Want to use magic? Regroup!

Want you allies stay out of danger? Regroup! (if you manage to cast it before the attack)

Want to cure your allies after a strong attack? Regroup!

Want to reposition your characters? Regroup!

You don't get it? The game offers a wide selection of movility and management options for all the needs the game throws at you. Git gud son! /s

I'm not having nearly as much difficulty with the combat as others seem to be having. Using regroup is a crutch.

Just use a 1TP move to give everyone I-frames. To avoid big hits.

The only time you really ever need to set up spell attacks with regroup us when you have some incredibly broken magic to cast. I'm taking like quincast hugh potency -aga magic.

The combat is by far the most solid part of this game.

The controls seem kind of ??? tho like even going slowly I don't think I've ever managed to reel a fish without damaging the line

Also, unrelated, but how do you stop Prompto from dying? He dies literally every fight for me.

I'm at the point where I've used my AP on Ignis' Regenerate skill (Useful skill in general), gave him my best HP accessories (Or should I be focusing on Vitality?), and now also his First Aid skills. I will make Prompto live somehow, I swear it.

i'm up to Chapter 7 and i haven't used the ascension once yet.

i found a way to let my party kill everyone for me =)
but i should start using it to level up.

Oh yeah, you have a phone, but for whatever reason you have to go back to tell people in person that you've completed a quest.

It's funny how for a game that's only really been in development for a few years, many of the design decisions certainly feel a decade old.

To be fair it would make sense to go back in person as you'd have to pick up the reward for completing said quest.

LMAO mess tbh. Maybe we shouldn't spend so long trying to help him! :p

They should have the option for a delivery service like in Earthbound that can deliver the rewards to you if you call back for a quest completion. Either go back and get the rewards, or call that it's completed and wait for the delivery to reach you.

Wish I knew Prompto holds my party back so much, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with him.

Is it true that the Carbuncle only appears on easy mode? So basically everyone that played the platinum demo which gave you this for use in the full game got screwed unless you play it on easy mode?

People hyping up Regroup too much. More often than not enemies will swarm you or Ignis will have everyone gather up right in the middle of enemies lmao

I agree, but not necessarily because of the ability mechanics. I find it less than optimal because it requires 2/3 tech bars which means if I'm using it every time it's available I won't be able to use offensive tech abilities at all. In many cases the offensive abilities provide the best opportunity for big AOE outside of spells, and killing 50% of a large enemy group is a much more effective way to lower/mitigate damage than healing 30% of your health bars one time. The primary example that comes to mind is the giant group of rifle soldier troops you see often in chapter 2/3...using regroup just means you stand there healing for five seconds while 15 enemies spam projectile damage on you, and Noctis/Prompto are back to 5% again within seconds after the cast ends.

Wish I knew Prompto holds my party back so much, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with him.

Try to focus on recovery abilities, give him spells with secondary healing effects, don't give him aoe weapons he can damage himself/others with, grab the ascendance ability that allows you to equip two accessories on him and boost his vitality/hp, and pay attention to his health during the start of encounters to heal him before he falls into danger. The FFXV random combat encounters are rife with spike damage, and often Noctics/Prompto will grab the aggro from an entire enemy wave and drop to danger almost immediately. If you use potions to heal Prompto through the spike damage (but don't let him go to danger so his max hp starts dropping) he will often take care of himself fine after that. If you let him fall into danger and allow the timer to tick down then his max health will drop quickly (the gray bar will shrink) and even when you heal him he'll still be stuck at a low max hp value that causes him to fall back into danger again immediately after another attack or two. Understanding the mechanics of max hp vs current hp (black bar vs gray bar) helped me immensely in keeping everyone alive during random encounters - the game explains it maybe once in a text message box, it's another mechanic that slips through the cracks of the awful FFXV gameplay documentation.

I saw a few posts about this before, but are there any French speakers that can confirm whether the French dub is any good? I swapped through the three languages and recently stuck to French mainly because of how less annoying Prompto sounds. Sometimes it's difficult distinguishing Noctis' voice from Iggy's, though.

Finished the gane... Ending is pretty good, to the point that, even though I enjoyed open world stuff, retroactively, I'd prefer a game with stronger narrative building up to this ending.

I'd make sure to pick up Ignis' regroup ability early on. It's pretty helpful.

Don't get caught up in sidequests. Blitz through the main story and come back to them later.

Thanks for the replies and yay! Links.

Lol... game just finished downloading. Gonna check out them links and dive in after.

Ice dungeon doesn't make sense to me. Requires vertical movement that allows for you to fall back to the bottom and lose progress, in a game where a vast majority of your character's movement in combat is automated.

Walking around with FF14's ost going is surreal, especially after I've played that game for the better part of two years.

I reached the first town. I expected it to be bigger honestly. Hopefully there's a sizeable one coming up.
Chocobos make everything significantly better.

Why are they rentals only though?
Most of the games have always had chocos as rent-able beasts.

OK seriously...just left for Artissia and
Gentiana showed up
in one of the photos again and freaked me out for a second lol. Maybe it's time to sleep but still they could be pretty creepy. >_<

Looking back any hate this game gets is ridiculous. The story has holes for sure but if you just think about it for a bit you can filled in alot of those blanks. But as an experience, it was wonderful. Witcher 3 is a better game but this might be my favorite game on this generation of consoles.

It's finally over...

Actually just double checked, for me I am going to Ignis, not Noct. I tele away, used thundara and regroup after and we all went to ignis who was right by the AoE effect.

I guess I'll have to test this a bit more. But I am pretty sure I cheesed a hunt doing this with magic.

I enjoyed Kingsglaive today and started FFXV. I do feel like there are WAY too many sidequests and they have little to no importance. I might just go through the story.

I'd recommend sticking mostly to the story. The game is way less cumbersome that way. I thought the car upgrade quests were worth doing though.

Trophy spoiler (nothing revealing):
I never got the trophy with Gentiana appearing in my pictures. She never did. Am I going to have to replay the game at some point lol?

Story is pretty much on par with a lot of other FF games. FfIX and FFX had the best stories in the series for me. FF never had amazing stories. Always been a about the whole package.

guess I ran into a bug on a side quest called Reliable Royalty. Im supposed to search in an area for a saphire stone. Walked around for like 30 minutes, then finally saw a glowing thing on the ground but gives no prompt to pick it up and its not letting me grab it.

Edit: oh..ok then. I saved my game, went back in game and now its letting me pick it up

You should need to get that from a rock.

It's kind of beyond the marker and you have to go around the wall.

Edit: nvm

The story might be (argueable), the way is told and the narrative itself is just horrendous. That's why is way below other FF in that department.

I just googled it and saw someone else mention the same thing happened to them on this quest and another quest. Just a weird bug with picking stuff up I guess. Just saving the game and going back in fixes it. Dont even have to reload

XV easily has the worst story in the whole series, so I disagree with you on that. I don't see how anyone can put this on the same level. It had a great outline, great ideas for a story, but it completely fails to execute on it. Just because you can mentally fill in those massive holes with your own head canon doesn't make it decent.

It's the gameplay that saves the game, even if the quests are mostly fluff, the dungeons are wonderful and the combat is fun.

No, you can get this one after having completed the game.

There's no missable trophy/achievement in the game.

Agreed, it was dumb of square to put essential story stuff outside the game. Plus a lot of world building stuff is given to the player through interactables and dialogue between the guys.
