i just hope it's a bit clearer than FF13's starting point plot. i'm still downloading and my steelbook kingsglaive is still in shrinkwrap

I guess if you watch kingsglaive it might be more clear, but it's certainly not as compelling. Also the way it's told in game is a fucking mess.

No one talking about A Kings Tale...

No reviews?

I'm playing King Tale right now.... it's... good?

I mean, the level design is just a straight path and it can only been controlled with the sticks, but the combat is decent enough, considering it's a game done for special pre-order in selected shops.

You can evade, have different combos and magics, and each enemy has it's own tricks (you need to break defense, weak to certain magics, using bombs to kill enemies, etc).

Yeah for a preorder game I think it's cool IMO, as long as you don't expect something big.

Carbuncle hasn't appeared for me either, and I'm near the end. I think you meant to quote the guy I was quoting haha.

From what I gather from the judgment demo, he's an Easy mode thing? Maybe doesn't appear on Normal?

He has never appeared for me and I have 61 hours into the game.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
I find it funny when people say they play FF games for their story. IMO there hasn't been a good FF story in the last 15 years. And even then, I think most of the FF games have mediocre/generic stories with a few of them having great stories.

I tracked my Amazon preorder at 10am EST and it said on time. I check it at UPS.com and it says in transit. On time today. 5 mins ago UPS man drives to my apt to drop something off for someone else. I ask about my package. He said he doesnt have it. I go back inside and check tracking again and it now says coming tomorrow.. Ill never preorder from amazon again.

If Kagari were here she would tell you that isn't the case for XIV. Many actually like XII's story and X's. So they haven't really been bad for the past 15 years. Just not universally loved. XV's story had potential but that's pretty much it.

So no one knows how to 'activate' Carbuncle?

On a different note, I wish this game had a bestiary.

Enemy design is top notch. But sometimes its hard to view them in detail due to the chaos of combat. The best shot I have at viewing them closely is through Prompto's photographs.

XI is pretty good too. Better than XII for sure.

Carbuncle has appeared for me 16 times today, against a high level enemy.

_____

The OST makes this game the best game released this century. Sony could release No Man's Sky with FFXV's OST slapped on and it would make it the game of this generation.

This is by far the coolest feature I have ever seen in a game and have no clue behind the tech at. I'm constantly asking when the fuck did he take this lol.

Overscan is ruining my game play. Everything is cut off. I only have a 720p tv. I can't turn off overscan on my tv. It's old. Adjusting the display area in the ps4 menu doesn't help. Whee.

So I'm reading online that the FFXV is only as big as Skillege from The Witcher 3.. wtf? Is this true? Didn't the developer say the map size was "incomprehensible"..? If true this is disappointing as fuck for me.

Can someone give me an estimate of how big the explorable portion of the map is? In relation to TW3.

Having low expectations is a really great thing, haha. So many people talking about how shitty the story is, and how it doesn't tell you anything and Kingsglaive is necessary, that I was happy to find out that they even explain the contents of the peace treaty, both the marriage and the lands beyond the wall being surrended to Niflheim, with the empty promise of the empire protecting them, as well as the public's reaction to that deal.

I wonder how the news will talk of Niflheim and the attack after the fact. They were reporting on the death of Noctis and Luna (still didn't get to that part, though, just speaking from videos), so there's a heavy influence of Niflheim on the media. Even if indirect, since they pretty much rule the world now. There's no "other side" to any story anymore.

Oh yeah, I need to keep checking the newspaper in Hammerhead as frequently as possible. Pretty sure it had different text for each day I interacted with it. It's probably a very low number, though, but it's nice to see this kind of stuff.

So nothing to import from Episode Dusgae, but there is something to import from Platinum Demo, correct?

I'm looking forward to finally deleting these!

Only the name you gave to Carbuncle.

Hmm hard to tell. The Witcher 3 overall is bigger. XV's world feels massive mainly cause everything is more spaced out unlike with TW3. Yesterday I tested the map on foot and on car. On foot it took me exactly 1 hour to get across (no sprinting) on a main road. On car it took 10 minutes to reach from end to the other.

But yea it's obvious they had to scale things down whether cause of budget or time. It's another MGSV/Bioshock Infinite scenario.

All of that stuff is totally incomparable because every game measures its distances differently. If you go by the distances offered in the game itself, the world of Eos is incredibly small.

But in terms of actually playing, it should be sufficient to say that it is a very big world with a lot of stuff to do in it.

Can you connect your PS4 somehow to your desktop monitor OR use the remote play function for windows/mac to remote play it on a notebook display?

Well it detects your save game and says carbuncle will visit. Has not happened for me yet tho

I love X myself, but XII wasn't that hot. And even if you liked 12's story, that was still 10 years ago. I just don't think people should look to the FF series as a series of great storytelling. I think that ship has long sailed. Still no excuse for 13 or 15's story, but I just don't have much hope of getting a good story out of this series. I do expect fun gameplay, a compelling world, good music and things like that. That's why I am one of the few who enjoyed 13, even if I couldn't tell you what was going on.

I can't believe the game turned out to be more than ok, it's been great so far.

The graphics are great on the Pro, enough for me to overlook the obvious frame pacing issues.

As for combat and the ascension system:

But somehow whatever I'm doing is working so far lol.

Whoever said that must have been taking Acid when they drove across Lucis.

It's about Velen size, if not bigger actually, your also in a car and it still takes 10+ minutes to cross.

Can't say if it's true or not, but Including all the water areas in Skillege, that'd be pretty huge still.

Sell most of them.

Thanks.

Prompto is a genius!

You can actually see him photographing from time to time. Yeah, he literally whips out the camera instead of fighting in the middle of the battle. XD

I already found a weapon better than the Masamune and I haven't even done the first story quest lmao just went exploring to places I didn't in the Judgment demo. Guess I don't care that much about the Amazon weapons

Wish I knew how to get the Royal Rainment though.

Edit: is there a combo list somewhere and I'm just missing it? I started air attacking with the sword but haven't been able to replicate since

Not really feelin' the combat in this (don't hate it either, it just does nothing for me so far) but other than that this is a huge step up from FFXIII.

6 hours in and I'm having a good time. Been a long time coming but I'm completely satisfied ATM. The combat is great and I actually like the magic system. Eat some food to become resistant to the elements and bomb away. Taking a small break for now but I'm looking forward to moving the story along.

I am so happy most people are having a good time. I can't wait to dig in tonight.

it makes me sad that I have two friends that canceled pre-orders after the conan thing because they game doesn't seem like its for them.

oh well.

Try out the other control scheme and play around with positioning. Also unlock stuff on the ascension grid.

After about 8 hours in, my thoughts so far:

Pros:
Game runs well
Graphics are pretty good
Music is decent with a few phenomenal tracks
Voice acting is good

Cons:
The way the story is told is a disjointed fucking mess
Also, the story is completely uncompelling so far
Sidequests are pretty badly written
Writing is pretty bad
Battle system isn't great... definitely NOT what I want out of a Final Fantasy, but even outside that criteria... it's alright
No AI controls for your teammates

Overall I wouldn't be surprised to see this get similar backlash that Dragon Age Inquisition got. It has similar problems so far, but without the amazing charm that DA:I had with its characters... and not nearly as compelling a beginning as that game.

I also think it'll probably end up like MGSV for me. A game I might end up liking on its own merits once I put in some hours, but as a game in that series I didn't think it was good. Didn't like it in the same way I liked other Metal Gears. So far I'm not liking this in the same way I liked other Final Fantasies.

:(

This is exactly what is worrying me before i start the game on the weekend. Everything that is actually gameplay related seems to be kind of...not good. Whereas the positive comments seem to be "i cant stop playing but i dont know why" or "the music is so good and one of the characters hummed the ff victory theme"

Im all for nostalgia in my games but i dont expect nor want a game to heavily rely on it. Also, i saw you quoted MGS5, but that game had absolutely PHENOMENAL gameplay, which FF15 from what i have seen/read, does not seem to have :/

I know i sound like such a downer but its been so long...ive waited and i just want something exceptional from this game. Something GREAT even. And i dont want it to be because nostalgia or pretty vistas or "the music was epic when i fought this specific boss"
