How do you wait until night? I go on a hunt at night, camp to level up to prepare for it, then it's morning so I can't do the hunt and I spend 5 minutes running back to base... really frustrating.

Right now this game is just a whole bunch of running around achieving nothing in a dull world with the worst controlling car of the past decade of gaming.

You get an option to go straight to night time when you choose a hunt from restaurant

I don't think you can do it manually by yourself which is dumb..

I'll say what I will about 13

The story and writing is garbage but the entire trilogy has amazing art, music and combat. And yeah that's passable for me. Wish those aspects were better, but I mostly enjoyed all three especially the last one. XIII-2 was a HUGE step up IMO.

I'll agree with that. It's the worst Final Fantasy for me, but they really nailed all those three you mentioned, which made playing it to the end bearable.

I guess I can take it for what it is, at worst I'll lose 90 minutes and I lose 90 minutes all the time.

I actually really liked Kingsglaive. I watched it twice over the weekend. It helped me better understand the plot of the game and answered some questions I had. So I think it is worth a watch before jumping into the game.

Asking again. Any point in pre-ordering the Deluxe with the season pass? Do we even know the contents and pricing of the season content?

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Picked up FFXV on my way to work this morning. Looking forward to dipping in tonight when I get home. Any chance I can play the game while the epic sized day 1 patch downloads?

Why not the Kotaku review tho? I thought it was beautiful and captured the essence of the game very well.

I loved the way it was written too.

A few possibilities:

1. Kagari didn't want too much positivity on the front page as part of her long running nefarious scheme to scupper FF XV and thereby elevate the XIV team in the eyes of the fandom.

2. Kagari and PressSneak have a long, sordid, and secretly adversarial history and this is just the latest salvo.

3. She just grabbed some representative reviews w/out greatly over-thinking it.

My money is on 3, but 2 would be a lot more exciting!

I probably need to watch Kingsglaive again. First time through I checked my brain out for a silly over-the-top video game movie and built some Lego or something while it was on in the background. Enjoyed it though so maybe that's the way to go with it.

About 20 mins into it and I enjoy it quite a bit so far.

For the record I loved Advent Children and have a high tolerance for this stuff.

So I'm right... I have to choose nighttime at the shop, then go, then level up, then go back to the shop... what the fuck is this game flow...

Wouldn't be a problem if I could level up anywhere but I always want to before a hunt, but I don't know I'll be on a hunt until I accept it, but once I've accepted it camping will turn it to morning... what a clusterfuck lol

I've basically avoided all media for this game but I did catch a snippet of the "Pro" footage during Sonys last conference and it looked amazing with them riding Chocobos. Is that was the final game looks like on Pro?

Whats wrong with Kingsglaive? No spoilers please.

It's just not a good movie.

Brotherhood was decent but the less necessary of the two narrative-wise.

I feel it's inconsistent with the main game because it introduces characters that we don't know. The plot surrounding it is important, tohugh.

Each episode in Brotherhood is simple and doesn't try very hard and is endearing because of it.

For me, mostly just the voice acting. All over the place. Facial animations sometimes match perfect. Other times they are god awful and fail to match tone of lines being delivered. Other than that, it's good.

I really enjoyed Kingsglaive! It's pretty much essential viewing to prepare you for FFXV.

It's basically a 115 minute intro-cutscene.

Can someone explain the OT title?

It's from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings "There and Back Again" is Bilbo Baggins book title.

Oh you are in for a treat during the second half of it then. It really picks up fairly quickly once the whole peace treaty stuff goes down hill lol

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Well, just got done with about an hour and a half of play, plus about 15-20 minutes in the tutorial.

First impressions aren't terribly positive. This is from someone who has played none of the demos, and only has a moderate amount of affection for the FF series - though IX, for whatever reason, found itself in my Top Ten of All Time.

Anyway, the entire first hour is a pieced together mess. No real clue what my interaction with the king is all about. Then you go on this trip, car breaks down... and next thing I know I'm doing four different MMO fetch-quests in a row :-/

It doesn't help it takes forever to run from one spot to the next, and the stamina for sprinting is laughably low.

I just did a quest from an early-game dining cab cook/clerk: "The Hunter Slaying Herd." Level 8. I'm level 4 or 5, I think.

Combat was... cumbersome? Confusing? I don't know.

For the SQUARE PARY, are you supposed to tap the button or click and hold it? Cause it seemed like my parry only took like 33% of the time. I'm getting hit from every angle. I was trying to tackle from behind... but I was "Call of Duty almost dead" four or five times - luckily an NPC would "heal" me and then I could fight a bit more. Whole fight took like ten entire minutes for a mob... I thought I did terribly. Then it gave me A+, A+, but a D for time.

So what should I have done differently? I was attacking from behind. Using warp strike a lot and recharging it by going to the cliff. Attacking from behind. Etc.

I only played 13 out of the trilogy. Really loved the art, music, and combat. I did really feel the complaints about linearity though.

I'm cool with a linear game, but the way FF13 went about it wasn't all that great for me. Found myself bored.
That transition from Chp 2. into 3. Interesting. Plot hoooooooooles.

How would you know if this is a plot hole yet

I actually enjoyed Kingsglaive to be honest. It obviously has it's faults but overall I really liked it. Libertus is ridiculous though haha.

My game should be arriving in the next hour or two. My net is slow so I might as well rewatch KG + Brotherhood whilst I'm downloading the Crown update.

Kagari is Verendus is Skullface confirmed for Brawl?!?!?!!

to be fair, it's not the most common word :p

Yes I'm guilty of both misspelling and mispronouncing it -__-

Hey, I hear you. I keep calling it "kingslave" IRL.

I'm getting the game in a couple hours, and I don't see myself waiting for the patch before I play.

Where does the first patched-in cutscene from Kingsglaive come into play? I'm thinking during the early hotel scene when Noctis and Co. read the newspaper?

Yep the story in XIII is very all over the place in a wtf so of way. I never actually finished it even though it does indeed have some great aspects. One day.

Sorry if this has been asked but there's a million FFXV threads.

Can I play this tomorrow with my PS4 Pro and 1080p TV with no problem/lags ?

Or should I wait for the patch for significant improvements.

When is it out anyway?

Kotaku review should be in the OT. We waited and hyped it up for a few weeks with Jason posting here himself.

Not to mention it's a really well written review.

Dude holy shit, your avatar made me do a double take. Thought i saw some Felicity Smoak lady parts for a quick second lmao

We see what we want to see.

There and Back Again is the book Bilbo wrote chronicling his long journey in The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. XV also takes influence from LOTR, namely Fellowship, so there is that.

For the SQUARE PARY, are you supposed to tap the button or click and hold it? Cause it seemed like my parry only took like 33% of the time.

For parrying at the least, you wanna hold it when you see the square prompt appear (this will vary depending on enemy distance from you, animation length, etc), then press circle immediately after when the circle prompt appears.

There's a place you can sleep at right next where you get hunts from. It's like 30 gil to sleep there and gives you an xp bonus. The nicer place you stay at the more xp bonus you will get. I like hoarding xp and then going to an expensive place to stay to get a 2.0 bonus.

For square you can just hold it down to remain in "defensive mode." This will also allow parries to trigger when prompts come up, don't have to let go and time press.

There are skills rewarding perfect timing on defending, but basic defense is real simple.

The way I conceptualized the combat in the Judgement demo was really just switching between defense and offense mode as opposed to thinking of it as a more reactive button mashy character action system.

W/ good use of warp for positioning and backstrike (which it seems you're already using) this should take you fairly far.

Oh yeah, this isn't particularly interesting and I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure I've spotted some Fabula Nova Crystallis leftovers so I guess that's still there in a way? So that's a fun thing to be on the lookout for if you care about that stuff. Only natural they've mostly scrapped any direct mentions really, it's generic enough if you take the names out and leave it in the background.

Say what you will about Kingsglaive but damn if it isn't the most frequently misspelled gaming word of 2016

dammit, I know what it's spelled like and I still got it wrong. Sorry Tabata. >_>

Yeah. Newspaper scene is pretty terrible tbh, so I feel like it's a decent improvement

You can probably play for a couple of hours doing side stuff and avoid getting to that scene without a patch, I know I did. Should be quick to get to if you only focus on the main quests tho

Kingsglaive is pretty awful, even going into it knowing it wasn't going to be good. It's a bad, disjointed movie with awful dialogue and that's fine, that's not unexpected, but I don't see how people think it looks amazing. The CG is very pretty in spots, but basically every frame has at least one thing in it that looks distractingly bad.

GAF, is the game worth it (for those who have played it(? I have a regular PS4 (how does it run on normal vs pro?) and I still have the "spend $100, get $15" voucher. Can't decide if I wanna pick it up now or not.

Can anyone comment on the different control schemes? I thought I read there was A, B and C? Anyone using something other than standard?

This mirrors my first two hours exactly. Not a good start at all.

I enjoyed what I played in the first hour or so but I agree the opening feels really sloppy. I feel like I'm just expected to accept the four leads are bros though I barely know them and their connections. Combat is a lot of fun but really limited in the early going.

Well...

I think this was before Cor but we had Imperial troops dropping on us. As if they already know we're alive? Then the whole end boss for Ch. 2. Just some random ass dude who knows who Cor is. Which is fine. Then into Ch. 3, we got all the baddies together. Oh the Prince is alive? Let's get him. But...you've already been trying?

First dungeon was pretty cool. Which has me excited for more of them.
