That's good... I guess. I just feel like they could have handled the story way better without these things happening off screen. Reading about something like that in a paper is bizarre especially bc it could be easily missed by the average player. Plus,
I wanted to fight him. He's just like that woman in ffxiii.. Potential but never realized or got to fight her either. Jihl or something?

Keep playing the game. I would say the ending payoff is worth it.

I'm at the final battle.

When I finish and if it and ending are good, I plan on thoroughly detailing my very subjective experience with this game, how I approached it, how I played it, how I paced myself and how I juggled the side quests and main scenario-- and ultimately why I think it's incredible despite totally agreeing with the haphazard storytelling at certain stretches.

Please look forward to it.

I really want to read your impressions.

I'm eager to read it. Dive into the post game too.

got the platinum at around 68 hours and around the same level, super easy trophies which was surprising but the optional trophy related lvl 99 hunt was so disappointing, I thought it'd be awesome but it was just a chore that posed 0 threat and took an hour to beat while watching podcasts :/

overall I found the game really enjoyable, obviously needed an extra year in the cooker for the story though, which is frustrating because the groundwork is all there for something amazing but the way it unfolded was a mess, main antagonist salvaged it somewhat by being pretty great at least and I liked the ending.

thank god I watched the kingsglaive movie before playing on the advice I'd read here though

So I'm stuck in Deadeye's lair and I can't get out. I did the quest where you have to take a picture of the chocobo. I'm trying to take the exit at the end but I just slide and get stuck. Can't warp anywhere either. Anyone know if there's a way to fix this without going back to an old save?

Post credit scene spoiler.
I shed some tears at that scene. It really made me appreciate all the the guys went through together. I honestly don't think I've connected so much with FF main characters.

It made me feel bad that the rest of the story made no sense... I still loved the game though...

It did the same to me man, but we're getting additional story stuff outside if the major DLCs, so we could get a pretty serviceable story by the end if all this.

I know it would have been better with all that stuff at release, but it's great knowing they are already acknowledging some of the lack of exposition for some events.

I love both. Both has their flaws and strength.

I like the gameplay/battle in X more though. Both has epic journeys and worlds.

That's my suck ass opinion.

Opinions I guess, and you might get a biased response in this thread, but I prefer FFXV by a lot more.

Way, way, way better. But YMMV.

They both suffer from story issues, but honestly Xenoblade Chronicles Xing felt like the better game to me.

.

Way, WAY better than XBX.
Thanks.XenoX was a good game but with lots of iffy stuff

ok Better or Worse than Xenoblade X?

IMO - better in nearly every way.

Both suffer from similar issues though. Quantity over quality, but with FFXV, it didn't feel like an absolutely unnecessary slog for 3/4 of the game. And if I was sick of wandering the world in FFXV I could easily advance the story. In XCX you are often forced to meet arbitrary criteria to move further in the story.

opinions though.

Is there a way to craft spells so they do not inflict friendly fire? I don't think I've ever cast a spell that didn't severely harm a few of my bros.

No, magic can basically carry you through encounters, so there needs to be a trade off.

Magic shouldn't do that much damage to then if your not making it super OP.

So is the awful framerate in the city a known thing? I've just been playing in the open world (ch 3 still) and drove to the smaller city on the left side of the map and the framerate probably hit 10 fps multiple times. (PS4 Pro)

I couldn't beat the
Demon Wall in the grove dungeon before getting kicked out
and I'm level 99 with some good equipment. Hmmm. Guess I'll try spamming Quintcast magic next time.

I feel framepacing gets worse in Lestallum, but DEFINITELY not 10fps.

Hmm. PS4 Pro on high visuals doesn't have the best framerate to begin with (probably 25-35 on average) but certain spots in the city were almost slideshow levels of bad. Weird thing is, I turned a corner and it got better. Also weird, I turned visuals to low (or whatever the performance mode is) and still had the issues.

Maybe it was a bug, I'll have to jump back on tomorrow and check.

So I'm on chapter 3, probably done way too many side quests and have a few questions....

1) Are random encounter enemies scaling to my level?
2) How does magic work? Is it just the elemancy tinkering?
3) Should I be leveling cooking? Where do I even go to cook?
4) My party keeps getting knocked out forcing me to use a lot of hi-potions, is this normal? Some of them seem to suck at not getting trapped in a swarm lol
5) What should I spend my AP on first?

I'm level 30ish

It was probably a bug. I'm not sensitive to frame pacing so I played the whole game on "high" setting and never experienced any significant framerate issues...

I have to say, the tech powering this game is mindblowing.

The summons are some of the most impressive shit thus entire gen.

Lighting is amazing, draw distance and sense of scale are ridiculous.

Never experienced that myself. Definitely nowhere near 10.

Preach brother, the moment the game started and I saw the draw distance, I was like wtf man! On a damned base ps4. Makes the the world look way more massive than it is. Just Stunning vistas sometimes. Puts my personal favorite fantasy land Touissant to shame sometimes. Even though Tou has more story, character and things to do in it.

1) No.
2) You absorb magic and then craft spells using the Elemancy screen. You can use catalysts to change the effects of the magic.
3) You can only cook at camp. You don't really need to level it unless you want the platinum. You gain recipes through finding them, not through levels.
4) The other characters, it's a bit unavoidable since they often do stupid shit. If you pick up Regroup for Ignis on the ascension grid, you can use that to move people out of the way/restore their health. In terms of Noctis, you just need to be a bit smarter with positioning. You need to create space for yourself, so you aren't being attacked from all sides. Also of course making sure you make use of dodging and parrying.
5) As mentioned above, Regroup is pretty crucial.
