First PlayStation 5 console hands-on reveals mysterious nut

They have not allowed photos of the rear of the console so I suspect the expansion port is in the rear like other ps consoles
But we've already seen pictures of the rear and there is no slot.

I don't expect there to be a slot for easy access anyways. The reason for why the Series X/S can do it with an expansion slot is the heatsink/casing of the SSD. With PS5 you use regular off the shelf SSDs without heatsink... you can't just shove this in a slot somewhere. Well you could, but looking at the Samsung 980 Pro and the temps it reaches which peak at around 80°C... yeah, this totally won't lead to thermal throttling if it's not cooled in some way.

I expect the console to have an easily accessible slot inside the console that guarantees the SSD gets good airflow, so a heatsink isn't necessary. Maybe that slot is big enough for SSDs with low profile heatsinks, which would be even better.

Maybe you have to unscrew the "nuts" this thread is about to access the internals. Hopefully it's all easy enough to get done... and this uncertainty is why Sony should finally do a teardown. I really want to know how they've handled this.

Really amazing that this type of thing caught the attention of people.
Maybe this would not be a "News" if they showed

- Some of the UI
- A revamped PS Store?
- A proper AAA game running like Demons Souls
- Free look up on the console and not in a controlled environment
- How backward compatibility works
- Test of speed on different games
- Start Screen
- What "create" button is and how it works
- Explanation on expanding your SSD or how to attach a new one.

But Jim Ryan has everything under control
At least he's got his nuts under control.

- Some of the UI (what about the XSX UI?)
- A revamped PS Store? (what about the XSX Store?)
- A proper AAA game running like Demons Souls( .. we saw enoff DeS and Godfall at 4K60, what about the XSX ngen games?)
- Free look up on the console and not in a controlled environment (why? who cares ... afraid of fingerprints like on the XSX?)
- How backward compatibility works (totally agree, even though we have no clue how the XSX does it and which games get an HDR patch)
- Test of speed on different games (loading times? expect them short)
- Start Screen (ok, ahve we seen the XSX one?)
- What "create" button is and how it works (true, but what does the share button do on the XSX?)
- Explanation on expanding your SSD or how to attach a new one. (totally agree)

Godfall running at 4K60 is more taxing than Demon´s Souls at 4K30 or 1440p60. They played Godawful for 80min and the console remained silent (50º+ celsius). The loading times are stupidly short, so much they had to "add fake loading screens with tips" in Godfall!!

PS4 teardown november 2013
PS4 Pro teardown november 2016
PS5 teardown __________ 2020

If we are lucky we still have one event left from the two.
Someone finally said it.

While I agree with what others have said, that saying "but what about" is not a defence and does nothing to negate the complete lack of info, fuck it, I'll play along.

UI/Store: both already updated and shown on current Xbox, they've already said its going to be same UI across gens so more than it being shown; people are already using it.

Next gen games running on console: it was my understanding there are little to no launch day titles for SX so what are they meant to show? 3rd parties aren't going to let them show an unfinished game.

No hands on: really, fingerprints? That's all you've got? This entire thread exists because they haven't done a tear down compared to SX tear down being done months ago. You don't have to care about it but plenty do.

BC: the fact you're even trying to argue this is telling, MS have shown far more BC stuff than Sony and you know it. Wilful ignorance. You might as well have just written "but what if I'm a warrior" in yellow instead.

Load times: again, you hand wave it away when fast loading is meant to be one of the big advantages of this console, is it not? So why are they not shouting from the rooftops how much faster they can do it than SX? SX have even got confirmed load times for unoptimised games.

Start screen: has been shown, see Bernkastels comment.

Share button: is this not self explanatory? Is it not safe to assume it's just an MS-branded PS capture button or w/e it's called. Create infers a bunch more possibilities.

TLDR: if your only defence of valid questions is to say "but what about MS", you're not defending shit. At best your calling both companies shit; doesn't negate missing info from Sony.

This has all been explained or shown already on XSX....google is your friend

I don't think it's that mysterious... giggle

Are we even looking at the same picture?
You seriously think that screws are example of good industrial design? If someone in Apple during Jobs times would come with something like that he would lost his job in seconds. There are dozens of other ways that could be designed without huge visible screws. That's also probably first consumer electronic device with allen screws I have ever saw. What the fuck did they come up with, that phillips screws are not strong enough?

You what?
Plenty of Apple products released whilst Jobs was there had visible screws!
Not countersunk or counterbored screws not counting of ones in back of Mack Pro? I would like examples of them. Anyway that's one of most obtrusive screws in high end consumer electronic I ever saw.
Before you say anything. Yes some devices use screws as part of their design, but that one is not like them. They never though about hiding it or couldn't do that for whatever reason.

You said visible screws first - rather than limiting it to ones that aren't flush with the device. So based on that original argument:
Most iPhones since the iPhone 4 have screws on the bottom of the device either side of the charging port.
Most MacBooks have screws on the bottom of the device.

To see anything of the PS5's you have to be looking through the grills - most people aren't going to be doing that!

If you don't see difference between small screws in BOTTOM of device, in addition to that flush with line of device and in color of whatever is around them and big fucking screws shining through holes in front of device then we really don't have anything to talk about.

Can't get over how beautiful the console is from all sides. I envy people who managed to get their pre orders in :(

Can we get a video from DF showing how these type of nuts are used in other applications and them assuming how this nut is going to work with a closed system?
