I wasn't expecting to like it as much as other JRPGs or as much as other Final Fantasies, yes, but the combat still managed to let me down a bit more.
And as I said, there's zero fucking excuse for no AI control. I have 4 people in my party and I only control 1? That's fucking bullshit.
I haven't played a lot with the Jap dub, but I doubt it's due to the localization.
Though I know with DQ the localization adds more than the original games, though those are done by a different group if I remembering correctly.

I am installing. Have been against this game from the second it was announced as a mainline game. Got nothing else to play at the moment that interests me so I figured what the hell. I have never enjoyed a Final Fantasy for the story so that aspect possibly being a letdown doesn't bother me.

I liked most of the english voices, to be honest. Of the main cast, I don't like Gladio's as much as the others, but Prompto, Noctis and Ignis sound good to me.
I even like Cindy and Cid's accents

Not even going to say because mentioning it would be a spoiler etc. Not going to play with people like that.
It's a lot less coherent so far than Pokemon, but it's obviously not unbearably childish like Pokemon's was. I couldn't stand Sun / Moon's story at all, it was 'grit your teeth' stuff for me. Here, on the other hand, at least I enjoy the company of the characters, who are adults and behave as such.

Characters are great. Story telling bad. So far. I'm in chapter 6.
It's like it puts you in the middle of the events. The movie and animated shorts really made me care about the world and characters a lot more than the game itself did.
The dub has been very competent so far. I can't fault it.
The only niggle I have is that the VAs in the game aren't the same as Kingsglaive's so that's a weird transition.
Other than that, very good so far.

B type controls should have been the standard. Way superior to A. :/
It's sufficient not completely horrible like Type-0 but not super good like XII.
Story related you get the option back in Chapter 3 I believe.

Finished the first chapter at level 10. Only did a couple side quests and one hunt. Looks like there is going to be no avoiding being overleveled for the main story since the enf of chapter fights were much lower leveled. That's a shame

Played 3 hours so far. Still dicking about in the first areas.
Just did a level 8 hint at level 7. Was such fun, god I love the battle system. As I get better and start zipping about, using blindside and link strikes etc - it's awesome.
Still not fully sure how the linknstrike system properly works. Does it only trigger off techniques?

There is something wrong with the way they printed the guides. Like my fingers are clean as shit and my finger slid across the edge of the page and actually smeared the text!!!! Like and then I quickly tested it on a portion that doesn't mean much thankfully and sure enough I could basically wipe the page clean if I wanted to

I like the dub for the main cast. It sounds anime mind you but so does the Japanese VA, it's still competent! I find Luna to sound much worse in Japanese than in English.
You've got some rather bad sounding side characters though. Especially if they're random unnamed ones.
I recommend going dub for the unsubbed banter. There's plenty of it. And really, there's so much dialogue during gameplay. I don't mind reading subs in cutscenes in the slightest but during gameplay even when it's subbed reading it all sounds tiring with this kind of game

Hope for hard mode tbh. I'm facing this exact same problem. The game's so easy on normal if you do the side quests but at the same time I feel rather encouraged to do them due to the chapter length. I love spending time on them but I feel like I'm ruining the story bosses
You need to reach Chapter 3 to re-unlock Manual driving.
I'm just overleveled (Level 50 in Chapter 6) but there are still challenges that you can seek out with hunts and stuff that doesn't make it a complete cakewalk.
Is there anything missable?
That sucks, Jeff. I pre-ordered the digital version in case something comes up with my Deluxe Edition pre-order from Amazon, which hasn't even shipped yet!! I did get to play last night for a couple of hours
I really like exploring the open world since it's rewarding and I get a chance to learn the battle system mechanics along the way.

Plenty of stuff you can miss.. Hell i got the flying regalia after i beat the Game , i just balance main and sidequests.
