It feels like if FF7 started outside of Midgar and then they cut out every single character arc in the game along with some other stuff.
Prompto, of all people, is the only one who feels like he had a character arc and development. 25% is not a passing grade.

This is not a finished script. The amount of important things happening offscreen is flat out embarassing.

I'm struggling to see how any of what I posted was a spoiler, I'm describing fetch quests as far as I can tell, but tagged I guess?

This was all stuff in the demo too wasn't it?

I think the angle that the story is going for is that the game is supposed to make you feel like you don't have all the info and completely out of the loop just like Noctis. The problem is that it doesn't work because you have no emotional connection to these characters. You have no emotional connection to the city or its citizens. You have no connection to the king. Literally there is no foundation. Not only that but the information is spoonfed to you in a mediocre scene that doesn't even explain the full context of the conflict or the state of the world minus the shitty Lore prologue in the beginning of the game that is OPTIONAL. They did not think this out. What might've happened is that the staff became so engrained in the story of the game that they probably didn't think how a newcomer would react to these situations. They just assumed that we knew the stuff or weren't being cognizant.

Which really baffles me considering they basically rewrote Nojima and Nomura's script almost completely.

I just think you should spoiler tag literally anything related to what you do in the story.

I went into this FF blind - knowing nothing of the supposed story.

I've since learnt the ending, a plot point halfway through involving two seperate characters and now thanks to you SPOILER
The fact that you have to go around hunting summons

All since being in a spoiler free OT

For shame

I'm a little unsure of what to do, I'm still in Chapter 1 and
Dino, the Journalist is about to get aboard a ferry I think?
only thing is there are still plenty of hunts around but I seem quite underleveled for them. Most of them require Lvl. 15 & up and I'm only Lvl. 9 right now.

Should I go try to do a few of hunts or proceed with this next story beat? The game did mention I will not be able to return for a little bit.

Anything guys?

Don't be ignorant.

There are people in this thread who haven't played a single FF game. There are people in this thread that haven't even started with it. There are people like RPGCrazied that are still in Chapter 1.

I get that you are trying to make fun of the plot but openly talking about it is spoilers, doesn't matter how shitty it sounds or how it is simply 'fetch quest' which are the staple of every FF, not something unique to FFXV.

You got a summon and had the fancy weapons in the demo.
The summon was never story related or explained in the demo. The weapons were randomly scattered around the demo map.

Seems like you completely missed the point.

It's probably the most disjointed, weakest opening in the entire series. In my opinion, of course.

I do agree. Apart from 13 which I despised entirely I can't think of a single opening that had such strange pacing before.

Calm and friendly
Full throttle WTF emotions
Calm and friendly

All tied in with banter.

Once again I do enjoy it but.... yeah I agree

5.5 hours in and things I'm enjoying
Promtpo's picture taking. Iris and
The little walk around quest with her
. Dungeon design

things I hate: everything else

I'm struggling to keep playing this. I had more fun with combat in star ocean 5 ffs.

I don't know how that's not everyone's opinion who's played FFs before.

Normally in FF they typically start off you doing random stuff then drop a conflict on you and actually explain what the conflict is and wtf is going on. This game just has a conflict and doesn't explain shit.

It feels like they rewrote some stuff and that caused a cascading effect leading to the mess that it currently is. Either that or they only had so much assets and they couldn't do the story like Nomura had imagined and so went the Uncharted 3 route of just trying to write the story to match the set pieces.

I mean why am I getting more cutscenes of a certain character after chapter nine than before, when it would have mattered? It's just baffling.

Yeah I'm really not getting your point, agree to disagree.

Summon? On the Japanese demo?

No, why would I be talking about the Japanese demo? The first one.

Well, bout 7 hrs in and just got to Galdin Quay. Enjoying my time so far. Flow of battles is starting to click better. I think what tripped me up initially is the unique blend of third person action at play here. There's a very small part of Dark Soulsish animation priority at play, where you can't just hit the defend button and expect to be fine if you're half way through a big javelin or greatsword attack. Also, you start looking for tells for specific enemies like Dark Souls too (let me be clear, I'm not directly comparing Dark Souls, there are a million reasons they're different, too) Then there's the strategic piece of constantly trying to manage the techniques and dodging behind for blindsides.

I really like it overall, it just wasn't a blend I was expecting, which made initially adapting a bit hard, and I totally get all the people saying "chaotic." Totally valid.

Where's Falk at?? My god, the music. It really, really is fantastic. Very coincidental Kagari's OT title and the various exploring scores that play with flute (I think?) and immediately reminds me of the lord of the rings adventuring music. Then, at night, there's some very powerful piano based scores that play when you're around bombs and Iron Giants.

Man oh man, this easily stands up with some of Uematsu's best. Easily.

And all the little fan service bits that are FF through and through, I absolutely love. From the chocobo fishing lure you start with, to Prompto singing Victory Fanfare after you win battles.

Expectations are in check for the remaining plot (still in Ch 1) but I am really, really, really enjoying this game. Not perfect, but GG Tabata and team. You did it. You really did.

Noooooooooo my game just crashed for the first time in the worst possible place.

Chapter 13:
I'd just beaten Ravus after using up all my recovery items and having Noct be the only one still alive. Then it makes you escape from that crazy fight and touch the crystal (which I managed to do with a shred of HP left), my game crashed at the end of that cutscene though and for some reason there's no freaking autosave from after the Ravus fight, so I used Umbra and I'm going to just play about in the open world for a while now.

I finished the main game this morning, I had an absolute blast and I haven't really felt touched by any Final Fantasy since pre-XI, the closest before XV were moments in XIV, I can safely say this and XIV are my absolute favorite games of this generation XIV for the online aspects and great storytelling and this for the special moments it had and ambitions.

XV clearly had too big of a vision and too little dev time to flesh out the story and fully realize it,

I hope for another shot at Versus someday (or a concept similar to it), but that's just a wishful thinking and I'm overall happy with what we got, It certainly has some flaws huge ones in the storytelling department but It still got to me and I enjoyed the characters, world, the journey and last few chapters/ending and the soundtrack is one of my favorites from Yoko.

Ultimately I'd say it was worth the wait. It shall now rest among my top 5 FFs ever.

Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying it and having a good time!

The Emporer mentioned harnessing some kind of power which is all we really need to know at the start. There's a crystal that the king uses to protect his nation? But it drains him while he uses it so he is vulnerable to attack?

The Nilf use this to their advantage and steal it.

Evil guys break treaty to make power play.

It's not complex, and it's not important for it to be.

Of course, it would be best if it is eventually uncovered specifically why they are doing what they're doing or the precise details of their plot, but like most FF games we have an antagonist who wants to harness a great power for their own benefit.

I'll add I'm only at chapter 4, but for now I feel very comfortable with the context of what s happening.

I've said this numerous times.

I think they should have done this:

Part one - open world.

Noctis and friends go on some kind of relaxed diplomatic mission to somewhere very far away. They make it into a road trip and leave early so they can spend time together before Noctis has to complete his duties officially.

The entire first half of the game is them exploring the world casually making their way to their destination.

En route they become caught up in some kind of plot that seems random But eventually ties in to:

The second part of the game - linear story focused.

The stack happens, the king is killed. Now Noctis and friends meat fight their way back to his kingdom and reclaim the throne.

End game

Open world exploration and post game dungeons/encounters.

-

This way the first part of the game could be as it is now, and the carefree nature of it wouldn't go against the urgency of the main events.

Also, it would make the events feel much more impactful after having spent a large amount of time getting to know the group in relative peace. It would make the attack and death of the king have far more weight.
I like this a lot.

Even though it's far from perfect I do completely agree its top 5.

For me infact it's higher.

6 - 9 - X - XV for me in that order. So far anyway. I'm hoping the story does evoke emotions because it could even bump up the list haha. It's definitely on par with my favourites.

Wow. I'm so sorry. That fight is awful as it is... can't imagine having to redo it.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
30 hours, chapter 3. Yup.

this might sound crazy but how about you just play the game instead of reading every single page of this thread while making a new post every 30 seconds.
maybe that way you can enjoy your blind run more. just maybe though

13 is such an awful chapter on almost every level. I'll write more about that one nightmare of a chapter later. It's like the developers took out all of their strengths and showed just how bad the game could be.

I enjoy Brotherhood, and seeing their backgrounds. I was surprised to see Prompto in that shape as a kid but I liked it. I have really been enjoying both Kingsglaive and Brotherhood.

I'm just surprised (Kingsglaive character) that
General Gauca apparently died in the movie. I'm pretty sure I saw him in game media.

Nice Impressions!

While I couldn't finish XIV (I even tried 3 months sub), but this one easily is my top 5 FF, as I have said before.

It is easy to get fixated to the flaws, as there are many, but the game as a whole does a lot more that it is easy to overlook them. Of course, if some people can't enjoy the characters or the combat, they won't get much enjoyment out of it. But in my case, I absolutely did.

Oh each chapter is based on the FF game it shares a number with?

I mean, it is disjointed but it is clearly mentioned why Noct is gathering the weapons and why the arranged marriage is happening. All in the main quest line. It's hard to miss.

What about the crystal? Or the summons? I don't think those were really explained at all beyond "we need to protect this and get these"

Wow. I'm so sorry. That fight is awful as it is... can't imagine having to redo it.

It has potential to be one of the better fights in the game, there is a mixture of moves to dodge with warping, hold guard and parrying...... but unless i'm missing something,
the white move just wipes your entire party?

Question about the Cooking in the game

Do eating stuff at diners and cooking at camp sites increase my HP etc for my character or just refills the current HP bar?
