What does dualcast etc mean for spells? Because I thought it may mean I can spam the spell twice/etc before recharging but nope.

The Niff ship drop rate is very low in my playthrough...they rarely spawn directly above me and they seldom bother me during hunts and sidequests...I actually rejoice that the battle will go on longer
Same here, they're very easy to avoid if I don't want to fight.

Also one more question (major spoilers again):

Can anyone explain to me what MTs are again and how's it related to Prompto?

MTs are megitek troops. The humanoid robots that drop out of the ships and attack you. I don't know how they relate specifically to Prompto at all, though.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Story

I think this refers to genetically modified humans. Prompto was one of them.

Use a food buff that prevents toad status and you will do fine.

Interesting
but there's barely any backstory for it. Don't tell me... DLC. lol

Genetically modified humans. Prompto is one too... somehow, even though there's no buildup to this beforehand!

I interpreted MT's as a clever pun. Earlier in the game when the magitek troopers (MT's) show up, the party refer to them as empties (AKA they are just robots, no soul). The twist is suppose to be "you've been killing people all along", since ardyn explains the troopers are actually people involved in an experiment, which later lead to creating demons. Prompto is just from niflheim, for erm reasons.

The game is like "oh we intentionally made the story incomplete so you guys can buy the DLC!"

God I wish companies stopped doing that.

It's still a great game though. I was pulled into the world.

@Ultros

Do you rank it above/below FFXII/XIII?

XV > XIII > XII

XV is the most FF amongst XIII and XII.

If I'd rank my series:

X > VII >= IX > XV > IV >= VI > XIII > V > XII > III > I > II

so regarding a picture in chapter.....1-2

They totally need to make a spinoff of this game with regis and co. Regis with Cid would be absolutely awesome!!!!!

This was especially blatant with this game, unfortunately.

It feels less like that to me and more like

Sorry to come into a thread where everyone's pretty positive with such a negative attitude, but I'm trying to enjoy this game and so far I'm failing to get into it.

I'm currently up to chapter 3. I've just finished
hunting Deadeye and am about to make my way to Lestallum
with around 6 hours on the game clock. I'm hoping someone who is a bit further in the game can assuage my annoyances and tell me 'it gets better' before I spend too much more time with the game.

For starters, I don't like any of the main characters. I don't hate them either. I just don't really feel anything about them. They have as much depth as the Ninja Turtles. There's the main one, the smart one, the tough one and the easygoing one. Everything they say and do so far has basically been responding to events in a way that suits those descriptions. Obviously I expect the world gets more fleshed out and the characters evolve in kind as the story progresses, but do they ever become more interesting?

Next is the story, or more specifically, how it is at complete odds with the gameplay. It seems like there's some pretty big events going on in the grander scale of things, but I'm just out here fishing and killing wild animals for some reason. No one seems to particularly care about... anything and it just comes across as really strange. Is anything ever going to be explained explicitly or am I just supposed to infer details while collecting a billion bear asses and dog tags and having an AI chauffeur me around a bunch of fields near a highway? (don't get me started on 'manual' driving mode)

Third up - combat. Nothing feels snappy and responsive. Everything is massively over-animated and it never feels like I'm properly in control. I get that I hold circle to attack and move the stick to switch between attack chains, like if I hold back and circle with the dual daggers, I'll start backing off and tossing them, or if I hold back while attacking with the sword, I can do a backflip then shift into some aerial attacks. I know about warp attacks and distance affecting damage, I know about blindside attacks and link chains, and I know about the L1 and direction teamwork attacks.

While there's certainly some depth to it, it just feels like complete shit. I hold a button to play an animation and when anything looks like it's going to attack, I hold square to avoid it or parry instead. There have been numerous times now where I've been whacking at air a couple of metres behind a fast-moving creature because the aiming is controlled by the game rather than me, or I've warped to a flying enemy and by the time I get there they've already flown out of range. I've also seen characters straight-up warp to get in place for one of the 'awesome' link attack animations which is just weird and jarring. Everything feels like presentation is prioritized over functionality.

Is there a certain point like Final Fantasy XIII that is recommended to play until, or is this the entire game?

What about the crystal? Or the summons? I don't think those were really explained at all beyond "we need to protect this and get these"

Yeh they weren't really, but it's pretty generic FF stuff that exists in lads of the previous games.

Over the last year I've played V, VIII, X, XIV, and now XV, and they all throw things at you like crystals or meteor or powers that have very little context or exposition. It's kind of a fm in FF worlds that shit like this just exists and is important for whatever reason.

Even the best games in the series (from a story perspective) do this a lot.

It's a shame that FFVX is affected by it more due to the disjointed nature of the main narrative.

Man I made the mistake to travel at night. I should of listened to Ignis when he said it was best to travel in the day. I drove the car to go on a night hunt and low and behold a a Level 30 demon attacked us in the middle of the road. MInd you im still level 4 and just started up the game. He brutalized us in a few shots. But man am I digging this game.

It has been over two years since I bought a physical game, but I went ahead and ordered the deluxe steelbook for this one. Should have it in a few days.

I'm ten hours in somewhere in Chapter 2. Granted, this has pretty much dominated all my time following work in the evenings in the last two days, so that accounts for something.

Yet, I also am not loving it. The combat lacks any real satisfying impact or reaction from me. Reaction timing feels real off, though I have a good grasp on the mechanics having taken on hunts upwards a dozen levels above me and managed fine, but its never felt satisfying while doing so. Lots of other little quibbles as well, like wait mode not letting me pan camera to find a warp-point? Just all adds up to being "fine" but FAR from impressing me or considering it a 'good' combat system. Hoping this changes with progress.

My biggest other issues this early on just stem from not engaging with the twangy, generic OST tracks that seem to dominate the early game. The exploration not feeling satisfying, mostly the early zones feeling completely lifeless and lacking impressive vistas or environmental landmarks. Just heading towards objective markers and having little of substance to keep my attention while doing so. Maybe a problem with the early chapters though.

Just not sure I will be keeping the same pace of playing if this continues.

Quick question - sometimes all sidemissions are greyed out and I can´t control the car manually - why?

If you are still pre-chapter 3 then just play the game more and it unlocks mate

I can confirm chapter 3's area looks ALOT nicer than chap 1-2

The combat is a huge improvement from the original demo and manages to be fun enough, but it still feels like a frankstein's monster of cool animations and half baked ideas. Wish they'd either gone more traditional or fully controlled character action. It's a compromise between the two that doesn't really satisfy on either count.

Some chapters hace certain sections of the map blocked, because of the plot or whatever. If a sidequest is inside the blocked areas, you can't do them until you finish the chapter.

A few things:

He characters do get fleshed out, but you need to explore and listen to their conversations and reactions to things.

They have an easy charm to them that makes spending time with them a joy.

-

Combat isn't lose. It requires good timing and planning.

Holding down buttons puts you into a state: attack or defend. These are automated, so get used to that idea. The real work from you is learning when to switch between these automated states and when to activate the additional actions on offer.

Use the defend state to get your bearings. You can hold down the defend button and forget about Noctis for a few seconds while the game automatically dodges for you, using this window you can choose a target to attack/warp to, select a team move like regroup to reset your positioning, use a spell, find a warp point to recharge, etc...

It comes down to managing time spent in both attack and defense states while choosing your timing for other actions.

-

The main narrative is a mess. It's disjointed in both presentation and how it's conveyed, and it gives you the bear minimum you need to grasp the details of the story.

It has its moments where it comes together, but they're not often enough to make it feel truly connected. It's a real shame as this could have been something really special.

(Apparently the ending is very good though. It this is true then the above won't matter as much to me.)

The one saving grace is the main group and their interactions. If you don't enjoy this then j understand why you'd find it unappealing.

Tragic victim of fan death
Off the top of my head here are some plot related things that happens in the beginning in previous FF games that I played fairly recently
- FFV - Bartz runs into a princess who's trying to visit all the crystals that maintain the balance of the world's elements and figure out what's wrong
- FFVI - Terra joins up with a rebel to save the evil empire conquering the world with magitek
- FFVII - Avalanche is trying to stop Shinra from sucking the life out of the planet
- FFVIII - You work as a mercenary for hire that gets pulled into a rebellion against a sorcerer
- FFIX - you spend the early hours escaping and learn dagger's mom is crazy
- FFX - you must complete a journey to save the world from Sin
- FFIXV - stop an evil empire that is ruining people's lives
- FFXIII - trying to escape a purge

Out of these only FFXIII and FFIX have intros where things are happening but aren't really explained in detail why these things are important. And in FFIX it's supposed to be a journey of things just happening so it's consistent throughout the game. Here in FFXV, an empire invades your kingdom but hardly explains why it's bad or anything. Things happen and literally NOTHING is explained. Idk how anyone can look at other FF's intros and plot exposition and compare XV's with similar outlook. It's not even remotely the same.

Thanks! Still chapter two so this must be it!

Everybody should be rushing to chapter 3, at the very least. Lots of QOL stuff opens up that makes things faster and less frustrating. I wouldn't bother with side quests until you get the chocobo.

Yeah the second region is several times better than the first. I especially love finding cute little fishing ponds, such a quaint feeling.

That feel when the friendly AI breaks against the final boss of an endgame dungeon. -_- i managed to do it solo but dear god I hope that was a fluke

What I like about the open world in this game is thst there is just so much to find and explore, stuff and dungeons you can otherwise miss..that give you rewards which are pretty sizeable.

You always get something nice. Unlike the "exploration" in something like Xenoblade X where exploration just means going somewhere.
