I've just finished The Last Guardian and this was always the next game on my list. Now it's been out for a little while; how are people's feelings about it now and how long is it start to finish? My plan is to pick this up on Monday (19th) and play for my 2 week Christmas Break. I loved the first demo (Episode Duscae) and decided to not play anymore after that one, so pretty pumped to jump into the full game in another week or so.

Finished Ch. 13. That's what people are wailing and gnashing their teeth over? It wasn't a high point, but I found it painless. Took me about an hour and a half. Some interesting story revelations. I found the altered tools available 100% adequate for breezing through the dungeon. Noct was level 55.
Seriously, threw some magic increasing accessories on, and dodge holy was enough to take out most of the enemies with ease. Alterna, I.e., best FF spell since VI ultima, easily handled the rest, and magic recovers on holy dodges, so no problem with the mp cost. I got the glaive within probably half an hour, which made things even easier. Were people trying to stealth it? My biggest complaint is that Ardyn's taunting seemed out of place because I was cleaning house with ease. Oh and Prompto is an MT? Uh... ok.
.

I totally get that it won't be everyone's favorite part, but the idea that this is a uniquely bad piece of game design so egregious that it negates other higher points in the game is comical.

So far 14 is rad, although, like everything in this game,
the transition to it is week.

Has anyone enountered the same bugs in Chapter 13?

Got stuck in a door and had to reset game cause I couldn't get out.
After a while, an enemy couldn't do any damage to me for some reason.

Worst off, in the Foras fight, he teleports out of the battle arena with no way to get to him or to get him back in, forcing me to start over again. Unless it's intentional and I'm missing something?

This is the first time I've ever encountered a bug in this game and they all come in this one chapter lol.

Edit: Well, great I have to fight the Iron Giant again. I think I'm done for the night ugh.

I had the second one.

For the iron Giant...well...
Use the ring to make him disappear :)

I did it! I finished Chapter 13!

Man, what an awful, awful incredibly long never ending section that was.

I have no idea what is going on with the story, really. I just want this game to end. It's a massive disappointment, and by far my least favorite Final Fantasy.

Can you at least save during chapter 13? I guess you can, but with no saves in dungeons it wouldn't surprise me if you couldn't.

Some of us have family SE, it would have been nice to save if I have to put the game down at short notice and not be locked into an hour+ dungeon.

Yes, it has plenty of rooms to rest in

Yeah, you can save at the beds. There are quite a few of them.

Yeah. There's resting checkpoints which do an auto save.

You can always "return to entrance" from the map option, and then save. Progress is saved as you go and stuff you kill does not respawn. The only downside to this is if a dungeon can only be accessed at night-time, but if you just need to bail rapidly this isn't such an issue.

Wow, that will come in handy, thanks.

Holy crap. Chapter 9 stuff.

Watchinf YouTube videos of the Leviathan fight and it's crazy how different people's experience with it was to me. I had Noct go super saiyan within like a minute of starting the battle but I've seen people struggle for 20 minutes + before getting it to trigger.

Glad it happened the way it did for me - it was pretty enjoyable.

I also hate that you lose health when you use one of the Armiger swords. Game design wise and narratively I know WHY they chose to do this, but in practice it just feels super un-fun and unrewarding to have a bunch of cool weapons (that you have to scour dungeons to earn) that you can't truly enjoy because they are killing you.

When this finally comes out on PC and someone makes a patch for it, that will be the first thing I'll be installing.

Maybe if you rush through the game and just want the platinum. But if you play it as intended and do post-game stuff, you won't have any issue with it.

My level is already close to 9 for Survival and I have a lot to do still, so I am sure maximizing that level won't be an issue.

I disagree. I'm taking WAY more than my sweet time with the game (level 32 and have just started Ch3), and still think it's a dumb move. When the options are to drive, take a chocobo or run, it's a waste of time to run everywhere. There are better ways to implement his surivival skill increase than to run for 20 hours.

Were you a high level? The transition is based on how much damage you do with warp strikes. Took a few minutes at around level 30

I'm going to tell you right now that you were insanely overleveled for that part
which makes holy not very feasible at lower levels, and those enemies can do decent damage even to higher leveled folks
. You can take on the final boss in like the upper 30s.

Trying to get tons of Gil so I can buy the cool car upgrades in Lestallum. I need about 12,000 Gil.... Time for more side quests again!

I'm on Chapter Ten now.
Disappointed there's not a special scene for using Cup Noodles in the mine where it cheers everyone up.

9 was fun, but obviously I wish the boss fight was outsourced to Platinum Games and the events were actually set up properly.

The XB1 version definitely has some framerate drops in the city.

I was ridiculously high leveled with an ultima weapon. Took quite a while. I made the mistake of meleeing though. The ranged blasts were doing way more damage
.

bad gameplay lol

There really should have been a post-game accessory that allows you to use the Royal Arms without penalty. Or even 50% of the usual HP loss.

How often should I be using the Royal Arms?
i have two so far, and I just never equip them because of HP loss, I figured it's best to use them later when I have more HP to lose.

R.E combat in general: I really love it in XV, it's such an incredible step up, it's very challenging but also very rewarding, I noticed in most challenging battles there's always a period I get utterly destroyed for a while and then slowly my team starts to overcome and then destroy the enemy, really fun.

Guys I need some help getting this Sturdy Helix Horn. Starting to think my game is bugged. I ate the meals equipped the weapons and I break every single Duplicorn or whatever their names are. At this point when I break them I don't even get anything. Anyone know how to fix this or is it realy such a low drop rate that you most of the times get nothing when their horns break off?

I didn't use the Royal Arms once, as soon as you get the first and it says you'll lose health if you use them I figured I wasn't supposed to. Just used Engine Blade for the entire game.

I only equip them for the great stat boosts, i dont actually use them in combat

I personally only kept Royal Arms for the stat boosts. Specifically, the Axe of the Conqueror gives you pretty good stats in everything that matters for most of the game (Strength and Vitality). The other weapons range between situational (for certain elemental resistances), mediocre, or just flat out garbage (the shield would be nice but that -100 strength is brutal). The last Royal Arm you get in the story has some pretty balanced stat buffs and a decent moveset.

In terms of actually using something like the Axe, I would just use it when an enemy is stunned or something for a shitload of free damage, then heal up and switch to something else once it gets up.

Once you complete the Engine Blade III quest, you'll find that the weapon you get from it is going to far outclass anything you can get until you start doing the Sealed Dungeons in the post game (and even then, I think it's still the best short sword in the game).

When I fought Ravus and got him down to about 70% health Noctis became invincible after a warp strike. Ravus killed everyone but couldn't damage Noctis at all while I killed him with holding the "O" button only. Bug or not, good times!
Oh yeah, Eff chapter 13!! It nearly ruined the game for me. It just went way too long. It might've been fine if it was a whole lot shorter.

I feel like the ability to sprint would almost fix chapter 13 for most people.
I loved it as it is, but my tastes are weird already so I'm willing to believe that people hated it for a good enough reason

You can safely equip Royal Arms even just for the stat boosts.

So I found Hunters HQ, which had some good weapon upgrades for Ignis and Noct, but Prompto is still sitting around with a Mythril gun and... not really pulling his weight.

Gladdy is using a weapon I found on the ground (Thunderhilt? Driving in-game right now), so he's doing alright, but I'd like to get a non-elemental weapon if possible. Are there any good shops for weapon upgrades for Prompto and Gladdy?

That thunder weapon you've found is one of the best in the game for sale, as far as I remember and I used it through to the end of the game.
You'll find the "best" weapons at shops starting at chapter 9 I believe.
Be sure to set prompto up with a good secondary arm. Other than that make sure you've unlocked the strength and magic stats up with level in the ascension menu. It's something I've seen people miss.

Just done with chapter 13 and I enjoyed it. Best chapter in a while honestly. Chapters 10-12 were pointless and forgettable.

Chapter 13 did indeed play a little like a PS1 or PS2 era level but I didn't mind at all. It was focused, it had good story bits and interesting mechanics. Took me about 2:20h to finish which I didn't find excessive. Y'all kids must have started gaming with the 360.

Ah, okay. I'm still in Chapter 8. Probably move forward at some point.

Prompto is using the upgraded Bioblaster as his secondary arm. Liking it so far. And I got Strength and Vitality upgrades, as well as level 2 Health upgrades from Status. Didn't get the magic one since I mostly only use magic with Noct. Does that impact any other damage?

(right now thinking about grinding the AP to get Noct his 3rd accessory slot, but that Health Level III is also tempting. 600+ HP? Thanks!)
