Enjoying it so far on the standard PS4. Just started. Did anyone that preordered from Amazon US get their code for FFIX's Mage Mashers?

I think you have to finish the webpage "quests"/minigames at the roadtrip site. You should've gotten an email from Amazon at some point with a code to sign up there, completing everything on that site then gives a code to enter in to PSN.

Edit: I just checked, I can find it in my Gmail by searching for 'FINAL FANTASY XV Road Trip' - it's one of the "Benefit Confirmation" emails Amazon sends.

I'm about an hour into the game and the combat isn't really clicking with me. I'm determined to spend more time with it, but t just feels like a lot of craziness going on at the same time. I also seem to never land those block/parries from the on-screen command.

Everything else in the game is amazing though

It's honestly been a really long time since I've felt quite so conflicted about the pros and cons of a game, maybe Dragon Age 2? I think XV itself shines the most when you're avoiding anything to do with the main story, which absolutely depresses the hell out of me considering the legacy of the series. The game thrives when you're exploring, especially with the creatures, the hunts, the banter... the party interactivity in general, really. Camping for the night is a comforting bit of normalcy, and a nice bonding moment for the characters and the cast. For me, it just feels like there is a really frustrating back and forth, where - in my shitty metaphor - XV is a house, and the devs went right to adding the extensions before the basic structure was properly finished. Ironically, those extensions (ie. the party interactivity with each other and the world) are probably what salvaged the charm of the game as much as it has. Like with Fallout 4, give the players some freedom and some likeable companions, and it can almost make the rest not matter so much.

Hilariously, I thought Prompto would be my most hated party member, but like Noctis, he does actually feel like a believable character. It's hard not to like the awkward, cheery little shit. Ignis and Gladio still feel quite paint-dryingly bland (god, Gladio's dub voice kills me, how can you also be Junkrat), so hopefully they both become a bit more interesting later. I'm still not delighted with the localization, I feel like it misses more than it hits the mark. Even Ignis joins in on the pun action, noo, betrayer.

FFXII is the only other FF game where I've had just as much fun avoiding everything to with the main story as playing through it. In XII's favor, when I did go back to the main storyline, even flawed XII had a much stronger and more constant story beats that lead the player on a tale that stretched across many, many locales. XII also had lots of impressive, well-directed cutscenes that were beautifully localized. I'm curious to see how I feel about XV's hunts in the long run, as some of the joy of XII's hunts were visiting so many different locations, often under different weather conditions. Thankfully XV's hunts are much easier to find! Liede never did a lot for me in the Judgment Demo, and still doesn't, really. It is well designed, but it doesn't really visually thrill me in terms of memorable exploration. What I've seen of the greatly expanded Duscae looks beautiful, so I hope I find that a bit more exciting.

I'm having a hard time knowing when to defend and stuff. It's really chaotic at times, even at low levels.

I've been doing that and nothing happens after a long while.
Weird. I just attacked him and the next moment started once I was done. We don't even need to do that big of a damage

You have to keep the defense button pressed when you see the parry icon on screen. Even was getting stuck at the start because I thought I would have to parry at the exact time of attack and it was difficult, but keeping it pressed is way easier.

Fairly simple to pull off if you just hold down the dodge button in advance when you see an incoming attack. That said, it's almost impossible when you are surrounded by 5-10 enemies attacking from all sides.

Edit: beaten :D

Pretty much how I feel. I'm thinking it's just something to get used to, judging by how others are loving the combat
I like it too, but I just went into my first dungeon and got my ass absolutely handed to me. It was cramped as hell with no room to maneuver and I was just getting hit from every side. It was my first real frustrating experience with the combat.

Was expecting more cinematics and stuff, really doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy yet but I'm certainly very early in the game, 4 hours in and I've mostly been hunting, etc. Having fun anyway, combat is fun but easy so far, even doing level 15 bounties at level 10.

Haven't really noticed the framepacing. HDR looks great. Music is good, I'm enjoying all the banter, already starting to create a connection with these characters.

It seems like the consensus so far on this game is that it's good, some parts of it are even excellent, but overall it's not close to the best FF or anything(as subjective as that is).

So it had me wondering what Square can do to make an FF game where people go "Whoa! This game is an all-timer! Best FF ever!) I haven't heard anyone say that about an FF title in a long time.

Can it even happen?

I think it can. I'm all for trying new ideas, but maybe they need to find a foundation and stick with it instead of trying something totally new in almost every entry. This way they can build on something and keep improving it rather than starting from square one again.

Just some thoughts.

For all the complaints about the story though, I'm already more invested in this one than I got in FF XIII and that was something I spent closer to 20 hours with (finished 8 chapters). Every character in that game was awful.

I hope this keeps up for you. But bear in mind, the lack of bombastic opening isn't really the most common complaint. You're nowhere near far enough after having finished one chapter to understand the grievances of a very choppy and messy and usually sparse narrative.

Can anyone tell me when you start getting summons? I'm about 10 hours in and on chapter 4. Just want to make sure I haven't really missed one yet.

I'm really loving this game so far. Played for a few hours tonight, and just want to keep going. Unfortunately work calls in the morning.

One thing that's jumped out to me right away though is how natural the friendship feels between these dudes. Their interactions and camaraderie have been the highlight for me so far. I want to be a part of their bro-pact! It's a joy to watch and listen to them banter.

Admittedly it may wear off as the game goes on, but as someone who's always wanted to see more FF friendships like this develop (like how Cloud and Zack's bond would have shaken out if things hadn't gone the way they did, for instance), it's really welcome at the moment.

Woke up at 5am to make breakfast for my girlfriend before she left for work, and now I'm sitting drinking coffee and loading up my save/

This game has got me.

Question

what happened to Ideolas exactly?
Major story spoilers - don't click if you have't beaten the game

You are warned
The whole Niflheim empire is destroyed along with Ideolas and others thanks to their experiments to create Daemons out of living people. They use the crystal's power for this purpose.

Good luck, that part was a pain. For what it's worth, I found the boss easier to deal with than some of the later combinations of regular enemies.
Yeah, actually, that was much easier. The
Naga + 3 Red Giants
was a nightmare.

I love the game so far. Still in the first chapter doing side stuff, but its really fun.

Regarding the Soundtrack, I was expecting the early FF soundtracks to be chiptune. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't! Anyone know where they're from? or have they been redone for this game? I am now once again thinking about getting that special edition soundtrack (if its still available)....

I believe 1-3's OSTs are from the remakes. If anything from 4 on is also redone, I haven't heard about it, although I reckon the same would hold true for 4.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I didn't play Platinum demo, but I did play Episode Duscae and Judgment, and got carbuncle unlocked for one of those. Glad that was a thing.

That's lame. :/
How about the Deluxe Edition dlc? Do they just show up after downloading them? Or do you have to find someone that'll give them to you in-game?

*Edit* nvm. Just had to return to the main menu.

Man. The message from Amazon apologizing for the delay and asking me to contact them if I don't get my package by December 3rd really has me down. It sounds like most of my fellow delayers here got messages saying tomorrow instead of this "by the 3rd" thing. I preordered the day preorders went live. Just a no-fun situation, this.

Mine says December 2nd. I don't know what the hell happened. Tracking said it was in the city, had the destination scan this morning, then delayed at 8:00 tonight.

Well.. I just now got my codes for the Amazon Road Trip bundle and they went through. Now that I am level 21 and on Chapter 3. They probably have no use at this point lol.
