Got the plat. Despite all the issues with the story, I love the game a lot. It deserves all the flak it's getting and I hope Square listens for next time. My biggest hope is that the patches and DLC make the story somewhat alright cause the potential is there. Add in another small open world and that would be swell. I have to go to work soon but tonight I'm gonna finally dive into the secret dungeon which I purposely saved for last, after that I'm gonna call it quits. I already bought the season pass but I'm not gonna dive in until the last update which I'm gonna expect from a year from now. Hopefully it'll make the game better for it.

See ya, FFXV-GAF. It was quite the ride. I'll pop in every once in awhile.

Honestly with the way you respawn instantly when you fall it never really was a problem, the only tricky part was when the camera went 2D but that's it. Using the "force walk" by going in defensive mode helps a lot (and it reminded me of Tomb Raider...Well the whole dungeon is a better Tomb Raider game than the recent Tomb Raider games...).

Force walk?

I really don't get why some people think landing the Type-F is hard, I haven't a crash yet, even when landing on the strip near Pitios, in the dark.

As for Pitios, I liked the idea of it just needed tighter controls to make it work. Less roll on landing and maybe make it so that the guard walk won't let you go over an edge.

out of everything so far the battle system is the worst aspect of the game. Not lnly is it a far too simple hack and slash (i mean the skill tree is downright barren) it also has one of the worst cameras I have seen in a game like this. Kingdom Hearts 1 is maybe worse but thats certainly a low bar.

even Witcher 3s combat felt better than this

I'll just have to respectfully disagree. I agree that it has issues with the camera, especially it tight spaces but I am having more fun with this battle system than I did with The Witcher 3.

I'm onto Chapter 5 now, some great set pieces in the preceding chapter.

I can see where some complaints about the story come from, it's a bit disjointed in its presentation, the stuff with Giratina(sp?) happened really suddenly and I was lost for a few moments, but then I read between the lines.

Chapter 4/5 spoilers:
My understanding is that Luna is going around awakening the gods one by one so that Noctis can claim their power
, though I'm not sure about
Ardyn's intentions, why did he escort me to the Disc and let me gain both the Royal relic and Titan's favour?

I have 30 hours on the clock, I'll probably step away from the plot and do some more sidequests once I have the Regalia back!

Okay guys just tell me this:

I LOVE kingdom hearts battle system. The storyline is beyond stupid but the battle is so amazingly good. This game looks like a good storyline mixed with that battle system. Am I right or should I dial my expectations back a little?

You'll see why that dude does what he does. He has his own agenda

The combat is more similar to action games akin to DMC/Bayo/NG, etc.

No where near as complex, but still more in that direction.

Dial back a little. While the combat looks cool in video, all you're really doing is either holding down the attack button or dodge button for 90% of the fights with some warp strikes and party techs inbetween.

Story is... kinda all over the place.

You ain't seen shit. Ch 9 about broke me. Good luck.

Just finished Ch 9.
WTF is with Ardyn stabbing Luna? Did he even have a motivation for doing that? I mean I've been absolutely terrible at following the story up to this point so forgive me if I'm clueless about some of the motivations of these characters, but he really didn't seem like he had a reason to do that. Especially since Luna was helping Noctis take the Leviathan's power and Ardyn seemed like he wanted Noctis to have the gods' power earlier too... Came out of nowhere and felt a little ridiculous.

That said, they really went for it in that chapter and I admired the spectacle of it all. The battle with Leviathan was pretty kickass. And the way they handled the aftermath of Luna's death was definitely one of the better parts of the game.

Just finished Chapter 9. Can't say I'm surprised.
I said I wanted a tragedy, and that's what I got. lol, Basically everything I feared about Luna came to pass. I guess Tabata really wants her to be Aerith 2.0... except, you know, to make it more affective it sure would've been nice to actually see Luna for more than TWO MINUTES. She didn't even get an in-game scene with her brother for fuck's sake!
*deep breath, collects self*
I thought the last scene between her and Noct was beautifully done though, and I'm frankly shocked that it got me emotional despite seeing so little of Luna. I think I was more sad for Noct's sake than anything else though.

Start of Chapter 10 question:
Just heard on the radio that Ravus was executed. Is that seriously going to be the last time he's ever seen or mentioned?

Edit: lol apparently I have a twin

Cool thanks, I'm still all over this. First Final Fantasy game I've been excited for since... X

There's more to combat than that. If you want to play it well you'll need to actually pay attention to timing and priorities targets and make sure you're using the right tool and positioning etc...

Much better than KH imo.

KH's storyline, although convoluted to hell, is still better than this game's. At least there's some degree of emotional impact and charm in those games, although everyone is Sora and everyone is Xehanort.

Itt plays nothing like these games. It's more a hybrid of turn based and real time. If you try to play it like a pixel precise action game you'll find it incredibly awkward.

I'm on chapter 10 now. The radio didn't say he was executed, it said he is going to be. So he's not dead yet, doubt it's the last we've seen of him.

I'm on my way to get the Platinum, only missing a few trophies including the
Adamantoise
fight

I've heard that the fight can be up to 2 hours due to its massive HP, but what would be a nice level to beat it in a decent amount of time? (let's say around 30-45 minutes). I'm level 50 atm but I'm hoarding experience to use in the Altissia hotel, so I think I can reach level 80 or so easily

Any other tips to beat it quicker?

The combat has potential but it doesn't handle mobs very well, it's difficult to deal with crowd control effects and the camera is terrible. It really shines with melee only enemies but even then it can easily devolve into mess. I don't think that dropping the healer archetype particularly benefits the game either. This isn't an action game where you can consistently avoid all damage. You're gonna take hits and if it wasn't for how oddly liberal the game is about healing items people would be spending a long time looking at loading screens.

Hard lock on and better camera work would go a long way if they ever implemented those.

I just beat him in like 20 minutes. Try to get a large amount of strength (around 700-999). Get the strongest daggers in the game. Eat a meal with guaranteed crit hits. Use Ignis's Enhancement ability. Go to town on its legs.

The fuck is up with the random ass jump in level requirement with
Ravus?

And you can't just load a previous save or something while mid fight so I can go level up somewhere? This is dumb.

The devs fucking
split the entire group up this long, and expect the other group members to be anywhere near leveled high enough for this?

Oh okay, guess I misheard. So weird though,
we get a scene between Ardyn and Ravus at the beginning of chapter 9 with Ardyn suggesting Ravus wants to protect Luna, then we see no sign of him when all hell breaks loose. I guess Ardyn might've intervened to keep him from getting in the way, but if so that's something that should be shown rather than inferred.

Edit: whoops, top of the page. Chapter 9/10 spoilers

You know, I figured breaking the damage cap and then concentrating on huge hits (i.e. warpstriking the eye) was the best idea.

Of course, ignoring the damage cap and instead buffing out the nose and then chipping away at his feet seems far more elegant.

Do treasure items and food spots refresh on the map? I went through the first area and got everything shown by the tipster. Come back a day later and I could have sworn I have gotten all these things but the spots are gold.

I find it incredibly easy to deal with crowds. It's also very possibel to mitigate damage almost entirely even in the largest brawls.

In the majority of fights there's absolutely no need for your teammates to be dying often, or you popping curatives like candy.

There are plenty of ways to achieve this. It becomes a problem in enclosed spaces when the camera gets messy, when your view is obscured by things like trees, or fighting huge enemies where there vulnerable points being numerous can causes targeting issues.

Lock on is a bit awkward, but you can learn how to make it work without fumbling.

Feels like I'm playing a completely different game to some of you.

I unlocked the best sprint... it cost a huge 99AP.... I have no shame. I also have the Stamina bar on. I still have no shame.

!!!!!! Man, those quests where you have to find stuff in an area is so annoying. One of Sonia's quests involve finding frogs around a pond and it took me FOREVER to find them.

I also lost to Prompto in my 1st Chocobo race. I haven't raced or used a Chocobo ever again. Lol

I dont know what im doing wrong but im getting so frustrated im ready to shelve this game for good. Im only in chapter 2, level 12 or so, im sure im doing something wrong.

When the army guys randomly drop from overhead we go into battle and like 5 or 6 of them just blast us from far away with their guns and kill everyome so fast i end up doing the fight myself. What am i doing wrong?

My team was fine with the fight at that point and I was only level 40.

Yeah, they refresh. Don't bother going through them if all you want is completion.

I mean, you can play it as complex as you like but the matter of fact is, the game has a very shallow path of least resistance when it comes to combat.

Use magic. Hit them just as they land.

Have you been leveling Teamwork nodes?

Even if it does it doesn't matter. I've played for 60 hours and the combat is still a blast. There's plenty to mix up during encounters, and playing well to mitigate all damage is always a thrill.

It's great.
