So what's the range limit on Thor's ability to call Mjolnir? Whatever the script demands at the time?

I guess it depends on who is Odin at that time. From that synopsis, it looks like that since Hela is seemingly taking over, she might have control over who is worthy to carry Mjolnir.

he wrote his previous films. the majority of his charm will be lost as just a director for hire. I have no idea why they even hired him without getting his input on the screenplay. it's pretty stupid of them.
at least the screenwriter is different from the previous two, but i still think the movie will be average at best. I'm glad they subbed in Hulk to make this more tolerable. Hopefully ruffalo gets some screentime too. we'll see how it pans out.
I wouldn't look too much into this if I were you. That reads like Hollywood politics, and I have no doubt that Taika was involved greatly with the shooting script and the tone of the story, at least.

depending on how much input he has then he would be given credit no? isn't that generally the rule due to writers guild concerns and all that. just think it's bizarre that they hire such a comedic talent and then ask him to simply direct, he should be at least cowriter forreal.

That's a lot of competition just to say that Thor 3 will win based on a 2 sentence synopsis.
Director plays a huge part of the excitement.

I wouldn't say Thor 3 will "win" but 2 wasn't a bad movie, just average in a sea of "great".
Comments so far seem to indicate marvel knows what mistakes were made...and a lot of what drug down Thor 1 and 2 was nonsense relationship crap shoehorned in the plot, and Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins sleepwalking through their roles.
Still need some Darcy in there though

Can't imagine why. Everything that anyone's heard about Logan has that movie being extremely solid.
Justice league and WW though? No faith in WB not screwing the pooch with those two
It says he's on the other side of the universe, so maybe the hammer would take like a month to reach him?
The other option would be that it's locked away, like behind some magic forcefield or something.
I have hope for all three of those, they just don't have the best track record (Logan by far looks like the standout of the three and WW looks potentially good as well). Nor does Spider-Man, but hopefully with Marvel being the creative force behind it, that will help.

Yeah, pretty sure Disney has some high trust in this dude. He also, IIRC, was the most influential writer on early scripts of Moana, and drew heavily from his heritage?
Could be remembering that wrong. Know he was involved somehow.

We already got a good enough look at Holland as spider man to know he'll be fine.
And Keaton as vulture is some A tier casting. If that film ends up as good as marvel's worst (IH) it will STILL be the second best Spiderman movie.
I am not that worried about the actors, just the story.
Right now here is how I would list my excitement for the films listed:
1. GotG2
2. Spider-Man/Thor
3. Logan
4. WW

8. Justice League.
No I have not but I've heard good things. I've been slacking on reading Western comics lately, at least Superhero stuff.

And LEGO Batman coming in a few weeks. They are probably going to pull so many obscure references in that that Slayven's head will spin.

Like I said, I wouldn't read too much into it. The directors job is to storyboard the movie, giving notes to writers, editing the movie, etc...
That being said, after all is said and done, maybe he'll end up with a more rewarding "Film by..." credit instead?

I'm a bit wary about this one. I mean, Thor is one of my absolute favorite heroes in the MCU, but The Hunt for the Wilderspeople disappointed me slightly as I didn't find it as funny as I thought it would have been based on the trailer. And I want a dark serious movie from Thor: Ragnarok but it seems that changed into some 80s vibe humor since Waititi came on which could also be fine. I need to watch more of his movies to make a call on the director.
I think his draft of Moana was mostly rewritten, but he was involved in it. Which suggests Disney have a lot of faith. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get some kind of writing credit, honestly.
Thor : Ragnarok most definitely won't be a dark serious movie. Better adjust your expectations already.

Once those Marvel checks clear, you could get these directors to say anything.
I hope Taika does something ludicrous like that hidden in his sleeve.
I'm really excited for this movie; Taika's enthusiasm, Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo doing the score, and a Marvel that seems to be more willing to make their villains memorable.
I did, but it doesn't change that that was what I was really looking forward to, with the whole Ragnarok event and Hela entering the picture. Now I just hope for some comedic cool gladiator battles.
I'm still more excited about this one, than I am Logan, Wonder Woman and Justice League though.

I can belive it. While Marvel does obviously work in certain elements regardless of director, and seem to have an overarching control they do let directors put in some of their own flare. You can see James Gunn all over Guardians

Or even better. A Jane/Christine team up movie. With a post credits scene of Darcy getting eaten by that octopus monster from GotG2.

Basically none of the MCU directors except Alan Taylor have expressed that concern. James Gunn in particular will be happy to tweet you all day about how he has complete creative control over Guardians.
Kevin Feige is a very busy man and probably has no interest in micromanaging all the movies he produces in a year. Especially now that Ike is out of the picture, he seems much more willing to just hire who he thinks are interesting people that will give a distinctive feel to each movie.
Unless they take 10 years to write a script.
Mjonir once busted through hell(the literal place) to return to Thor.

I think it's interesting to see how some powers behind the scenes have changed to allow for a female villain. Both Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 were restricted from it four years ago.
I'm looking forward to what Taika does with it. Synopsis sounds cool as does the road trip talk. I just hope Loki isn't a major part of it.
