, because the pay out later on might be much less, you have progressed so far that 3000 Gil is nothing and the accessories rewards are useless

Father reported dead and home city in ruins? LET'S TAKE SELFIES!! Lol.

Yeah I mean it's very inconsistent writing.
One minute screaming in anguish, next minute - lets race Chocobos

It's nowhere near the compelling script of say FF6 or FF9. Even FFX had a decent script were it not for Tidus terrible delivery.

I agree as someone just watching it unfold.

It's like watching your best friend come in fourth place in the race and then say "ok, the real winner is whoever can guess my favorite movie".

Not saying they had any cards in the race but still wonkey.

That fight doesn't look fun :/

Well at least I know one of the hunts I will be avoiding.

uh, you can get pretty overpowered if you start doing all the (awful fetch-this/look in this big area for 2 hours garbage tier) sidequests appearing on the map and ignore the main one, especially since after you finish one five more appears. I'm level 33 and barely started chapter 3, I even got the
Ultima Weapon/Blade,
which seems 'pretty strong'.

Sorry, but it's really your own fault in this fight? Sword and daggers are more useful against him.

On this Carbuncle stuff, I played the Platinum demo, but deleted it. Do I have to load it back up to get him added?

Also, am I the only one just wasting a bunch of time running through the first area doing all the monster hunts and side quests I can find? I've put in like 4 hours and only now got to the water area..... This is what kills me with open world games; my ADD kicks in bad and I just want to explore...

Man Gladio is a hunky motherfucker. I have him with his casual (no jacket) outfit and I'm just mirin'. I think he'd be better looking without all those tattoos though.

I think the open world part should have happened way before the invasion, so it makes sense for the party to be that chill about everything.

Regis sends Noctis and friends o a random quest (formal visit to Lestallum/meet the Oracle/control what the Empire is doing near Titan) and tells him they will meet again the day after the peace treaty. > Noctis takes his time doing that task because he doesn't take it seriously > When he finally gets there the party notices that something is weird and comes back to Insomnia but it's already destroyed. > Luna is in Altissia, party travels there.

The only reason the invasion happens early in the game is so you have an excuse to not enter Insomnia. But it honestly would have worked better if the invasion happened after you complete everything in the Lucis kingdom, so you get attached to Lucis, the world itself and actually look forward to meeting Regis.

If you got a message when starting the main game after you played the demo carbuncle should be in your game if that message appeared. I think a platinum demo save file should be enough for that to trigger.

It should work in all ways because i'm at chapter 3 and i still got that summon according to the game.

I drove out of Lestallum for what must have been only 30 seconds. It was like 10 minutes pushing it back lol.

It was the same in FF1-6 and 9.

I'm old so that is the fanfare to me. I see the version in 7, 8, 10 etc as remix variations.
It's also the same as 1-6 and 9 in XII and XIV, and it just sounds better than the other versions.

For a second there it sounded like you forgot Hironobu Sakaguchi no longer works for Square.....
Say goodbye to 'better' story in place of 'that'll do' story

I do like your idea better though.

So... you can pretty much be OP if you spend time at that Justice pinball machine in the diner area where you go during the "Errand Prince" quest.

The rewards you can get:

20 chests: Garnet Bracelet - Strength +30
25 chests: Carbon Bangle - Max HP +150
30 chests: Amethyst Bracelet - Strength +35
35 chests: Titanium Bangle - Max HP +200
40 chests: Mega Phoenix
45 chests: Sapphire Bracelet - Strength +45
50 chests: Gold Bangle - Max HP +500
60 chests: Oracle Earring - Magic +200
70 chests: Ruby Bracelet - Strength +50
80 chests: Platinum Bangle - Max HP +700
90 chests: Emerald Bracelet - Strength +60
99 chests: Celestriad - Reduces Fire, Ice, and Lightning damage by 30%

Give everyone the ability to equip 2 accessories and acquire those stat boosts! Found a quick guide on GameFAQs for the pinball game:

I'm on this side quest in lestallum, and one of the quests says to photograph the
royal tomb
now when I get there it says
it's been stolen by robbers
any idea on where to find this?

I'm currently on chapter 4

Question about the Stats Tree. For the health, strength, etc. ones where it increases that stat by the number of levels gained, does it increase them only by the number of levels gained up to that point and then that's it, or does the increase apply to future levels as you gain them? So I guess I'm asking if it's ok to get them now, or wait until I'm about done leveling.

Hm. I cleaned out most of the sidequests in Chapter 3 but realized I haven't been using the EXP + food buffs before I complete them.

Hope this doesn't come and bite me when I end up doing post game stuff.

It's fine to get them. It continues to give you stats as you lvl so you won't be losing out if you get them early.
