What about the crystal? Or the summons? I don't think those were really explained at all beyond "we need to protect this and get these"
I can't talk about crystals but the summons are fully explained in the lore. It is the very first book in the Galdin Quay and there is more information across the various Cosmologist books scattered throughout the outposts/cities.

I feel like chapter 13 started out fine but it really overstays its welcome in the worst way possible.
Have to agree here.

The keycard shit should have stopped at level 2-3. Instead it goes all the way to 6

Fifteen hours in and I still haven't visited Galdin Quay, too OCD, must find everything.
I'm having a good time.

Maybe Im missing something but the swords you get from the tombs all drain your health....are people using these weapons? Is there something I need to do to stop the drain?

Asking again since this thread is moving so damn fast.

Quick question - sometimes all sidemissions are greyed out and I can´t control the car manually - why?

Anyone else drastically lower the SFX in the sound mix so the music (especially in the car) would be easier to listen to? Damn engine noises.

Also I'm having real trouble finding any chance to make camp to improve the cooking skill. It's easier just to fast travel to a town, buy food there and get bonus exp. Feels like I have to go out of my way to cook.

I haven't had this problem at all. I'm always exploring the wilderness running or riding my chocoboo a large amount of the time. I typically camp anytime I'm out hunting just hit chapter 4 and cooking skill is 7 or 8.

Question about the Cooking in the game

Do eating stuff at diners and cooking at camp sites increase my HP etc for my character or just refills the current HP bar?

Temp, yes.
And if,
you cook something that you or your other companions love. It be a bonus for them

Each dish will tell you what effect it will have.

A lot of them increase HP for your characters. This lasts until the food effect wears off, as indicated by the bar it displays on the UI.

this might sound crazy but how about you just play the game instead of reading every single page of this thread while making a new post every 30 seconds.
maybe that way you can enjoy your blind run more. just maybe though

I'm putting the game on hold while I wait for my 4k TV to turn up. Discussing my appreciation of the game itself with like minded individuals.

Cheers for the snark though

Putting details on one of your main story objectives in hidden 'lore' is just bad storytelling. That shit should be for expanding and developing the story beyond what is presented, not hiding entire plot points.

To take over the kingdom, obtain the crystal and obtain the king's ring. I didn't watch the anime or Kingsglaive and they game does a fine job of explaining the empire's motivation.

Admittedly I might have picked a poor question to articulate my issues with the storytelling there, since, yeah, it is fairly clear that they want the macguffins. Still, I'm in chapter 6 and I've still only seen two incredibly short scene with the actual imperial characters - and one of them seems to run completely counter to the stated goals above
i.e all the stuff with the empire/Ardyn taking the Regalia... then Ardyn letting them leave with the Regalia? Which I'm assuming is due to Ardyn likely being some kind of puppetmaster and needing Noctis to gain access to Leviathan like he did with Titan - but if that's the case, why let the imperials stand in Noctis's way at all?

It's not the surface level action being taken that confuses me, it's the "why" of everything, and how wobbly it all seems in the game world as presented. Like, no one really seems to care about the empire or what happened in Insomnia - everyone in the world seems pretty cheerful and oblivious to the whole thing. I won't even get into what a bizarre gambit the whole peace treaty thing is given that they didn't ever even sign it in the first place. Why bother with the pretense?

Part of the problem is that we're never properly introduced to the major players in the actual game. We don't see the emperor until several hours in. We only see Insomnia for the briefest moment, and we only see our gang and not any of Noctis's subjects. All that stuff is super removed from the game. It's hard to care.

Trying not to get many, if any, outright spoilers, so I don't want to scroll through the thread. If I am trying to platinum the game, is there a point of no return for stuff or is there opportunity to finish things up? I realize the vague answer to this is a bit of a spoiler, but one I'm willing to know. If here is a point of no return, is the game explicit about it? PM me, post it in here as a reply...I'm just weirdly paralyzed to continue playing until I know. Thanks.

Basically you just equip them for the really good stat boosts some of them have, but as for actually using them, later on when you have high enough health, the drain is negligible (then again, at that point, regular weapons are just as strong, so there still doesn't seem to be crazy reason to use them)

Feels like the most efficient way to clear out side quests and build up EXP it to use fast travel and stay at motels though?

Anything guys?
What I did was drive around and collect chests which I got locations from the tips NPCs. They actually also update with new cheats for a while. Usually there are some encounters along the way, there are some additional quests around for rescuing hunters with potions or fixing broken down cars.

Then you should be able to have decent equipment and cash enough to put together some decent spells (use Sheep Milk as Catalyst to get Tier 2 spells if you spend the AP to get extra spell power when crafting).

Use good attack boost food, decent motel buffs for XP, get to lvl 10 and then you should be able to take them.

It is right there in the very first outpost. The bros even talk about the book being there and urge to check it out. It is not the devs problem if you miss such obvious plot points. Not everything related to the plot needs to be spoon fed.

It has potential to be one of the better fights in the game, there is a mixture of moves to dodge with warping, hold guard and parrying...... but unless i'm missing something,
the white move just wipes your entire party?
That move never wiped out my party since I was around level 42. I assume you had a lower level

Damn the
Ice Cavern
dungeon in Chapter 3 is really confusing and easy to get lost in.
How do I get past the dead end towards the end of the dungeon
?

First hour mark: Whew almost done

Second hour mark: Why am I not done with this?

Third hour mark: JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

For both chapters 9 and 13 my reactions kinda went like

Start of chapter: "hey this isn't as bad as gaf sad"
End of chapter " why am i playing this game"

The ign review is spot on for this game, "why must i choose between having fun and progressing the main story".

I'm actually stoked to get to chapter 13 and see what all the fuss is about. Long chapters sound like something right up my street. Chap 1 and 2 could be completed very very quickly if you concentrated only on them.

EDIT - MY 4K TV ARRIVED!!! I CAN PLAY AGAIN!!!!!

If people that hated Chapter 13 hated FFXIII I will love Chapter 13

Can't wait!

Also if Chapter 13 was Tabata's way of reflecting on many fans experience of FFXIII then FFXV's game design just became meta...you all got played :p

I hardly ever stay at hotels and I'm level 30 on chapter 4. I've done a ton of sidequest though, I actively try to avoid hotels unless I have a huge amount of XP saved, which rarely happens because I camp a bunch and earn 3AP bonus every time I do it. I mostly just enjoy Ignis cooking all meals and learning new powerful recipes.

On my way to a dog tag sidequest,I had a bunch of Girafe looking creatures appear and the game told me to destroy the appendage and a meter with a countdown timer appeared...what the hell was I supose to do there...? I killed the group, still got the exp and all but that timer ran out before I could break appendage I guess...?

I'm a little unsure of what to do, I'm still in Chapter 1 and
Dino, the Journalist is about to get aboard a ferry I think?
only thing is there are still plenty of hunts around but I seem quite underleveled for them. Most of them require Lvl. 15 & up and I'm only Lvl. 9 right now.

Should I go try to do a few of hunts or proceed with this next story beat? The game did mention I will not be able to return for a little bit.

The game always tells you you won't be able to return for a while, and then you return almost immediately. The only time to be concerned about not getting back for a while is after chapter
8......
, but even then, you have opportunities to get back.

Also seriously this game's mission-specific mechanics are a mess - minor chapter 5 spoiler here but
"Noctis can kill enemies in one hit with warp strike just for this part" is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in an RPG. They so desperately wanted to put that style of mission in the game but couldn't think of a way to justify it besides "well one thing works differently now"

I do both. Always hit Motels for EXP boost, but then I will do a few campground trips (drive between campgrounds) just because to grind a bit of AP and get skills up. I almost never use fast travel though. I like chilling in the car listening to the music and getting free AP.

We just disagree on how it should be presented, then. I don't think things like that should be missable at all, even if it's my fault.

But I agree not everything needs to be in a cutscene.

Grats, If it does HDR you are in for a real treat.

I restarted about 6 hours in. Got to the same point and did more in a quarter of the time it took previously. Really didn't like my previous Ascension distribution. I like it so far.

VHrlW52.png

Works great on the Vita! Played this way for a couple hours. I'll be getting a new grip soon.

94 hours in, and only finally advanced past chapter 8... . did everything you can possibly do i think. ! lvl 83.. .lvl 10 for fishing, photos, hiking, and cooking. 10 armingers. finally got those damn rainbow frogs, and 13 maps scraps (have 14, but last one seems inaccessible in the current chapter im in). hunt rank lvl 7 with no more hunts possibly to do until i hit 8, which i assume will be after the linear part. and caught that damn devil fish for what i assume is the last fishing quest.
noctigar lol
and upgraded

also found most of the edgar ff6 weapons, auto-crossbow, chainsaw, drill, noiseblaster, bioblaster, and gravity well(this is one not in ff6 lol) and upgraded all but one of them. also found a sniper rifle for noctis lol very interesting weapon, good for specifically targeting parts to break. also upgraded all the weapons from the carrot trader

now i can finally enjoy the main quest.. .

I'm pretty sure it's a frontal attack on the ground level because I managed to avoid it a few times. Good luck avoiding getting everyone but Noctis killed when you can't even move your party members around, though.

Grats, If it does HDR you are in for a real treat.

I started the game with my standard 1080p TV when I received the game on Saturday
My 4k tv was supposed to arrive....

Played 24 hours of it that weekend - no TV

Put game on hold until TV arrived... a hard few days

It's arrived today. Sony Bravia 49" KD49XD8077 which I believe is the X800D in America.
4K HDR....

I can't wait to see what it looks like

Chapter 13 was a slog, but I didn't hate it. I enjoyed that it shook up the gameplay a bit.

Once you get the Sword of the King or whatever, it becomes a lot more fun as you can annihilate every enemy really quickly.

I think the biggest shock is the length of it, especially since chapters 8-12 seem to be really, really short.

Does anyone have a list of all of the available fish at the fishing locations?

Why are there so many in the game? :(
