I'd also recommend watching Kingsglaive after you do chap 1.

Chap 1 takes place pretty much 'during' the timeline of Kingsglaive.

If you watch that first you'll know what happens in chap 1 before it happens

Alright will do. Still gotta kill some time though so I guess I'll finish brotherhood

After playing the game for a while, I even restarted it for that reason (and for the full Crown Patch), I feel many are actually doing the storytelling an injustice when they say it is too sparse or there's hardly any background info about anything.
When you listen to your bros (you have to explore a lot because some of their conversations are triggered at certain spots on the map or doing certain quests), talk to NPCs, overhear chatting NPCs, listen to the radio, do certain side quests and make sure to sleep once at every camp (for optional cutscenes and even more side quests) Eos and the characters are so much more fleshed out.
You just really have to go with open eyes and ears through this world. Many reviewers certainly rushed through the game in 30 hours or less and were bound to miss a lot of stuff. Even I did at first. When I restarted the game and was more aware, there was so much more I learned.
In my first playthrough I missed Prompto's heartwarming talk with Noctis and Luna taking care of the sick. Imo important character building scenes.
I feel though they really shouldn't have made these scenes optional but mandatory when you play. :/

I can vouch for this kind of style of Storytelling as well I'm on chapter 6 and at 21 hours and I've been exploring and doing side quests as much as possible and I picked up on so many little details from the guys and PCs radio chatter Exedra that I felt it's really built the world up and pulled me into the store and more but all these things too easily be missed if not taking time it's still a fault of the game that some of these things are optional but it really does reward the player 4 exploration and observation.

...but at the same time, it runs without any frame pacing issues at all. It looks much smoother in motion than the PS4/PS4 Pro version.
At this stage I'm used to the Xbox having lower resolutions in general so it's good to hear the gameplay is at least smooth.

Is there going to be a DF video comparing the Xbox to PS4/Pro?

Can enemies be scanned for weaknesses only in wait battle mode?

I played just a little this morning and during that time it seemed like it. I think I'd prefer active mode if it wasn't for this.

Actually play chapter 1 unti you finish Dino's quest and go to sleep.

See I'd have preferred to have seen The Characters reaction in game and THEN go back and watch 'how' the events unfold.

What you are suggesting is like watching Star Wars right up until the point Vader says he's Lukes father - stopping it and watching the prequel trilogy - then coming back to it - knowing what is about to come

Are they for real with this Cindy character? The first female you meet and she has a visible thong and cleavage.
they got a lot of feedback from european demo players saying that her design was bad and they just ignored it lmao

they legit claimed that she wasn't designed to be a sexy character. uhhh

also the first black npc that you encounter has a criminal backstory

ayyy

I'm agree guy with Disagree Guy. Works better that way.

Worst thing is her father is RIGHT THERE

This was the moment for me. I got access to the Chocobos and started running across the beautiful fields of Duscae and had this moment of pure bliss. At this moment I got this feeling that this game was very special. I've waited so many years for this game and this moment right here makes it all worth it. Having an amazing time with the game.

The black NPC in the Hammerhead Diner looks way too much like Forest Whitaker. I may be crazy.

I think I disagree. In such a huge map, more story beats and lore information are one of the best possible rewards for exploration. If only the mandatory path had story-relevant stuff, it wouldn't be as fun as it is to just go out and do your thing. Why would I make sure to listen to the radio every time I walk into a diner if nothing of value will be there, and every story-relevant thing will appear in the main quest?

I don't mind the fetch quest nature of the sides because the gameplay is a lot of fun to me, and what it lacks in small stories for each quests in the vein of The Witcher, it makes up for with world building that adds to the main story.

The Ignis cooking minigame was something straight out of Brotherhood, and what made me want to camp at every possible location. Why would I do that if these scenes had no chance of appearing?

By the way, tried to fight the Bandersnatch, gave up very quickly, wasn't doing much damage at all, haha.

Now I gotta work, unfortunately there's some stuff I have to do and couldn't take the whole day off, but I'm excited to continue exploring after I get back home. Next stop is Hammerhead again, do some more things before heading to Galdin Quay.

7 hours so far.

As I said days ago in some past FF XV thread, this style is kind of like FF VI, which I really kind of love. It makes you want to play again, as you might always find something new to shed new light on the story or characters.
It's true though that VI probably did this better. But I like the nod towards that open ended style.

Just tried it multiple times, skipping and not skipping the tutorial at the start of the game to be sure.

Do tutorial = frame pacing issues
Skip tutorial = no issues at all.

Seems like the tutorial screws something up.

TBH it doesn't bother me regardless, as I'm not sensitive to things like this. I actually have to look for it, but for those that find it annoying and are about to start the game and still want to do the tutorial.

1) Do the tutorial
2) Once finished, delete the saved data
3) Restart game and this time skip tutorial

that's her grandfather isn't it?

either way... lol
Who designed the fishing mini game? It's like I'm being punished for playing this game.
it's actually pretty easy but it's poorly explained. basically the moment any tension appears on screen stop holding R2 and then just follow the prompts. once they're over start reeling again.

i thought it was dumb and hard at first but now i think it's just dumb.

lmao nooo i see it too

Does anyone know where A King's Tale takes place in the story? My delivery is still a couple hours away it seems but I got my code for AKT and was thinking of playing it while I wait. It's not going to spoil anything? Didn't even know it was included with the Deluxe to be honest.

The Kingsglaive scenes are so awkwardly shoved in, especially the ones at the end of chapter one. What on earth were they thinking? They have zero dialogue, barely a sliver of context, and they don't really serve much of a purpose.
the scene with the guys reading the newspaper is seriously all we needed. As it is, since we the audience have already seen the destruction, their whole "is it true? We have to go back!" thing has zero suspense because we know exactly what happened.

Look on the HUD for little blue/orange circles

Aim the casting target until it turns orange (it's over a fish)
Press X to cast (ps4 controls)

Slowly reel in with R2

Strike the direction on the left analogue stick when it says

Reel in with R2

When it says 'tension' just let go off the reel and use left analogue in the direction it states

Thanks!

The reviewers who stated that Kingsglaive contains too much of this games story is kinda true. I'm not sure why Square Enix did it this way, other than KG being too much backstory for the game they wanted to develop. I'm vacillating between "Man they really needed to show this. . ." and "Well this is kind of cool having two stories running together. . ."

Are you talking about PS4 Pro high quality mode?

I was so excited for this game, but people have spoiled me here and there on the plot and it's put a serious damper on my hype. Not sure if I want to bother (at least for the gameplay) at this point.

I thought this exactly....

That's why I recommended watching Kingsglaive after you've seen what happens in chap 1. That way it kind of pads out the story in the way the awfully hamstringed scenes in chap 1 show.

waste of hdd space tbh

Ho man, that could change everything. Thank you!

At the moment the dude runs like me when I was 230 pounds all flailing limbs and huffing and puffing.
If you got the collector's/steelbook edition, just put on the Royal Raiment(without the coat). Infinite stamina.

Question for everyone else: I finished chapter 1 before having to leave for work today, and left the patch on. About 4 hours of gameplay. Is it worth it just restarting with the patch for story reasons?

This is really weird if true.

AKT is an embellished story told to Kid Noct by his dad. Storywise, it takes place first, or at least during the Brotherhood flashbacks. It's not really needed for the story, but damn if it ain't fun as hell!

I have a Pro and plan to start on high quality mode tonight. Should I skip the tutorial? Will I be lost in combat?

I'd advise doing it for the sake of it showing you the cue timing even if it is pretty easy to get. It will only take a couple minutes and you'll be done with it.

EDIT: Just read about the possible issue, maybe skip it to be safe. It's not very important.

Awesome, guess I'll fire it up while I wait. Thanks!

I brought this up a few pages back, hopefully people do this. I completely skipped it from the beginning because I played the judgement demo and didn't need another explanation of the controls.

By any chance, does anyone know where you can get the official artwork with Noctis and Luna currently used as a background on SE's official store? It looks so, so great.
