just went from level 29 to 51 in one sleep lol.
Banking a ton of exp and then sleeping at one of those bonus hotels is a pretty satisfying feeling. It's Pavlovian conditioning at its most base form but I'm not gonna lie and pretend I didn't get a kick out of watching the exp bar fill up over and over again.

PSA: This game also has the r2 button glitch. Older ps4 controllers with the faulty r2 buttons may not get full speed in the regalia unless you press it until it feels like it will break.

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the regalia's speed and I just found out myself.

Solution is to allow ignis to drive. He gets full speed. At night though you are on your own.

"Wanderlust" doesn't play anywhere near as much as it should, given that it's the nearest thing we have to a world map theme. It's so beautiful too.

Speaking of world map themes, the airship themes from FFVII-IX are the perfect accompaniment to driving. Phon Coast is great to drive to as well.

I can't remember the name, but it's the motel at the rest stop between Hammerhead and Galdin Quay. It's a great scene.

I had the airship theme from VII playing when Chapter 2 started. Awesome song to drive to, tonally very weird in that context lol.

The Prompto scene is apparently random btw, mine was way out west in Duscae.

Edit: so true about Wanderlust too. That song is so fucking good. I didn't even think about it but is it on the mp3 player? Could truly be my overworld theme if it is.

I get the impression that the devs preferred the exploring to be silent (aside from outposts and towns) but after negative response to how music was handled in the Duscae demo, asked for a couple of pieces to be written as a compromise. I would have liked a lot more, personally.

The music written for the game is fine but doesn't leave as much of an impression as it could have if it were heard more often. And it doesn't help that the pieces you tend to hear the most are usually the most irritating (like the various town or outpost themes).

i just did 1 fire + 24 debased coins and killed the bandersnatch. 150k xp. x2 = 300xp.

i've noticed this game is more about the ascension grid and your equipment than your level really.

Is there any consensus on decent weapons before i head to chapter 4?

Anyone? Lol

Not sure if I'm one to talk since I was a couple levels 'ahead' for the first 3 chaps, lol, but accruing AP and upgrading their abilities plus having adequate gear does help. Also when it comes to combat, sometimes the best way to fight is the safest way; constantly be on the defensive and stock up on potions. To acquire these though (AP and gil), you'd have to do a decent amount of side-exploring and side-quests and considering how quickly the story moves on main quests alone, if you don't feel like doing all the side content easy mode is a viable option imo if you just want to enjoy the story.

Anyone? Lol

From what I've noticed, the "level recommendations" are inaccurate. That's about it. (Plus the excellent camera adds to the difficulty level)

Other than that, get the hang of the battles in terms of when a weapon's animation ends so you can dodge, learn what abilities get used when you tilt the control stick with each weapon, roll in combat, etc.

Just got the hotel scene with Prompto. So many feels. ;_;

#TeamPrompto forever. <3

Prompto is the best, one can savely say that after finishing the game. :D

That scene you are talking about should have been mandatory and not optional though. :/ I missed it the first time even though I slept at that motel, just not late enough. It has to be night.

Yummm, the very best FF soundtrack. I never tire of listening to Gustaberg.

I just started this game last night, having a good time with it so far.

Guys who have finished the game, i am on chapter 10. Shall i go back and do side stuff or get done with the story?

I am level 40 have done a number of hunts and sidequests already but i was thinking whether to go ahead with the story or return back to do side stuff.

I just feel that if i decide to go ahead with the story I should commit 100% to it because storywise it feels weird to interrupt what is happening.

Also, is there end game stuff that unlocks after you finish the game?

That was probably the hardest section in the game for me, honestly. And I was a little overleveled too. Have you been keeping up on your equipment? It makes a big difference in this game. I hesitate to recommend easy mode because honestly, this isn't really a game you want to power through only for its story. It's just not that great.

Is there any fast way to level Survival? I'm reading that it takes 20 hours of running to get from level 7 to level 10, which sounds absurd.

I've read a bunch of complaints about the action and jump button being one and the same (Which appearently isn't an issue in the japanese version where X is still used for jump but O for every other action.) but that doesn't seem to be the real problem. Even indoors, when you can't jump, or run, or anything, the action button often straight up doesn't register at first, when you wanna inspect something, talk to someone, etc. Pretty weird.

Anyone else feel magic is ridiculously OP in this game? I just beat the minibosses for the royal arms in Chapter 3 and they were wrecked by two spells.

Are there any maps or resources for optional/hidden dungeons? I'm near the end of Ch 5 and I don't think I've done a single optional dungeon yet (outside of a couple in Hammerhead that are like level 50's and out of my range)

[chapter 9]

is there any sidequest in
Altissia or it is just a story location? Based on the dialogues it seems that shit is gonna be real and I don't want to miss something :p

Oh man I'm so excited! Just downloaded the patch and ready to start. But I can't decide between english or japanese voices ...

The japanese voices are generally better, but a lot of the dialogue in the game is coming up during gameplay, your buddies talk while you're exploring, you overhear NPC conversations etc, which can make it a bit difficult to focus on the subtitles. (Which are also a bit small imo.)

Personally I'm still sticking with the japanese voices, because while the english voices are competent for the most part, there are a few *really* badly voiced NPC's.

You will be directed to 3 or 4 optional dungeons for sidequests. I think the early is about Lvl 30

About to cash in my EXP befor eend of Chapter 3

Is Galdin Quay (x2 multiplier) still the best place to cash in or is there another town i have access to for a high multiplier?
Afaik it's still the best place. There is a hotel with x3 exp but we can't go there yet IIRC

Question: when you counter, do you see brightly colored blocks appear? Like giant pixels? Is this the normal effect, or is my pro's GPU showing early signs of shitting the bed?

That happens sometimes with my regular PS4, I'm pretty sure it's a glitch.

Chapter 5, level 64

I love this game so far. Sure the quests are route, the fast travel systems are a mess, the X button being action and jump is annoying, but every minute I spend in the world feels like a hand crafted minute, not procedurally generated.

On my way to a hunt, running along an aqueduct, it starts to rain - the shimmer of the puddles, the green water, a pinkish sunset in the background as I gallop along with my chocobo.

A quiet pond that I discover in the middle of a wooded area - I decide to fish for a while.

Driving my car at night, I slide to a stop as the road ahead is blocked by two tonberry.

A cutscene with a young Noctis, the subtle facial animations as he interacts with Luna.

So good.

Spoiler question about towns :

when or at what chapter does the second city unlock i only stil can go to lestallum
?

Thanks.

At the end of Ch 13 and I can barely get any damage on the last boss. I'm level 40 but clearly that ain't good.

Went back to the open world and now I'm just going to do side quests and missions for the next day

So even though I believe the combat to not be terribly good, there is one thing that makes it engaging: enemies remain a challenge throughout the game. Battles don't feel like a waste of time, which is a major accomplishment for an RPG.

Just started trying out wait mode. WOW.

Now im not sure if I want to stay on wait mode or action mode. Wish there was a button to quickly switch between both.

Piece of advice for fast travelling with car: Sometimes, you've never been to a quest location, so the game would only give you the option of waiting for 10 or so minutes while Ignis drives you to the quest location. However, what you can do is fast travel to a parking spot or location near the quest location, and then drive the rest of the way for like 1 minute or something.

Saved me A LOT of time.

good luck... lol

Lol I beat him, thanks to a much needed assist by Titan lmao. Also I just realized that you may have been talking about another monster.
I got the name wrong, I meant to say Midgar Zolom or w/e, the big ass snake, instead of Midgarsormr. We're you referring to something else?

Also, could someone tell me what are Rare Coins used for? And how to use the Armiger Chain?

And with that and an overnight to think and reflect about what happened, I've finished the main storyline of Final Fantasy XV. The game we have been waiting for the past ten years has finally arrived and I've finally beaten it. So let's share some of my thoughts:

+ One of the greatest parties in the series. If there is one thing Tabata deserves credit for, it's for achieving his goal of making this an intimate story between four friends. You grow to care about each of them quickly. For as much complaints as people have given the writing, the banter between all four felt so organic and natural, really drawing you into their friendship. I think this is the greatest strength of the game.

+ These dungeons are something else. I still have about six or seven more dungeons to go plundering through but they did an excellent job of making each dungeon have it's own unique experience with (usually) a fun and challenging boss at the end. Probably the best in the series.

+ The main villain of this game is great. No spoilers but I think he will stand up a lot better than Caius, Barthandelous, and Vayne (despite Vayne being written so well). So deliciously evil. The fight against them is a blast too.

+ More freedom is a good thing. XV learnt this lesson after XIII became a movie with some action thrown in every now and then. The first hour is a bit awkward but after, you are thrown into this beautiful world that you can explore.

+ Combat is a highlight. Seriously - it's fun! While the Paradigm Shift system from XIII was enormous fun too, it could quickly become tedious. This one never grows old. I was skeptical at first because I did not like the combat of the demos. It felt so sluggish to me. But the end result didn't at all and there is so much to unlock within the Ascension system.

+ Beautiful music. Some of Shimomura's best music is here (especially in all the different boss fights) and is a worthy successor after the fantastic XIII soundtrack. Gonna have to buy this one. The music gets even better as the game pushes through.

+ Possibly the best ending in the series. I'll leave this one as is.

- Cutscenes are pretty much ass in the first third of the game. There is a clear downward regression here after XIII perfected the cinematic qualities of their cutscenes to a T. I was more focused on the gameplay at this point, so it didn't bother me too much, as I was just happy they gave us stuff to do.

- Story seems to be missing parts. There are abrupt jumps in the plot that seem to come out of nowhere. It's bizarre. I'm chalking this one up to developmental cuts for the release date but I'd love it if some of the DLC developed some of what was lost.

- NPC characters are hit and miss. Some of them, like Iris and Aranea, are really good and I would have loved to see them in the game even more. Others just show up for their one or two scenes and then we don't hear from them again. Reminds me of Jihl Nabaat from XIII.

- Chapter 13 was such a slog. I didn't even mind it but it did not need to be that long.

Now is the time for me to do post-game stuff. The game isn't perfect by any means (especially story wise) but it is a blast to play and, more importantly, has a soul to it that I felt has been lacking from the series for awhile now. Hats off to Tabata and his team for providing such a fun experience. Time to do everything else!
