The events in the chapter are so rushed and set up haphazardly that I can understand anyone being confused. I sure was.
I'm still not sure what to make of the scene where Luna is threatened by gunpoint. Who were these soldiers? The empire hadn't arrived yet, right? Was she being forced to do the summoning?

they wait until the actual summoning to start evacuating people, even though they know it's going to happen days in advance.
I actually have a lot of positive things to say about that chapter (compared to everything that's come before it, at least). I'll try to write them up later.

If there was ever a game that needed a way to toggle the HUD in-game, it's FFXV. It's like I'm playing a different game! I'd kill for them to let you have that instead of the worthless auto-sprint.
Ardyn's motivations are unclear at best at the moment. I'm sure this is something which will become a bit clearer later on.
The ring and crystal are both set up and explained in Kingsglaive. Probably will be expanded on later on in the game too.
Empire attack Altissa because it broke its neutrality in aiding the Oracle and the King of Lucis. They are also trying to kill all the Archaeons to stop the King from gaining their power, which we already saw with Titan. Ravus has ulterior motives in trying to protect the Oracle, his sister, from Leviathan and the toll the covenant has on her (I assume she was always fated to die in order to grant the King power).
Yes some parts were rushed, but the main story beats are really not that confusing.
As someone who has never had the slightest bit of interest in Final Fantasy as a series, I decided to give this a shot and its so GOOD.
I was actually surprised once the world opened up in Chapter 3 since I didn't follow the development of this game at all and thought the "open world" was just the hub from the first two chapters. Now I'm tearing it up on top of Chocobos and fighting everything I find.
I even dislike Anime in general and that overall style of character design, but this game hasn't really bothered me at all in that regard.

So far I'm enjoying this game quite a bit. The story pacing is really weird but I guess I still like what's happening. The biggest two story aspects that felt really off was in Chapter 1 and 6
The attack and death of Regis and then the Jared death. I honestly thought the kid had died and then he walked in the room which made me pause and think "..who the fuck died then....ohhhhhh the old dude....and I'm supposed to care why?"
My favourite part so far is playing VIII tracks in specific area's that match them. When I'm fishing, Fishermans Horizon(it stops once I start actually fishing which sucks) or Find Your Way in caves and Blue Fields while I'm driving.
Just finished the game. I hope the next entry they develop a game around a strong central narrative. As fun as this open world design can be, it never reached the highs of the best entries in the series. If XIII was way too linear, this swung wildly in the opposite direction. What's unfortunate is chapter 13 showed what could have been as far as the world design and the cool tonal shift. Kind of bittersweet, feels like the lost Final Fantasy in regards of what could have been.
OK, I was planning to write a long post on my assessment of the game but I see many others have the thoughts as I do so I'll just keep it short.
I find the game just slightly above average. The story made me go "dafuq" alot of times. After I was done the story I had the read through some of the posts in the spoiler thread to understand the story better. I never played a Final Fantasy game where I ended up so confused with the plot and had to go to a gaming forum for some clarifications. Consequently, I didn't even care much about the ending. It's a good effort, I guess.
The battle system is alright. I rarely used any magic during the story mission. I tried a few spells early in the game but the fact that they had a long lingering effect on my bros made me not want to magic for the rest of the game, lol.
There really isn't much strategic effort needed for the game. Most of the time I would just circle around enemies, warp strike, do a few slashes, and repeat.
Not sure if I will replay the game after the story patch (lol). Don't want to go through chp. 13 again (ugh..). I'll see what GAF's impression on this I guess.

Agreed. People are saying the battle system requires you do get interesting with it... it really doesn't.
Not sure how they can make Chapter 13 a viable thing without redoing the actual content. It's a very dumb choice and seems to be nothing more than a 2 hour timesink between chapters 12 and 14. Also, Chapter 14 made me a bit angry thanks to
The battle system does a brilliant job of making certain Ascension upgrades REALLY make a difference (and in that respect it's the best leveling system since FFX) but it's hard to feel that tactical choices during battle matter and it's hard to feel like there's any pre-battle setup customization that really matters (outside of giving Noctis some Royal Arms that give him the right stat boosts).

I also liked how the Ascension grid system is categorized in different groups, unlike in X and XIII where you start at one point and progress linearly.
Beat the game and got the platinum. I enjoyed most of my time with the game. Read the complaints regarding a certain chapter and thought to myself it probably isn't that bad. Boy, was I wrong. Waaaayy too long IMO. Spent the last two hours getting the last trophy I needed.
Stupid Adamantoise and its 5+ million health. You're gonna make a nice meal.
It's an 8 for me. I had a ton of fun with the game. Loved the combat and the brotherhood. Supporting cast could have been written better (looking at Luna). That one chapter though is terrible. Just wanted to get that part over with.
Still got the sealed dungeons to do. Looking forward to doing that over the next couple of days.

Then I think you talk to a food vendor more inside the city about the meat. Then you'll know where to go from there. Pretty easy since I did it in ch. 8
I'm doing a lot of sidequests and hunts and driving around and whatever, I'm in Chapter 3, 15 hours, level 26. I see people talking about beating the story by that time and I'm like lol

I'm not even super high level, I'm on 36, I think. I just really enjoy that world and characters.
Whoever beat this game without taking their JoJo picture with the Catoblepas doesn't know happiness.
Speaking of which, that thing is actually scary as fuck. A few days ago I was swimming with the chocobo and got close to it, and it noticed me and got really close. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

Level 54, 52 hours in, still in chapter 3. Got about 140k XP saved up. Ran out of hunts to get me to rank 6. Started finding dungeons, came across one that's maybe above my current level. Couldn't progress any further and I was basically tapped out of downs and elixirs so I left.
