I've never played a FF game, but this looks kinda cool. The open world/driving/bromance thing is what's grabbing my attention.

Is there any loot to collect in this game? Does it make a difference? How is the character progression, do I get to assign abilities and stats?

I'm not trying to argue. I'd like to understand how it makes any sense in game.
It doesn't.

Why do you care though? It doesn't fucking matter. A 9999 spell does like 1/8th my party's health if they're even in range which they usually aren't, and there are abilities and equipment to make it matter even less.

It's like complaining that you don't die in one hit from a headshot in first person shooters in single player but do in multiplayer. It's game balance. And in FFXV's case, it's such a non-factor I don't even know why it's being brought up.

Wow, this Behemoth fight is SO much fun (to free the Chocobos). Every hit on Noctis just kills him and then he has to revive again. I don't have any potions or anything so this fucking sucks.

Yes, from weapons to potions to stuff you can sell or craft with. You can find some pretty cool stuff, especially in dungeons, so I'd say to an extent, yea. There's a thing called an Ascension grid, with several modes that you can upgrade and obtain skills. For example, there's one for the main character Noctis called Combat, one for his friends called Teamwork, one for their Techniques, etc. etc. As this obviously implies, the more you put into it, the easier battles become for you. As for straight up stats like HP and such, that's affected by the weapons and accessories you equip.

Yea, that's why I'm like, I don't exactly understand what he wants me to say here. Like you already know it ultimately doesn't make much sense, what else is there to say? Not really interested in delving into that, just wanted to say I don't really care if they get hit or not. As you said, it's not like it just outright kills them, so I'm normally fine with them being hit. I would love for it to not exist, among other things, but oh well. At any rate, still waiting on that bestiary...

I really don't get the Analyze skill. Ignis just seems to do it whenever he wants and never when I want. Wish there was a way to manually do it without using the clunky wait mode.

Loot is the number one determining factor for character strength, for better or worse (obviously levels and skills matter, but the jump you get from a new weapon is more than a handful of levels or skills).

Character progression is somewhat linear, but you can focus on certain areas. I'm currently buffing the hell out of magic. Progression and playstyle is most impacted by how you play and with which weapons you use. I only use daggers and spells, and my two other equipment slots are weapons that increase my magic stat. However, you don't assign stats like a traditional cRPG.

Chapter 11:
is everyone dying offscreen? Luna died somehow, that I could buy since the rite took a lot out of her, but I'm now reading a newspaper on the train that says Ravus is dead too. What?! When did that happen? Why did that happen? On that note, I wasn't aware the empire had already killed three gods. Which ones? Why is this suddenly common knowledge for every character?
I've been pretty attentive and followed everything easily thus far, yet suddenly I'm completely lost.

Chapter 13 should be removed from this game

It was so unnecessary. I can't believe I slogged through that garbage.

I was really enjoying the game and almost everything after Altissa has been handled poorly. The game was so obviously rushed or cut short in development. The way they give you (only read if you've reached Chapter 13)
Shiva's Power by having the train break down was obviously a "we didn't have time to make a dungeon" moment." They tout these desert and ice worlds and then you don't ever visit them.

The story is a shit show. It is worse than Destiny's. I've always enjoyed FF lavish story telling, even if it is so far out there, and the great cinematics that accompany it. This is missing all that. I enjoyed FFXIII story more (not the characters, but the story and cinematics).

Well, I just rage quit the game for now. Fighting that behemoth in the beginning, doing a bit of damage and then going down again and again is not really fun. It's frustrating.

It's a half baked concept. It's emblematic of so much shit in this game.

Magic, the open world, the story, the final chapters, how traveling works, the summon fights, hunts that only come out at night without any way to pass the time other than waiting around.

All of it is hampered by the same stupid logic of something that seems cool, but isn't fun to play.

They try to use ingame logic to give an explanation for these things, but it doesn't make sense and makes the game less fun.

That's why I care, and that's what I'm discussing. Magic was just what people were talking about at the time.

Best thing about that fight is my game crashed the first time I beat it. Was so much fun doing all the stealth stuff again...

This is the first Final Fantasy game I’ve ever played, and I’ve gotta say, I’m absolutely loving this game! I usually don’t play RPGs unless they’re action RPGs like the Souls series, BioWare titles like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, and Elder Scrolls/Fallout titles. 12 hours in, level 19, Chapter 3, and I’m completely invested in the characters, side-quests, and monster hunting.

Don’t know exactly how much they’ve changed the formula from older Final Fantasy’s but I hope they continue in this direction and improve on it.

Mostly enjoying the game so far but (Chapter 13+ spoilers)
does the game seriously expect me to fucking run all the way to Hammerhead from Mother of Pearl? What the fuck?
edit: Oh thank god

Nighttime-only hunts give you the option to instantly "Wait until nightfall", though? Unless I misunderstand.

That option was added in the second day 1 patch, I guess they might have started playing before that one got released and didn't bother with doing nighttime quests ever since.

Why? I've seen this sentiment a lot but I don't understand why. She's a complete non-entity like most characters outside of the main set.

Plus I hate her outfit, haircut, and her creepy jailbait crush on Noctis (dunno how old she is but she looks like 14/15).

Her voice is cute though.

Chapter 13 was great and you're all terrible at evaluating video games :p

Seriously, though, I was on chapter 12, having a good time, mentally preparing myself for all the suck I was about to have to witness. Only to realize I had been on chapter 13 this whole time.

That only popped up for me once. For a mission at night in the power plant.

This has literally never been an option in any of the hunts I've done except the Exigen plant.

lol. What the fuck?

Love everything about her. And I love her interactions with her brother.
Her tech attack is pretty sweet too.

I'm honestly not sure why this game has friendly fire for the magic to begin with. Ramuh nuking the place does nothing but a little magic grenade does?

Yeah, I hate the friendly fire for magic.

Game is an odd duck as it has tons of little things I dislike that should turn me off from the game, but I'm still having a blast.

To be fair, I was just a point where life has been super busy/stressful for a few months and has finally calmed down, so an open world, sidequest-athon game just fits the bill for me to sit and relax with mostly mindless, immersive entertainment. So that's probably a lot of it for me as I'd probably be just as in to any of these types of open world games right now.

Not very far, do you randomly get little events with your party throughout the game whenever you camp?
I got a little event about training on the beach with my bros. Just reminded me of that scene from Rocky III.

FFXV: The Return of Clubber Lang

Also is there any way to target magic without obliterating your team? Cause good lord I fuck them up every time.

Has anyone completed Gladio's tour at the
Vesperpool
?

Apparently it's incredibly difficult going by people who have done it. I attempted it once but I never managed
to get the specified fish to bite
