Oooooh man, I highly respect your opinion, so that comment just made my day! I honestly can't believe I haven't reached Titan yet because I'm having a blast just running around, finding new places, doing hunts, finding new monsters (the Reapers are awesome!) and just enjoying the amazing visuals, the music and the character interactions. So far this game is surpassing my expectations of it, and I'm just starting!
Haha, great to hear you are loving it so far! :D

Do you get the keys for the
2 dungeons
you can find in Chapter 1 through the main story?
It is post-game related stuff. There are
8 keys in total given by someone once we are done with the game

Does anyone know where to get the Redstone Shard at for
The Ever Elegant Regalia quest?
The game gives no clue at all. Looked it up online and said it's at the entrance to
Belouve Mine
but nothing near the entrance. Even went inside and nothing. Maybe it's deeper in?

Fantastic game so far.

Love the bro interactions. The combat is making more sense now, and the vistas and the HDR in the game look amazing. Really enjoying the exploration side, even when it means being wiped by a boss that is 40 levels higher than me. All in all, far surpassing my expectations and i am loving how i am taking my time exploring, hunting and being rewarded by that.

Also, the music is just so good.

Been playing for like 2 hours. I'm sorta digging it so far. It definitely looks nice. I think it'll start growing on me as I get more familiar with it. A couple questions, though.

1. Does combat system get more interesting/challenging? So far I feel like it's a lot of chaos and button mashing and I don't feel fully in control of the action. I remember the battle system in XIII starting off as pretty dull but as the game progressed, it became more complex and I started to really enjoy it. Can I expect a similar curve here?

2. I heard somewhere that there are literally only 2 towns in the entire game. Is that true? it seems exaggerated but 2 hours in, I haven't seen anything but fields, deserts and caves myself (except various stray gas stations and an abandoned warehouses). Not a huge deal, but kinda disappointing if true.

1. Turn on wait mode if you haven't already.

2. I believe it's 3 but with smaller settlements spread around. It's fine, it's just a missed opportunity for avoiding smaller towns.

You learn the combat system a lot better during the several coming hours, and you need to because battles get more intense.

There are (towns spoiler)
two big cities in the game, but there are outposts that have quests and such for you, as well as some different locales that are also populated.

I personally love how exp is handled. Receiving it at the end of the day slightly builds up anticipation for it, and makes resting actually fun (in combination with other activities there obviously).

Is it that bad in Texas? Hers is like some backwoods Kentucky holler shit :p

I know people in Florida that talk like her. Only thing I really don't like about Cindy is her outfit. I think it's funny that prompto wants to ask her out... so much that he's going to get his own car to have an excuse to go by the garage. (Noct even offers to loan him the Regalia)

Makes me wonder why they didn't just go the MGSV route and just have Noctis be able to sprint indefinitely.

I see no logical reason to have a sprint limit. Just give us infinite sprint. There's zero reason to limit it if we can just tap at the right point to continue with it.
Hope they patch it in to be honest.

I'm with you two, it's pointles to have a limit if you can spam it to infinity anyway may as well patch it to sprint all the time.

Outside the outfit shes pretty harmless

I played FFXV all day. It's the first game I've done that with in a long, long time and my thoughts?

THE KING HATH RETURNETH
No I have not played FFXIV yet but will get to it after XV

Where to start?

The captivating characters and endearing character interaction? The political story set up? The lush Final Fantasy trademark genre pushing art design? The incredible soundtrack? The battle system that keeps giving more and more the more I put into it? The customization system that doesn't hand out ability points like candy, making ability choices have actual weight due to AP's scarcity? The enticing villains?

I don't know where to start. I have been a Final Fantasy fan for nearly twenty years now and this is a return to form that I've been waiting for. It's not perfect, there are some cracks, but I feel like they're all well mended glue so that the game doesn't break in half. Considering the troubled development, this game has no right being as good as it is, and yet, it is.

It'll be really hard putting everything I like about this in an in-depth post. I have a lot to articulate and I can only imagine that it'll take a while for it all digest so I'll be sticking with my favorite parts so far.

- I love the hunts They're back and just as good as I remember them in XII. Early on I button mashed on the hunts, but the higher the mark level, the more things get interesting.

- I love the characters. Gladio's cheesy puns. Prompto's quirkiness. Ignis is kind of boring so far but it's kind of a good boring? I love seeing Gladio read his book as Ignis drives to a destination. Prompto singing the Final Fantasy victory fanfare after a successful battle. One time we camped out and Gladio suggested he and Noct take an early morning training sesh, laughs were had during the actual thing. I love Prompto's photography. It all feels so natural and like these characters have actual interests and lives. It's so refreshing, especially since we haven't had a single player Final Fantasy like that since maybe X.

- I found myself smiling with a big grin on my face multiple times as I played it. It's such a relaxing game and brings me back great memories, but it's more than the nostalgia for me. It has that trademark Final Fantasy charm that I can't describe. That's half-cheesy, half-serious in the vein of IV - X that XII (as much as I love it) and XIII (ew) just simply lacked. It just fits like a natural puzzle piece that's been missing from the series for so long. I remember Tabata trying to go for the feeling of Final Fantasy in one of his interviews; what exactly is Final Fantasy? It's certainly more than a shared spell names, Cid, Chocobo's, and Moogles, and this just oozes Final Fantasy to me. It's dripping FF from its pores. That's not to say FFXII and XIII weren't FF, but it's something I cannot describe in that this doesn't feel like a Square Enix game - it feels like a Squaresoft game, and that feeling felt like home and I was instantly comfortable.

- Despite the inherent "lack of things to do" I find myself wandering all over. Like, at first it's easy to forget the northern part of the first area. I found a dungeon with a level 50 Ronin at the bottom just wandering around once. I try to push things and camp out when I can, ignoring inns because camping has a bigger pay out. You could hypothetically dedicate yourself to just picking all the natural ingredients in the area for high level food for Ignis to cook so you can reap level up gains early. Try your hand at Hunts that are way higher than you level. Train with Gladio at camp. I find a lot of the things to do help draw you in the world. The natural conversations helps ease things as well.

- I really, really like the combat. I made a thread months ago for Wait Mode when it first announced. I played the Platinum demo and found the battle system utterly unsatisfactory in it and thought the game would be unplayable for me without Wait mode. The battle system in the final game is so good I haven't even bothered trying wait mode and have left it on the default setting. The more you play, you better you get at it, but what's fun is how badass it eventually makes you feel.Once you start learning air strike moves that keep you in the air, evading every incoming attack without touching the ground, the battle systems beauty really starts to come out.

- I'm engrossed with the world. This is the first FF I can say that about since X. It's like Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VIII had a baby, with a little FFXII in it.

- The game is surprisingly relaxing. I love just letting Ignis drive me to locations, taking in the scenery. Making plans for that day, completing them, setting up camp at the end of a game day and then planning the next day is such a fun gameplay loop.

I have mentioned problems and I think they're definitely there.

- I think the biggest problem is the storytelling. I watched Kingsglaive tonight and I loved it to pieces, but I would have been confused once the game started playing clips from it without much explanation. I mean, it explains that there's going to be a treaty signing and everything, but it feels so disjointed. I think the game would have been better served if they played clips from Kingsglaive interspersed during chapter 1 but then how is SE going to sell you that fancy Blu Ray? Still, it's not told in the best way sometimes. There's a cutscene early on with Lunafreya meeting her dogs on the road, and barely a word is said, and it just suddenly ends. No explanation on how she got that far by herself despite the checkpoints, where she is. It felt random and disjointed. It reminds me of Suikoden IV and Xenosaga II in that regard. This element could have certainly been done better, but the story is still managing to pull me in despite this.

- Related to the storytelling problem, the game doesn't properly explain its world without outside source material. It doesn't mention the crystal at all so far or why it's important or how the Empire got it or the Wall or...well, anything. It doesn't explain that Lucis is a nation of magic, or that the Empire is a nation of technology and that these two nations have warred with each other for ages. Classic magic vs tech story line. Instead, you have to watch Kingsglaive to know any of this when the game should have given these pieces in the mean time. Then again, this exposition could get in the way of the natural feeling of XV and how it unveils its world bit by bit. Still, I'm sure there could have been a better way without putting up a giant info dump FFXIII style.

- Camera can be wonky sometimes. Like coming from a Warp Strike and suddenly the camera angle has changed, you can barely see the monster you attacked, and suddenly you're hit. Fitting large groups of enemies can be odd at times for this as well because sometimes enemy attacks aren't well choreographed and seem sudden and it's hard to keep track of it all. Or you're in a shadow-y area and just can't see the group of monsters you're supposed to be hunting. It's not a huge flaw, but it's definitely a flaw.

Still though, the game is great. I'm about done for the day and I couldn't have been more happy with my purchase. Around E3 I was really worried about this project. We got an awful demo in the Platinum demo, there was the E3 Titan demo gaffe, the extra delay. But in the end it all worked out. I'm hoping Tabata and his team get their own FF game after XVI. They deserve it and made this possible - absolute miracle workers.

Surprise of the year for sure and worth the wait.

Welcome back, FF. I fucking missed you, bb.

Might just be me but is anyone else getting weird artifacting when using ally techniques? Thankfully it doesn't happen that often.

On regular PS4 btw. The game is so fun lol.

I can't figure out how to consistently do certain attacks with some weapon types. For instance, the long-distance grounded ramming attack with the spear, or a lot of attacks with greatswords. I know that they supposedly have to do with what direction you're holding, but I still can't figure it out.

Incidentally, are you supposed to hold a direction relative to the direction Noctis is facing or not?

lmao I had
Aerith's Theme
playing in the car radio. When the game was cutting away from a scene, I heard it and was thinking, what the heck?

Fooled myself, it was back in the car.

Lock-on works for me. I can do the lunge with the spear with forward + attack when I am locked on.

Played about 5 hours nonstop..and I have finals..

There is no way this isnt one of the very best FF.

I love how fast it gets going and how there are story telling subtleties everywhere you go.

Fucking amazing game.
Loving all the impressions, especially from those who were skeptical :D

Question. How do I listen to music outside of the car? I thought the patch notes said something like that? Do I need a special item?

I don't think I can play this game with JP voices on. Tetsuya Kakihara (Prompto) is grating on me too much. English voice cast is good though Gladio is a bit rough. JP voices don't really change the weird pacing/mixing issues that make VAing feel off either.

I switched to English as well. Prompto too good.

onto chapter 3 and hey! it's Duscae again! long time no see.
I am starting to enjoy the battle a bit more now. I do feel the battle shines when there is little less enemy on the screen and when shit doesn't cover up your view.

Soo I just got to Golden Quay...

There is literally no water there for me. Fish are swimming in mid air, the pier is floating...and nothing is fixing it :(

Game looks absolutely fucking amazing. I don't remember having been floored like this since Fox Engine.

Starting Chapter 3, the random battles are really ripping me apart now.

I'm like 4hrs in and still in chapter 1. I need to stop messing around and get on with the story. I love this game..

And this game in 4k HDR looks so freaking good. Absolutely amazing. Idk if I can play any other game that doesn't have HDR. Truly a game changer

GOTY for me and I'm only upto chapter 3.
Wont say goty or anything until I finish. But there are only two other games this gen that made me stay up and play constantly and that's ratchet and clank and Digimon cyber sleuth. Been playing this darn game since 10am est
