The combat is a huge improvement from the original demo and manages to be fun enough, but it still feels like a frankstein's monster of cool animations and half baked ideas. Wish they'd either gone more traditional or fully controlled character action. It's a compromise between the two that doesn't really satisfy on either count.

I thought it was a blast in the demo, so if it is improved on that then I will have a grand old time. Duscae gave me enough of a taste to see that they were implementing the kind of system that I have been wanting for FF. Basically, more real-time with all of the flash and flare.

Why is there a timer on the pause screen? Is that just there to tell me how long I've played the game, or is there another reason? I don't know why, but It kind of annoys me.

I can't get a handle on warp-jumping. It seems like every time I want to get to a higher position, I warp strike instead.

Here's a trick when you hard lock on you can't warp to higher ground, so you gotta toggle between hard and soft. I'll show a few examples (no spoilers):

Can't pick up anything in the overworld. I'm next to a treasure and the A button prompt doesn't appear. I hope exiting to the main menu fixes this.

Yep, fixed it.

Man I made the mistake to travel at night. I should of listened to Ignis when he said it was best to travel in the day. I drove the car to go on a night hunt and low and behold a a Level 30 demon attacked us in the middle of the road. MInd you im still level 4 and just started up the game. He brutalized us in a few shots. But man am I digging this game.

Usually what I do when the Iron Giants pop up and they force you to get out of the car is I turn the camera away from the Iron Giant and run away a little bit. Then I turn back towards the car and usually the Iron Giant disappears. That'll allow me to drive a bit further until another pops up and I just repeat until I get back into a town.

Damn .. The whole thing
with Prompto's story is planned as a DLC makes me so bitter and sad :<

Why weren't they all included in the game, this blows, could've made the game longer too >.>

The more I figure it out the more I dig it, but I agree. Holding the button for combos seems to obfuscate potential transitions (with weapon changes or button presses) more than simplify things.

Chapter 1 spoiler:

the side quests with the piece of a map you find leads you into the mines correct? I spent like an hour looking around the marked area outside before realizing it was probably directing me underground. Lol.

But the quest says its level 5, yet it leads me to where that level 50-something samurai boss monster is?

Wait, what sidequest is this? I'm on chapter 3 and haven't found this yet. Where do you find it?

What I like about the open world in this game is that there is just so much to find and explore, stuff and dungeons you can otherwise miss..that give you rewards which are pretty sizeable.

You always get something nice. Unlike the "exploration" in something like Xenoblade X where exploration just means going somewhere.

This is what I like to hear. Exploration in a gorgeous world that is just not a bunch a filler. Plenty of beauty to take in, fun things to do and the rewards are worth your time as well. Something many open world games fail to deliver. If this is indeed the case, the game is insta-great for me.

I thought the same, but it's outside close to one of the large rocks. You can tell the elevation by looking at the icon and seeing if there's an arrow pointing up or down.

No definitely not. I can't remember now but I think the item you need to find is in the area with the entrance to the mines.

A few things:

Info

Thanks for taking the time to type out a response. It's disappointing to hear about the main narrative being a mess. I was hoping at some point things might come together and deliver a strong story, though I guess with this games troubled history and multimedia approach, it's easy to understand why everything might be a bit disjointed.

While I enjoy the way the characters interact and play off one another, the fact that they act the way they do makes no sense to me because of the context they're in. Because of events that happen, the easygoing vibe going on seems to flow against the main story. I think to enjoy this game, I'll need to put the fact that
Noctis' kingdom has been invaded and his father is dead (maybe...?)
to the back of my mind, because the way the group is acting is completely against the situation as I perceive it.

As I stated in my other post, the automation behind the combat systems is my issue with it. Not necessarily any lack of depth. There's just this unshakeable feeling of lacking control because I don't know when the animation I'm holding the button for is going to end. There have been several times where I've been holding square to avoid an incoming attack but Noctis has been animating the previous attack still and so I've taken damage, while there have been other times where I've dodged when I think I'm still attacking. I would've preferred something more tactile like Kingdom Hearts or Dragon's Dogma over this, honestly.

Regardless, I'll keep at it for a few more hours because I really appreciate how different this entry is as a long-time fan and it's both visually and audibly wonderful, despite a couple of technical issues here and there.

The game felt short for an open world game though. I did 45 side quests and reached 35 hours. If I didn't do the side quests, I'd probably do it in 20 hours. :/

The latter half is rushed, like Xenogears Disc 2 level of rushed. It's not bad like Xenogears' but it's obvious that they had to get this game out.

Pretty sure you can tap it instead of holding it if you want and you'll still do combos, allowing you with that control you want for transition.

armiger to me? When I hit the shoulder buttons the little weapons float around me but I dint see a difference in strength of anything?

Holy shit !! I think I've lost ALL my saves...that's 20+ hours of gameplay. Wtf man...losing a save in a game like this is terrible and I probably won't play the game for a good while because of this.

Those first two slots you see were auto save slots, below those were my manual saves....I see nothing !!

Ok, PS4 uploaded a save automatically about 5 hours ago when I stopped playing and left house.

I'm downloading it now and if it works then I lose nothing.

Yeah... hopefully they get better as you unlock combat techniques for them. Since I'm going magic-based, I'll probably just Quintcast Firaga/Thundaga and blow everyone the F away. Magic is damn OP in this game.
I don't think they ever get good enough for you to be purely magic-based due to the cooldown on spells. Especially since the -aga spells are so resource intensive.

*Update*

Downloaded the cloud save and it works.I was in luck because the cloud save was from the exact point I stopped playing and left home allowing time for PS4 to upload it while I was gone. But it never should have disappeared in the first place, I mean there were multiple save slots and all disappeared ? Wut??

The worst part about this is that this game only uses ONE large save file for all your saves in the game. So if it gets corrupted then all your saves are gone at once no matter how many you made !! That's ridiculous.

Glad to hear you got that worked out. That sounded really scary :(

Will saving it in a USB work if I don't have PS+?
