just started this on regular ps4, is it just me or is there some really bad aliasing? And hair just looks bad that its distracting? I feel like when im not moving the camera, things are fine but once i move or if characters are moving in cutscenes i start see splotches on their skin and the hair looks terrible. IOs that normal?

The splotches are subsurface scattering. The hair dithering is normal for a game with low IQ, FF13 had the same issue

As someone with absolutely no investment in Final Fantasy but interested in the combat and the weirdness of the whole thing, would you recommend this game?

Wow just had a MUCH better play session

Blink and Type C controls made everything so much better

Anyone know how to trigger hard lock on Type C?

Doesnt seem to be the map button

I really wish i could map hard lock on to one button

Is there any benefit to fishing really? Just ingredients?

Also how do you know which items to craft with your spells? Do you guys use treasures or stuff like potions? I'm afraid I'll add something to craft and then later on I find out it was needed for an upgraded weapon or something.

Seriously. I just wish for more customization of the controls in general to be honest.

Finally got chocobos! My pink Nomura is on level 4 already, he's so cute! :D

Did some of the chocobo quests as well, so now I have to go back to Leide, which is perfect, since I have some quests to finish there, and I wanted to go back to see if I can take on more hunts and try to fight the Bandersnatch. I'll do it tomorrow.

33 hours in, still didn't meet Iris. Please understand, Gladio.

Already had to delete pictures because of the 150 limit :CCC

Going through them to see which ones to delete was such a blast, though. I was laughing out loud remembering some of the moments. This game is great.

ok Better or Worse than Xenoblade X?

They both suffer from story issues, but honestly Xenoblade Chronicles X felt like the better game to me.

XbX while missing a few beats with the story, it at least told a coherent plot where you weren't constantly having to read between the lines because scenes clearly got it. While the side quest objectives were typical, the story and reasons for doing them were really quite good.

Combat system, I like both, but both have their issues, so I couldn't really say which I find better.

That's not to say it does everything better mind. There is some stuff which XV shines, but I don't think it's enough to make it better than XbX.

How do I pass the time for this Ultima Blade? I killed Adamantoise for christ's sake, among many other things, and Cid still doesn't have it ready...

I finally beat the post game dungeon
Pitioss Ruins
. It was pretty challenging. I actually had to look up where to go after activating the goddess statue because I didn't see any path after that. That dungeon was extremely intricately designed, and the item at te end seems pretty good along with the tens of great items you get in it. Now to tackle the hidden key dungeons

Just finished Chapter 13. I actually thought it was really cool for the most part because I wasn't expecting anything like that in the game. The problem is that it just went on for soooo fucking long. Don't know why they decided to make it longer than every other chapter in the game. It had a lot of interesting ideas that you ultimately get tired of as it goes on. The beginning and end are fantastic, though.

So damn excited to go on and finish the game. Have to go out with friends so I have to leave off there, but I'll be thinking about this game the whole time.

I feel like what you describe was actually the original plan.

Luna's CGI death scene has no real weight to its imagery since all you've ever seen or heard of these super important flowers is one in a book from 12 years ago and a throwaway line that Noctis and Luna picked them as kids.

Just to add to this:
You also see the flowers in front of a radio on chapter 2, and if you listen to it, they say that people everywhere are holding these to pay homage, as it's a typical flower from Tenebrae, and they're paying their respects where they were supposed to show her wedding dress, in Altissia.

This flower is seen as a repesentation of the Oracle in all of Eos.

There are a couple more audio entries on Luna after she's reported dead at the end of Chapter 1, one of them being a past-interview kind of thing that they always show again when someone important dies. I thought it was pretty neat. I saw the flowers and listened to all of them in the Hunter HQ, but I don't think it's exclusive to that place, it probably just appears in front of every radio until you listen to it or move to the next chapter.

Hunts and then sleep. I just did the very first hunt in the game 4 times, slept at the van in Hammerhead and it was ready.

Do sidequests lead to dungeons or are most of them just to be found by yourself?

In most cases there's a quest which will lead you to a dungeon, yes. That said it's not like have to get to it via a quest. You can still find the entrances and do them on your own. Going inside the dungeon tends to give you the "complete the dungeon" side quest.

Is this a glitch or something? I'm in the middle of chapter 5 and the option to summon my chocobo is grayed out. I restarted the game but it still won't work. And yes I have days available to rent

Chapter 12:

wait.. We don't get to explore tenebrae?? Like at all?

The last half of the game is seriously so weird.

Yeah, seems like such an obvious setup for
extra dungeon or combat scenario where you helped people evacuate or something. maybe more backstory on Ravus there too etc

I guess they really ran out of money or time

I guess. I'm about to
board the train again and nothing really happened at tenebrae.. Feels like I'm missing something I should be doing here lol

I'm kinda frustrated bc that was the one place I really wanted to explore. It looked so pretty in the trailers.

Post Game is healing a lot of the wounds chapters 9-13 left on me.

It's been a really long time since I actually felt a desire to do post game stuff in a FF.

I'm doing the secret dungeon right now and i'm pretty amazed that they put something like this in.

Prompto: "My perfectly groomed hair!" on a windy day. LOL.

I love how even they poke fun at the series' conventions.

Wait.. Chapter 12 again:

Is Ravus dead too? I read something about that in a random newspaper on the train. I knew he was sentenced to execution but didn't think it would actually happen off screen...?

The last half of the game is confusing me more and more. What happened here? 😞😳

yea, a lot of stuff happens off screen. Good news is that they will be patching in some cutscenes to flesh out stuff.

That's good... I guess. I just feel like they could have handled the story way better without these things happening off screen. Reading about something like that in a paper is bizarre especially bc it could be easily missed by the average player. Plus,
I wanted to fight him. He's just like that woman in ffxiii.. Potential but never realized or got to fight her either. Jihl or something?

ok Better or Worse than Xenoblade X?

Well, in terms of the open world and exploration, I prefer Xenoblade X by far. Your main character moved around like the fucking Terminator and it was pretty speedy. Less restrictive in where you can go too (unlike XV, you technically could swim to the hardest continent and explore around in Xenoblade X if you really want to get your ass kicked). And sorry Regalia, I would take a giant fucking robot any day of the week. The areas in Xenoblade X were way better too, more diverse, and actually had environmental hazards in addition to diverse enemies.

Story-wise, pick your poison between a story that has very good highs but was definitely rushed faster than a college freshman's English essay paper (XV), or a story that is so blatant of a sequel hook that it seems like it steals more from Prometheus than taking hints from its own goddamn predecessor (Xenoblade X).

But Xenoblade X kept me entertained for 80 hours while XV kept me entertained for about 45, so I guess Xenoblade is better IMO?
