I can't believe how fast you all are flying through the game. I need to quite my jobs and just play games all day. I'm sure my wife won't mind dammit! I need more fun time!
Dont stress. I got it a week early, at 40 hours, lvl 50. Chapter 10 and lots more content to go! Wife hasn't seen me put this much time into a game in a short period since Bloodborne.
People aren't exaggerating when they say the story is a mess. I felt like I'm missing a big chunk of the story when I reached chapter 12.
Chapter 9 has a pretty great set piece, but the ending of the chapter is rubbish. I won't post it here as I don't want people to accidentaly click on the spoiler, as it is a big one.
It's just seems like we are missing tons of stuff so a lot of what happens just falls flat. For example I think the game wanted me to really feel that Chapter 9 ending but all I felt was disappointment and general "meh". I mean I had played this game for over 50 hours prior to that chapter and [Chapter 9 ending spoilers]
had seen Luna for like a total of 15 minutes. So why the hell would I care about what was happening to her or the fact that she died just as we managed to meet her?! If anything it just made the whole character and that story arc really pointless.
It was just not interesting or engaging in the least bit. Not in the mood to write up much more for now, but they continue on trying to sell this to you as
some important emotional event, among some other eyebrow rising "plot twists"
in later chapters, and it just keeps on falling on its face.
Anyway, called it a night around 10 minutes in chapter 13 but I was already asking myself "how did anyone thought this would be good idea?". Hopefully it'll get better or at least won't be that long.
Yeah, yeah, sewer levels usually suck. And this one... eh, wasn't really much of an exception. But while I was fighting Yojimbo and his gank crew, I had Gladio use Tempest and for some reason, Noctis disappeared for like 30 seconds. When he reappeared, he was getting absolutely wrecked by a giant medusa monster. I... can't even explain that one. That fight was absolute shit because they essentially made you fight this giant monster in a small closet.
I am getting some real Tales of Zestiria vibes that enemies are not meant to be fought in small spaces lest you anger the camera gods.

I'm on that path. 20 hours in and very early on Chapter 3 currently. Just doing sidequests mostly, but its a mistake. This world is lifeless, dull, and lacking any real sense of discovery for anything I do. Yet, I am compelled to press on...
FFXIII tugged at me the same way despite my better sense telling me to play something better.

Speaking which, is there a royal arm in that location? I cleared it out and beat the boss but for the life of me I couldn't find a royal arm. All I found was some
huge locked door
which I've found in other dungeons as well and I'm guessing has something to do with post game contents.
Yeah, I really enjoy the actual gameplay and interactions between the main party members. I was Lvl 61 when I finished chapter 8 and still had a lot of dungeons and hunts to go through.
Yeah, up until that point the game was not doing too much for me. Hasn't been bad, but not great either. That fight though was just awesome! I want more of that shit.

There's no royal arms in there. Your main reason for going there is because Cindy gives you a Regalia-related quest that leads you there to find a supercharger. The upgrade gives you headlights that ward off daemons at nighttime. And there is two bosses there by the way, in case you didn't know. You can meet the second one by switching on all four generators.
Holy fuck, that hunt against the 5 Coeurls might have been the worst thing I have encountered in the game so far bar none.
Instant kills everywhere. 5 giant electric leopards just dancing around offscreen, onscreen, and even clipping through each other. Framerate essentially tanking. Camera focusing on bushes or rocks rather than the party. Party AI just running head long into instant kills. Just bad, bad, bad, bad, Jesus fucking Christ. A battle system is only as good as the enemies you fight, and that one... yikes.

When's the cut off point before I can't free roam anymore? I'm in chapter 8, I wonder if I should do unfinished sidequest before I continue. Currently Level 43 while the story mission is still around 30 I think.
They should have made Airdance a default ability like in Platinum Demo.
That way your aerial ability is only limited by your MP since I think quite a few people don't even realize how fun it is to have more than one airstep. Aerial mobility is awesome with the ability to airstep all the time.
I stopped playing XII on PS2 after 15 hours back when it came out, I just couldn't get into it. But I feel like I should give it another chance after all these years, especially if they add QoL features.
XII was the end of the series, for me. But even going back to X Remaster I couldn't be arsed to go more than 20 hours in despite really enjoying that game on PS2 back in the day. Still love the PSX trilogy, though. Those games are special.
