Guys why are enemy dropships so silent? Is it the same for you as well?

Generally the audio is a bit messy... character dialogue seems way loud compared to the rest of the game's audio. I know you can adjust these things but still.

Yeah, I can't do the JP voices at all. KAKIHARAAAAAAA

Also, is it me or Type-B control scheme is significantly better than Type-A?

It just depends on the person I guess.

Personally, I only feel comfortable using the Type A controls.

Just to be clear, I'm referring to the lunge that has a second or two of startup and hits multiple times. I think every time I've done it, I've been holding back (again - is that supposed to be down on the stick, or away from the enemy?), but a lot of the time I do a different series of attacks with the same input.

Press back + attack (I think only after an attack?) to make Noctis push himself away from his enemy, then hold the attack button and Noctis should start charging for the lunge attack.

Huh, so people say you should use Control Type-B? I guess I'll look at it.

Is there any way to toggle the damn lock-on so I don't need to hold down R1 for hours?

Yup. The only thing I wish I could do is swap square and circle. The rest of the button mapping seems perfect in type A to me. The other types change way too many things to make it worth switching for square being attack imo.

I would do a button reassignment on a system level, but then that would mean exiting/backing out of menus and such would have to be done by pressing square, which I know I'll mess up and get annoyed with.

I switched to English and heard them speak in a cutscene... It just sounds cheaper, and way more inconsistent since some characters are way better than others. Gladio sounds bored, and lol at Cindy/Cidny.

I just switched to Type-B and it feels pretty good. That seems to be what a lot of people have been recommending too.

What makes you dislike the JP voices?

Kakihara Tetsuya, Prompto's VA. I can only take so much of him because he literally does the same voice in everything he does. He's Simon from the JP version of Gurren Lagann, Lloyd Bannings from Trails to Zero/Ao, etc.

Also, the side characters/NPC VAs in English are better too so far.

It just depends on the person I guess.

Personally, I only feel comfortable using the Type A controls.

Considering you can just hold Phase/Guard for defense, doing that and hitting Circle for attacking is pretty awkward. Type-B just lets me hold L1 with my left pointer and tap square for attacks to get perfect defense.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I've been using Wait mode (mostly because it makes it feel more FF-ish to me), and while I really like it, I actually think it gets in the way of properly parrying.

I will say, though, that wait mode is a great addition, and makes battles feel like a melding of Japanese and Western RPG battle mechanics.

So took me 4.5 hours to get through the first chapter. Calling it a night. Really enjoying it so far.

Also, when transitioning into chapter 2,
I heard some epic music and went "woah, now what?" And then the screen started to fade in and I went "wait, this sounds familiar." Then realized I left the car on Liberi Fatali from FF VIII. LOL. It fit so perfectly, especially with the fade in from black. Really created a fitting tone for the car ride to hammerhead in light of the revelations to Noctis and company at the end of chapter 1

mine had
one winged angel and it was epic af

Noct's skill takes ages to level up. I fish and I fish and it's still at level 2.

Is there some trick to fishing? I press the left stick in the direction it says to but still lose huge amounts of line power. What am I doing wrong

Fishing just sucks in games lmao as boring as it is in real life. Wish the main mini game was taking pics instead

I've only done tutorial and have trouble timing parrying. (Using controls B) Am I just suppose to press L1 once or hold L1 when prompted?
Must practice more...

About 8 hours in and i'm in chapter 3, i'm really enjoying it so far, can definitely see a MGSV/Witcher 3 inspiration. Story isn't that great so far, perhaps also cause having watched Kingslave i already knew what's going on right now. Will see how it goes, definitely gonna enjoy it

Hahahaha, holy shit, [endgame spoilers]
The Ruins of Pitioss
is the most insane dungeon ever. It is overshadowing the rest of the game for me.

Loving it.

Is it weird if the shied is my favourite weapon so far?

I thought exactly the same thing when I unlocked it. You can actually knock and stun the enemies with it if you time the defence at the right time. It's insanely powerful for what it is aswell.

Also when chapter 2 ended like people have been saying my music was the FF1 Prelude.

That shit was beautiful.

so how does this game run on the Pro?

Short answer is 'some people claim to have issues with framerate etc..'

Personally I think it runs brilliantly - just as good as all the other games I've played on it.

Anyone can confirm on the dropships being completely silent?

6 hours and 30mins on the clock. Beginning of Chapter 3.

I'm nearly lv15, i think lv14. God I hate eclipsing quests with my levels but I cant resist doing shit! Hunts are really fun aswell.

Never heard any sounds from the dropships. Sometimes I get a voice line warning me about imperials/magitek armor incoming but other than that.. Nothing..

so how does this game run on the Pro?

haha, that's great. i love that tune

I forgot about performance, don't know about PS4 Pro, though game really shows huge frame rate drops on Xbox One, perhaps is cause i'm used to 60fps on PC but this game really runs "slowly" also draw distance is not that great and texture often looks low res when distant from camera, this game really deserved a PC version without this graphical compromises

So I'm onto Chapter 14 now :D

Chapter 13:
Did anyone else just not bother hiding from the patrolling guards? I had so many elixirs I just spammed magic with the ring to kill every daemon I came across. I did find the 'daemon' version of Luna's brother pretty tough though, I used a hell of a lot of items during that fight.

Chapter 14:
You get an open-world save after beating the chapter right? At this point, I imagine there's little point in going back to the past when I presume a bunch of post-game stuff unlocks when I clear this chapter.

That ending.

This is my favorite ending of all time in a game.

HOLY fuck.
My legit reaction at the ending

I don't think ive heard any noise when they arrive overhead. Prompto sometimes points them out however

Thanks a lot guys. Really weird decision. Would love to hear their engines while they fly over me.

All the way to the far left of the map there is an oval shaped piece of road.

There are a couple outposts near there that have sold the most powerful shit I've found on chap 3 so far.... Just work your way there 'talking' to all the eating places on the way and it'll uncover them all

This might honestly be the best open world RPG combat system I have ever played including Dragon's Dogma. Every fight is so much fun. Also, it should become common knowledge that the game gets significantly better with control type B.

Yes, there is no forced stealth so I never hid at all. The boss fight was very tough but also great and lets us use all the techniques that we have learned so far. Very fun overall.

As for Chapter 14, if you are atleast level 42 o above, you should be fine. Just do it and reach the ending then you can complete the rest in post-game.

How long did it take you to beat the game?
35 hours. Level 46 for the party.

But I heard the day 1 patch added XP boost so others might easily level up. I played without it though as I had the game week earlier than official release.

Fishing is my favorite mini game in the game by far.

3 hours in, and just started chapter 3. This seems the most boring and poorly designed FF so far.
Will keep playing it hoping it will just click at some point, but my complaint list is growing at an alarming rate. Makes me sad thinking there could be a FF I don't like.

Kinda figured. I'm going back to English anyway, lol

The Lore Guide before you start gives a basic routine of the world but yeah, it's really strange that they didn't start this off better after the debacle that was FF13

Maybe I'm an outlier here, but I never understood how FFXIII was so hard to understand, at least in the first half of the game. If you knew the basic premise, basically nothing should have been confusing. But the game explains what L'cie and Fal'Cie are throughout the game ... Start the game, and you're told that Fal'Cie brand L'cie and give them a mission. They also have magical powers. Progress and you see that Fal'Cie perform different tasks that keep Cocoon intact. Etc etc.
