94 hours in, and only finally advanced past chapter 8... . did everything you can possibly do i think. ! lvl 83.. .lvl 10 for fishing, photos, hiking, and cooking. 10 armingers. finally got those damn rainbow frogs, and 13 maps scraps (have 14, but last one seems inaccessible in the current chapter im in). hunt rank lvl 7 with no more hunts possibly to do until i hit 8, which i assume will be after the linear part. and caught that damn devil fish for what i assume is the last fishing quest.
noctigar lol

also found most of the edgar ff6 weapons, auto-crossbow, chainsaw, drill, noiseblaster, bioblaster, and gravity well(this is one not in ff6 lol) and upgraded all but one of them. also found a sniper rifle for noctis lol very interesting weapon, good for specifically targeting parts to break

now i can finally enjoy the main quest.. .

Also seriously this game's mission-specific mechanics are a mess - minor chapter 5 spoiler here but
"Noctis can kill enemies in one hit with warp strike just for this part" is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in an RPG. They so desperately wanted to put that style of mission in the game but couldn't think of a way to justify it besides "well one thing works differently now"

And that stealth mechanic you just learned? All for naught you have to fight the whole base anyway. Great stuff.

Maybe Im missing something but the swords you get from the tombs all drain your health....are people using these weapons? Is there something I need to do to stop the drain?
I use the sometimes, even with the hp drain they're pretty OP. I still only have 3 though.
Btw to who has finished the game, is there a spear one?

Man, after watching the Bombcast I noticed they seem to be missing the finer points to the combat system.

They all claim that all you do is just hold circle. Wish I could tell them that you can perform different attacks by tilting the control stick and delaying the timing by tapping circle. For instance, with the greatsword mid-combo if you tilt back and circle and hold it you do a devastating charge attack. I feel like this'll get lost on a lot of people since as far as I know, it's never really brought up in-game.

Yes!

I think it has been stated before but why are the Nifilheim drop ships so quiet you can barely hear them. If my party did not say "Hey incoming Nif's etc." I would sometimes never notice them coming.

A random side quests made me enter into a really nice little dungeon. Why wasn't this in the main campaign? (Well I assume it won't be).

Sorry if this was asked before, Does anyone know how long it takes CID to upgrade weapons? Its been telling me to wait and do quests and hunts and I've been doing them for the past few hours of gameplay and still haven't received any new weapons when talking to him.

First hour mark: Whew almost done

Second hour mark: Why am I not done with this?

Third hour mark: JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
It didn't take me that long (probably around 2 hours) but I went through the same reactions. I didn't hate chapter 13. I was dreading it with the reports of
tedious stealth sections
and it ended up being a complete non-issue for me. The atmosphere was pretty cool. The beginning was strong. It just went on, and on, and on, and on...

Edit: I liked the gameplay idea of
taking everything from you and making you play as Noctis at his lowest, most desperate,
it matched the mood of the entire second half and made you feel really bad. I don't know whether that was intentional or not but it worked for me. It should have ended a lot sooner though. I thought it was a very badly-executed chapter but the idea was brilliant.

When I played it I also felt like it suffered from the Tabata PSP game syndrome of "let's make everything a series of samey square rooms and corridors".

I could have done without the constant
jump scares
too,
I didn't pay for a horror game
.

Goodness, I'm 4 hours in and I haven't even gotten on the boat.

I don't want to leave any stones unturned before I go.

Can someone give me a small spoiler about how long (hours wise) it will take before I'm back in this area to finish up these sidequests?

yep!
it's warp strike is a dragoon jump! sooo goood!!!!
when you get good enough hp, they become great weapons to use, but i still use standard weapons since going for link strikes is key to killing mobs fast and safely.

You actually do not get on the boat since the invasion of Insomnia happens so you move on to another mission. So I would not worry about moving on.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I finished the game. Some thoughts on a specific chapter namely
Chapter 13

WTF at this chapter. It completely became an MGS/RE kind of game and it was pretty long compared to chapter 11-12. It was terrible, but not enough to ruin the experience.

I'll head over to the spoiler thread on my thoughts on the ending but I though (major spoiler warning)
the marriage of Noctis and Luna was sweet, plus the FF theme song, plus the revised logo. ;_; it's in my top 5 endings now, including top 5 FFs.

It feels like they rewrote some stuff and that caused a cascading effect leading to the mess that it currently is. Either that or they only had so much assets and they couldn't do the story like Nomura had imagined and so went the Uncharted 3 route of just trying to write the story to match the set pieces.

I mean why am I getting more cutscenes of a certain character after chapter nine than before, when it would have mattered? It's just baffling.

damn. I'm hoping for a directors cut. i hope we get some insight on how versus XIII was supposed to play out.

Yeah, the hold circle is BS for majority of the bigger fights. Direction holding, letting circle go or not, position of the attack, judicial warp striking, link attacks, block and party and counter attack setups, team techniques, magic, weapon switching on the fly, and so on. Combat system gets quite complex if one wants it too and it's a huge must if you want to tackle higher level mobs.

I personally love the shit out of combat (Wait Mode is a must) and I expected to hate it. I compare it favorably with better Tales Of entrees. Oh, one thing you can do for positioning. Warp to a point that you want your team to go and then use Ignis' Regroup. It works very well especially if swarmed.

Edit: This works really well when you want to do a major AoE magic attack. The command also has iframes and heals.

Strange question: I started FFXV just to see the title screen (I don't have time to play ATM) and when I switched to HDR (via a PS4Pro), the title screen (the moon, the logo, the clouds) looks clearer.

Is this HDR at work or my TV's brightness has gone up a notch? Anyone tried comparing?

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Yeah.... I've been thinking about it alot. I feel like this isn't really a Final Fantasy game. It's a great game and I'm having alot of fun with it but it feels like a mix between Dragon Age and Xenoblade.

It just doesn't have that Final Fantasy feel anymore. Sure there are lots of references to the old games but part of me is starting to think 'true' FF games (X and before) are over.

Once again - I do enjoy this game alot.

Right now - chap 3

6 is the best
9 is my favourite
Toss up between X and XV for runner up
It definitely feels like it was designed to be a spinoff. The setting, gameplay, character design, music, and script are all way different than usual, as if they made a completely unique IP and shoved Final Fantasy elements in there. The English script in particular has a lot of swearing in it. Reminds me of VII's localization back in the day a bit, but still very different.

I think rebranding this FFXV was a less than ideal move. That is a very very minor complaint, though, as the game is fantastic.

I'm not asking anyone to spoil anything but I found a hole (cave)in a mountain near Cid's shop but I can't enter it. Is this something that becomes accessible later? I'm just on chapter 2 right now. Forgot the name of the mountain area.

I noticed the HDR settings on my x800d also turn brightness settings up to max.

Yay, I love using spears, I'm always using mine unless the enemy is resistant to it. Can't wait to get my hands on that.

so regarding a picture in chapter.....1-2

They totally need to make a spinoff of this game with regis and co. Regis with Cid would be absolutely awesome!!!!!

Yeah as I say I do very much enjoy it too, it just doesn't feel like a traditional FF game. The kind that really made the series the legend it is today.

I love the music though - I think they did a good job there.

Guys, what am i allowed to sell at the shops without worrying and loosing something tied later in the gm?

I'm putting the game on hold while I wait for my 4k TV to turn up. Discussing my appreciation of the game itself with like minded individuals.

Cheers for the snark though
I mean, that's fine and all, but it's a bit disingenuous to pretend it's everyone else's fault for being spoiled on anything when you're the one who keeps checking the thread constantly even though you want to play the game completely blind.

This could be a DLC for all we know.

I do have one question though:

wtf happened to Iedolas
Story spoilers

Kaz, we are already the Daemon

Ideolas and the whole Niflheim empire was basically transformed in Daemons thanks to their bizarre experiments gone wrong. They were using the crystal powers to make humans into Daemons and it is later confirmed that all the so called 'Daemons' are actually Humans.

A lot (most) act as catalysts in casting. You can check it out during crafting screen for effect. I sold one beetle shell for 800 Gil and then discovered that shit allows quad freaking casting!!!!

Spoiler tags not being used correctly is hardly my fault haha

Don't worry yourself bud, my TV turned up today. I can once again enjoy the playment.

yes. i feel the combat is more tactical than people give it credit for. i mentioned before, i play this like monster hunter. the risk/reward, and prioritizing positioning. i think people being frustrated at mobs, need to see and use the resources they have available. using techs for the iframes . and going for blind/link strikes since they give you iframes as well when they activate. i always strive to get A+ for every category.

The Niff ship drop rate is very low in my playthrough...they rarely spawn directly above me and they seldom bother me during hunts and sidequests...I actually rejoice that the battle will go on longer

The dungeon just outside
Crown City
is legit what the hell. The creature before the main one is soooooo much harder it's a joke.

I think this refers to genetically modified humans. Prompto was one of them.
