Tragic victim of fan death
The added Kingsglaive scene after Noctis arrives in Galdin Quay is an absolute mess. I understand that this is one of the things they added in the Crown patch but this actually makes the game worse for it. It absolutely ruins the suspense on if Regis and Luna are dead or not. It is a terribly cut series of scenes that feel super disjointed with no context, since the treat is mentioned in only one line throughout the entirety of the game up to taht point. It's hot trash. Who the fuck thought this entire beginning sequence was good? Like... Lol?

Are DLC codes region locked?!

no, since i have Chinese dlc for my gundam game working on my NA account. HOWEVER DLC only works on the game from the same region regardless of the account. So no its not region locked in the traditional sense. Aka you cant use EU dlc on a NA game but you can play a EU dlc on a EU disk on a NA account. Its locked to the game of its region but available to play on all accounts (should it be the master account on the ps4/xbo whatever)

I'm paying attention plenty. Availability of information isn't the problem, lord knows the game throws heaps of exposition at you in every story mission - it's just that none of it has any contextual basis (unless you watched a movie beforehand) and it keeps tossing out series and game specific terms that mean absolutely nothing. They shoved a glossary in the tutorial, for goodness sakes.

The game even says it's for fans and first-timers, but I can't imagine someone completely green to the series knows or cares about anything going on in this game's world.

Let me say I haven't watched/read/played anything besides the Platinum demo and a few trailers before jumping in to the game.

I think the contextual basis is there and is fine, we see things unfold from the perspective of the four and we learn the details as they do. I've never once felt lost or lacking context for the events unfolding.

It isn't perfect, the story very obviously suffered from the various challenges the team faced, but I really do think people are overblowing just how bad the game is at setting context.

I'm really torn between doing many side quests or just a few of them. I don't want to be overleveled and ruin my main quest experience, but I really want to discover all these little dialogues between the bros.
And I hate doing side quests during postgame...

This might be the most "slice of life" game I've ever played. Even more than Animal Crossing lol. It makes no sense at all considering the story drama but whatever. I'm just driving around buying cds, fishing, taking pictures, camping and very occasionally fighting. What a weird game but I love it so far.

And the way they handle the day / night cycle is truly great. It's tough to explain why but the game does a great job of making you want to take a breather in the evening to reflect on your day and plan the next one. It's pretty damn brilliant.

What's best? Doing the sidequests and hunts etc in each before progressing the story or just going through the story and doing everything afterwards?

So far I've been doing EVERYTHING as stated in the guide in each area and then moving on. So far I've just started Chapter 3 and I've hit 13 hours.

I'm on this side quest in lestallum, and one of the quests says to photograph the
royal tomb
now when I get there it says
it's been stolen by robbers
any idea on where to find this?

I'm currently on chapter 4
Weird, I went and took photos, you take 2 pics, one from far and one close to the door, nothing inside.

Well if you want 100%, this is the best way.

If you want the fun way, just do the hunts and then proceed to the story mission.

Requoting myself again for the new page.

Is any of the Season Pass content available right now? I'm aware the Episode stuff and Expansion will be a ways off, but any of the other stuff?

Also, is anyone gonna grab it?

To be honest, the main quest isn't much about challenge anyway. All of the challenge you are going to find comes from exploring the world, monster hunts, sidequests and dungeons.

I wouldn't be too concerned about "overleveling" in terms of the story mode content. Also, if you want, you can just go through the story first and then come back to the world to do all the side content

Yeah.... I've been thinking about it alot. I feel like this isn't really a Final Fantasy game. It's a great game and I'm having alot of fun with it but it feels like a mix between Dragon Age and Xenoblade.

It just doesn't have that Final Fantasy feel anymore. Sure there are lots of references to the old games but part of me is starting to think 'true' FF games (X and before) are over.

Once again - I do enjoy this game alot.

Right now - chap 3

I have never played a Final Fantasy game. Well I did try way way back, but it was not my cup of tea then.
My tastes have changed some over the years, and also since I want to see what it is all about, I rented it from GameFly. It is on its way to me.

Any tips at all for someone who has never played?

I'm a little unsure of what to do, I'm still in Chapter 1 and
Dino, the Journalist is about to get aboard a ferry I think?
only thing is there are still plenty of hunts around but I seem quite underleveled for them. Most of them require Lvl. 15 & up and I'm only Lvl. 9 right now.

Should I go try to do a few of hunts or proceed with this next story beat? The game did mention I will not be able to return for a little bit.

I just wish fights were designed so that you could use your knowledge of weapon systems to enhance your experience of the fight, like even in training camp session against the gang you can have a ton of fun just air dashes around to dodge attacks, even if they cant be parried https://youtu.be/NDKzhyMtGNY.

You can dodge stuff using the spear jump back and then punish them extremely hard with the thrust , you can jump over the heads of enemies and do a spinny drill greatsword attack. But so many encounters force you to the ground, so that you can parry something something massive, maybe its the obsession with scale which cause this type of design.

Well if you want 100%, this is the best way.

If you want the fun way, just do the hunts and then proceed to the story mission.

Is there a resource for all the hunt pick up locations? Wish these were easier to keep track of, so much 1* trash i dont want to do.

This. As a veteran since FF II, imo FF as we knew it is dead. This is simply Final Fanservice. That said I keep playing the game lol.

You can't do them reliably. They happen when you and one of the bros attack at the same time, which you can't really control.

I'm not sure that this is true. It happens supper frequently for me when i do a blindside attack near my companions.

Yep, it's great. Could use more social link moments, though. So far, the only one I got was cooking with Ignis.

There's a free anime series called Brotherhood that mostly deals with the character's backgrond. It's on youtube. If you feel like it, watch it while you wait. It's only 5 ~10 minutes episodes, and it'll make you already care about the characters before even playing.

It's not necessary, but I think it's worth it.

without googling it or referring to any media outside of FFXV itself, explain to me what the empire wants

The Emporer mentioned harnessing some kind of power which is all we really need to know at the start. There's a crystal that the king uses to protect his nation? But it drains him while he uses it so he is vulnerable to attack?

The Nilf use this to their advantage and steal it.

Evil guys break treaty to make power play.

It's not complex, and it's not important for it to be.

Of course, it would be best if it is eventually uncovered specifically why they are doing what they're doing or the precise details of their plot, but like most FF games we have an antagonist who wants to harness a great power for their own benefit.

I'll add I'm only at chapter 4, but for now I feel very comfortable with the context of what s happening.
I think the open world part should have happened way before the invasion, so it makes sense for the party to be that chill about everything.

Regis sends Noctis and friends o a random quest (formal visit to Lestallum/meet the Oracle/control what the Empire is doing near Titan) and tells him they will meet again the day after the peace treaty. > Noctis takes his time doing that task because he doesn't take it seriously > When he finally gets there the party notices that something is weird and comes back to Insomnia but it's already destroyed. > Luna is in Altissia, party travels there.

The only reason the invasion happens early in the game is so you have an excuse to not enter Insomnia. But it honestly would have worked better if the invasion happened after you complete everything in the Lucis kingdom, so you get attached to Lucis, the world itself and actually look forward to meeting Regis.

I've said this numerous times.

I think they should have done this:

Part one - open world.

Noctis and friends go on some kind of relaxed diplomatic mission to somewhere very far away. They make it into a road trip and leave early so they can spend time together before Noctis has to complete his duties officially.

The entire first half of the game is them exploring the world casually making their way to their destination.

En route they become caught up in some kind of plot that seems random But eventually ties in to:

The second part of the game - linear story focused.

The stack happens, the king is killed. Now Noctis and friends meat fight their way back to his kingdom and reclaim the throne.

End game

Open world exploration and post game dungeons/encounters.

-

This way the first part of the game could be as it is now, and the carefree nature of it wouldn't go against the urgency of the main events.

Also, it would make the events feel much more impactful after having spent a large amount of time getting to know the group in relative peace. It would make the attack and death of the king have far more weight.

Yeah, night in the "badlands" is not fun at lower levels. I was doing couple night hunts in Ch1, and it was mad dashing through to the the objective and going "Nope" to Iron Giants and company on the way. If not for unlimited stamina run trick would have been mincemeat.

Separately one easy way to grind a bit extra AP is to unlock nodes for getting AP during camping, driving and favorite food prep. I can get ~9-10 AP in about 5-6 min by driving between two campsites, camping and prepping the skewers (common ingridients, just need to fight bunch of giraffes).

If you got a message when starting the main game after you played the demo carbuncle should be in your game if that message appeared. I think a platinum demo save file should be enough for that to trigger.

It should work in all ways because i'm at chapter 3 and i still got that summon according to the game.

hmm..... I must have deleted the save file.... Is there any way to download the demo from my library and save a file again? Would that prompt the message, or would I have to start all over again?

I got the message at the start but I haven't seen him once in game. I read that it was easy mode only, not sure if this has been confirmed.

I get what you mean but I feel right at home.
My favorites are 6 and 9 like you (I appreciate X but don't love it) but I would put 12 and 14 right next to them. And I probably spent half of my time with 14 fishing. So when I discovered that Noctis's skill was fishing, I laughed out loud.

The FF games have very little in common with each other imo (Chocobos and Cid are just cosmetic), the only thing that really ties them together for me is their ambition. So I feel like 15, despite its shortcomings, is a worthy successor.

Listen the story in the game is awful, there's really no need to think about certain elements or analyze it. There's a very precise moment in Chapter 9 where you can tell how much of a shitshow the script is.

It's only a shade more 'complete' than MGSV.

the empire is bad
the king is dead
Noctis has to marry Luna for some reason
Noctis has to get these weapons from tombs for some reason
Noctis has to get these summons for some reason
Prompto wants a girlfirend
Anything beyond that is gibberish that I don't remember

WARNING spoilers for fetch quests

It feels like if FF7 started outside of Midgar and then they cut out every single character arc in the game along with some other stuff.

You know what the beginning of FFXV could've used instead of the shitty chapter 0? the first few minutes of Kingsglaive where Luna explains wtf is going on.

I mean, it is disjointed but it is clearly mentioned why Noct is gathering the weapons and why the arranged marriage is happening. All in the main quest line. It's hard to miss.

Yes just playing the demo again should be good enough then.

You can't really miss the message. When you launch the main game a blue message appears that says thanks for playing the platinum demo, and that Carbuncle or whatever you named him joins your game as a summon.

A few pages back a gaffer posted a picture of him spawning in normal mode i'm going to try the same now.

Played a fair amount yesterday. A bit over 8 hours in, and just early in Chapter 2--a bit past the first dungeon--as I've been taking my time with sidequests and hunts. I like being overpowered in RPGs. :D

I'm still digging it a lot. I wish the open world was a little less barren though, and that there was less banter since they just say the same things over and over.

Dude, why? I'm still in chapter 1.

So... you can pretty much be OP if you spend time at that Justice pinball machine in the diner area where you go during the "Errand Prince" quest.

The rewards you can get:

20 chests: Garnet Bracelet - Strength +30
25 chests: Carbon Bangle - Max HP +150
30 chests: Amethyst Bracelet - Strength +35
35 chests: Titanium Bangle - Max HP +200
40 chests: Mega Phoenix
45 chests: Sapphire Bracelet - Strength +45
50 chests: Gold Bangle - Max HP +500
60 chests: Oracle Earring - Magic +200
70 chests: Ruby Bracelet - Strength +50
80 chests: Platinum Bangle - Max HP +700
90 chests: Emerald Bracelet - Strength +60
99 chests: Celestriad - Reduces Fire, Ice, and Lightning damage by 30%

Give everyone the ability to equip 2 accessories and acquire those stat boosts! Found a quick guide on GameFAQs for the pinball game:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/932981-final-fantasy-xv/74646222
I think you deserve to be OP after playing that horrible and dreadfully boring mini-game for hours.
