Does the story pick up? Just finished chapter one and hitting some sidequests. Seems like lots of back and forth.

I'm not really complaining here, it's an open world game, it's what I was expecting. I guess it just doesn't feel very Final Fantasy.

Battle system seems interesting so far. Charcters are good. I'm a little overwhelmed by everything right now. Took me four hours to go through chapter 1 because I kept exploring haha.

Ugh. Just hit my second hard crash in about 20 hours of gameplay. Lost about 30 minutes of progress. Have to do the entire Behemoth fight again (the one from the Duscae demo).

Remember to save often, folks. The auto save sometimes doesn't cut it.

UPS screwed me over, was supposed to deliver today and the UPS truck pulled a block away twice but still no delivery probably going to return it to amazon when delivered.

(early quest spoiler) So let me get this straight. This little black
courier wolf
, will travel gods no how many miles to deliverer one sentence.

This guy is out, at night, hiding in the dark trying not to get see lest he become a doggy burger. He's the real FF hero here folks. I hope he eats Profompom and joins my party by the rites of strength and teeth.

So far it's ok I guess, but it's not much of a FF game to me. I think to myself, what does this game do that other games don't already do much better? And there's nothing, everything just feels so throughly mediocre. It's at least better than XIII, as I don't outright hate the characters and dialogue right now.

I said wow
“A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers.”

What does this even mean?

If they meant you don't need to play any other FF games to enjoy FF15, it's been like this since FF1 (excluding sequels X-2, XIII-2 etc). You don't need to play any other numbered FF games first to enjoy the next one.

The irony is, it is precisely NOT enough to just play the game in order to get the whole story - you need to watch animes, CGI movies, etc.

It means it's still accessible to gamers who have yet to discover the franchise (despite being the fifteenth entry in a long-standing series) while containing enough references to the series' history to appeal to long-time fans.

Yep. I don't want to be too upset. Didn't think it would show up today tbh. It always stings when your delivery date isn't the delivery date, though.

pretty disappointed. I tried to contact microsoft store, and they said they dont guarantee release date delivery. I had to link them to the page where it says they do. I guess its Fedexs fault though. It was shipped the 28th using overnight and it didnt get here today.

Mine showed that it was picked up by FedEx yesterday morning but it left their facility 90 mins ago.

The story is very sparse in the beginning of the game and remains that way for a while. It picks up in the later half of the game though.

Started out a little slow for me. Put in 6 hours and I'm enjoying a lot more now. Still only on chapter 2. I imagine you could blow though this game quickly but I'm more interested in experiencing everything in the world. I'm assuming you can come back later for the rank 2 hunts?

Also where do I find the metal piece to have Cid upgrade my energy blade? It just show the icon on him.

Also the music is great, as usual.

Also spoiler question

does Nyx get referenced at all in this game? They never even showed him in the flashbacks.

Don't get your hopes up too much regarding the story. It does pick up and in the end it makes sense as a Final Fantasy game but the story (moreso the way that it is conveyed) is the weakest point of this entry.

Well, reached Chapter 3 and finally - finally! - hit some fun stuff. Game has started to pick up a bit.

First - the
Behemoth
fight. This was really cool, really fun, well done. The game appears to be better at set pieces like this than the open world stuff. This section also showed off some of the great lighting effects in the game.

Sidenote: The visuals in this game are weird as hell. It often looks plain awful due to low resolution textures and aggressive LoDs on terrain in the background. The water at the first pier you visit is shockingly bad, and things in the middle distance tend to look blurry, like a layer of vaseline is smeared on them. On the other hand, the lighting is very good, the realistic palette is cool, and most of all a lot of the animations are really fantastic. It all adds up to a game that can look stunning in small moments but terrible for long stretches.

Secondly - Unlocking
Chocobos and doing races and stuff.
Seeing as my big problem was getting around the world and how shit the car is, this couldn't have come at a better time - and the feature is great. I loved it.

Thirdly - This region is so much better than the desert. Nicer to look at, more interesting to explore (though there's still a serious lack of things to find off the beaten path). Did some hunts and stuff. Not bad.

Still though, I've been playing for 9 hours and feel like 6 of that has been running errands and slowly traversing the world for lack of better transport options. That issue is finally fixed but it was a desperately poor opening.

The world feels like it's a realistic size and design rather than a video game size and design. That's interesting, but it doesn't make for very fun gameplay imo. It makes so crazy amounts of travel time, and points of interest that feel way too far apart. This is not a game that entices you off the beaten path with promises of interesting things to find. 9 hours in and I've found nothing of any interest at all in my exploration of the wilds, but have suffered massive treks back home for my troubles.

I feel like you needed to watch Kingsglave and Brotherhood to really appreciate the story. Atleast that's what it seems so far.

As much i enjoy the game... it really need a proper hard mode or level rebalance, i feel way overleved and this not because of hunt , they dont give that much xp, but fetch quest give way too much xp... i didnt even fight a lot of random encounter.. level 5 story Line, i'm already 11 and i havent done any grinding and exploration. Where we tweet to ask for a hard mode 😉 ? Hehe

Okay. How do you save your game? I'm in Chapter 2 at Hammerhead, and I do not see any options to save anywhere. It's not in my menu.

Sort of.. I'll leave it at that. Remember hes just there for audience to see what happened during the invasion. He's unimportant.

There is also an item that will give exp bonus when fusing with magics. I'm only 15 hours in (early chapter 3) and I levelled from 17 to 24 with 2 battles lol.

But I do find that leveling seems not to make the game any easier than I expect when facing some enemies...

Man. The message from Amazon apologizing for the delay and asking me to contact them if I don't get my package by December 3rd really has me down. It sounds like most of my fellow delayers here got messages saying tomorrow instead of this "by the 3rd" thing. I preordered the day preorders went live. Just a no-fun situation, this.

Unfortunately I don't, but it's R2 to attack, L2 to dodge, R1 map, L1 lock on, X jump, Tri warp, etc.

Yup

It's... the best (^____^)

On a side note

Am I weird for REALLY liking how they've made this universe very modern... I mean, I love the juxtaposition of having the core Final Fantasy fantastical shit alongside cell phones, cafes, etc.

I'd compare it to Baz Lurmahn's Romeo + Juliet actually...

Love it!

I have a code from Amazon that's a string of numbers. Where do I input this? It's not the typical set of letters and numbers your input on the console. It's more than would fit. I think it's to get the FF9 daggers.

Man, one thing I think I can confidently say is that this game has a lot of heart, at least in regards to the main four.

That's always been my favorite part about the game's concept and I'm glad it's one of the things that remained in the transition from Versus to XV.

So deleting the Platinum demo save data and once again rebuilding the PS4 database seems to have resolved the issue and I can finally save the game. Just a heads up for anybody else that may be having the issue

Even if they fix HQ mode I don't even know if I'll use it. The IQ gain is minimal with regards to the increase in the Pro's noise levels. Man the fan is annoying as hell on this thing.
