Fishing is where it's at.

Fishing annoyed me for the first time last night. Spent so much time trying to get a Vesper Gar and having zero luck. Caught so much crap though that I leveled up 3 times in the process but every time the Gar would appear some other shitbag fish would swim to my lure instead. >.<

We need somebody to make a list of all of the items you can get outside the game:

Amazon pre-order bonuses
  • GaE Borg (FFXIV)
  • Mage Mashers (FFIX)
  • Blazefire Saber (FFXIII)
  • Golden Chocobo
  • Regalia reskin: Cindy
  • Travel Pack (reduces hotel, refueling and fast travel costs by 50%)

Yeah, I just enjoy fishing random stuff, so I don't really mind, but if it's necessary to go for specific and rare stuff later on, it might get annoying.

It's sad because I joined specifically to talk about FF. :(
Like there's never going to be some consensus there's never only going to be positivity all-around but the hyperbole the constant doom and gloom, the salt, it's too much. If you only listed this place your thoughts would be from the lead up to release ppl hated this game and that wasn't the case. Even the platinum demo had positive previews from big sites and I thought that thing sucked. Fact is game came out alright and for some reason that's a hard pill to swallow

It's clear to me now that people on here want FF to be dead and they want XIII to be the fall guy.
Of course. But Wait about a month or so and the rehab of FFXIII will become more evident (oh FFXVwas great but I actually liked FFXIII's gameplay more.....,etc).

This is pretty accurate. Having watched various streams on twitch this past week I can say for sure that the reception was positive.

At first i liked the combat system but now i really dislike it. As long as you are overpowered it is fun to do all these combos with your friends, but when you face bosses or many hard hitting enemies the whole fighting controls are so bad.

Sometimes so many enemies hitting and shooting at me at once that i'm stuck at dodging non stop. I'm like eating potions one after another from chapter 12/13 onwards.

Chapter 14:
How am i supposed to kill that crab thing at the beginning of insomnia? This thing is level ~78 and hits for 7k-9999dmg and my group is level ~43 with 3500 health. Is there a trick or something?

That sounds overly dismissive of the criticisms

There is balance to be found regarding this game but you are right on one thing

The reactive nature of this community means you have to dig for balance and respond to posters that show some semblance of reasonable argument

You aren't supposed to kill it. That thing is not in your way.

You can skip pretty much every encounter in Insomnia if you want. You only have to defeat a Behemoth King to proceed to the final battles. Every other monster is optional.

The travel pack reduces hotel, refueling and fast travel costs by 50%. You also missed the Golden Chocobo and Cindy mobile.

Honestly its the same story for jrpgs in general for me

13 and 15.. Just unsatisfying rpg mechanics but im still very early in 15 and it has some interesting layers to uncover so at the very least im just looking to get used to the game first

O don't mistake me the criticisms(at least the ones I've seen that really are sincere) are spot on. Story is so-so,camera is wacky, characters aside from the main cast aren't used enough and fleshed out. But even beyond that ppl are enjoying the game. Thats pretty cool

I'm at the start of chapter 3...I'm level 42.
I may have gone too far in a few places.
Lol what are you guys fighting that you're over level so much so early

It's really simple: Don't use camps and don't ever sleep. Just do all available sidequests at once (the ones you can at your current level), then sleep at the place that gives you 2x EXP. That should boost your level by quite a bit, then do it again with the higher level sidequests, which in turn also give more exp.
Lol you guys are monsters

I'm pretty solid on everything, I only have confusion on 2 things, both at the end of the game:

1.
What is Prompto, a daemon GM baby?

2.
Was Ardyn a King or an Oracle? He game makes him sound like the latter but then he has phantom swords and Armiger.

Those are the two plot points they messed up not being clear on the spoiler thread has answers to them

I'm lvl 25 in chapter 4 now, and I can't decide if I should spent the 10k gil on x2 exp now (I have 25k exp) or wait.

So Malmalam Thicket, how hard it is? I'm level 30 and the quest says level 35 but the way up to there wasn't that bad. I have
Iris
in my team but
she's useless.

The first one is vague and will probably be explained during Prompto's DLC.

The second one:
The game says he was the next in line for the throne succession, so he was going to be a King. However, the fact that he could heal people from the Demon disease and that he could communicate with Ifrit makes it seem he was ALSO the Oracle. Perhaps at one point the Kings and Oracles were of the same blood.

Really? She saved my butt on a couple of occasions. She's pretty good at healing Noctis.

I think there's a community thread you can participate in, should be less hostile. I also find the FFXIV thread to be a nice place.

I honestly forget about the community thread. Definitely will try to post in there more often. I stopped playing XIV because I wasn't feeling it at all but I bought Heavensward when it came out and the way people praise it on here makes me want to finish the last bits of ARR so I can see if HW is good or not.

I'm still on Chapter 3 and I can answer this:

Astrals are gods in Eos, and they're said to be slumbering, gathering power to fight the Starscourge. Luna goes around waking them up, and they lend you their power after you do whatever it is you must do for each of them. Noctis' personal interest is taking down the empire, and he needs both the strength of past kings and the gods in order to do so.

If Noctis' main goal is to fight Niflheim (Ch. 5 spoilers)
then I would expect him to try to take Ardyn hostage or something. Or attack Ravus. But Ardyn instead seems to be helping the main party, and when he runs into Ardyn at the base they just end up chatting a bit and then walking away from one another.

Like, it's clear that there's more to the motivations of the side characters than meets the eye. I wish the main cast would acknowledge that, though.

I could probably guess that Noctis wants revenge on Niflheim, and I could probably guess that the reason he's driving around the world is to get stronger so that he can enact that revenge. But that's all inference, and Noctis and co.'s actions tend to make me doubt whether my interpretation is correct, instead of reinforcing them.

Half-way through chapter 6... man I don't want this game to end, I'm slowing down fearing an end to this beautiful journey :\

Hah, I was pretty much at the same point as you in the 40's as well. The sidequests and hunts can be tedious but I can't stop. There's something addictive about it all.

Chapter 7 atm and level 57. Gonna do loads more hunts before I proceed.

The ability to farm Red Giants doesn't help my desire to overlevel to fuck before I move on either. 3k EXP a pop.

I was the exact same when I knew I was reaching end game. I honestly did not want the journey to end. The cast of characters has been the best since FFX and I really grew very fond of them.

However it was harder and harder to avoid spoilers. I even installed Chrome extensions that blocked all Final Fantasy videos using specific keywords and also a GAF extension to block threads, to prevent temptation.

I'm wondering if we can get more Jared scenes through updates. The story is too messy to be fixed at this point but they can add more hilarious stuff to it so it at least could be more self aware and just fun to watch.

Dead serious

I advise you to go through story missions while you are still not too OP. I was level 61 in chapter 8 and from there all the way till Chapter 13 was a cakewalk :(

Lmao same, I went and even got
all the Royal Arms
before advancing the story any further. Now today I'm planning on overleveling myself even more since all my distractions managed to get me 150k+ exp, I don't want it to end just yet :(

Jared doesn't need many more scenes. If they are going to add scenes for him, just make one that makes it clear WHO he is, and WHY characters are mourning him. A simple explanation on his role with the Amicitia family is enough.
