I also played Pillars of Eternity. Never grabbed me. And South Park: The Stick of Truth. That's hardy comparable.

The last proper RPG by them was New Vegas. I played The Outer Worlds. Twice. Once on Game Pass and once on Steam including the DLC. Close to 80 hours in game. It's not a proper RPG, not even close.

I consider the outer world an rpg aswell, i guess you have a more strict meaning of the word rpg.

That's all you played? Outer Worlds and Fallout New Vegas? And you're talking shit on Obsidian?
He is not talking shit tho, at best we were discussing what we consider an rpg.

he even had the guts to play the mediocrity that was outer world twice...

The Outer Worlds it's an RPG, just not a proper RPG. You can argue that Horizon Zero Dawn is an RPG. Like you have said, RPG term is overused these days.
Well i think that the outer world is much of a proper rpg than horizon, like not even close.

Horizon only has the combat aspect being rpg, you don't have choices or different methods to finish a mission etc, it is very action-y throught and through.

I didn't played vegas so i'm probably missing something that is not present in OW.

Outer Worlds was pretty good considering it had such a small budget. With Microsoft backing them I think they'll be able to produce better.

Agree to disagree for the first half (matter of taste i guess), finger crossed for the second half.

So Obsidian's making proper RPGs. You just have shit taste.

Look at this guy. Obsidian fan #1. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I never said that I don't like Obsidian games, genius.

Fallout 1, a game from 1997 offers me more role playing possibilities than The Outer Worlds, newest RPG from your favourite developer. My taste is just fine buddy.

Have you played piranha byte games? they should give you what you search and then some.

(pretty sure that you already played them tho)

Hell yeah. Sadly Piranha Bytes games are on the same trajectory as Obsidian games. And let me tell you it's not up.

You think the 2 elex weren't enough rpg?

Shit you can do the fuck you want in these games...

Or it was something related to writing, world building etc.?

No, I've meant that their games are too junky for today's standards. That shit was acceptable in the 90s and early 00s, not so much today. Or maybe I'm old and my patience is gone. I'm sure I would love Elex if I could ignore all the junk and questionable design decision. There's a great RPG experience underneath it all. Maybe I should try it give it another try on the Deck.

I think your patience is gone but you are also right, combat is fucking terrible in these games.

Give them another try, elex 2 is a bit better combat wise but you would lose all the world building and recurring characters from the first one if you only play that one.

Exploration and sense of progression\freedom is great in these games.

Just remember to play at max difficulty, they lose their raison d'etre if you play at any other difficulty.

Every game developer that includes a complex first person magic system in their games should be forced to play Lichdom Battlemage all the way through, so they can see what NOT to do.

Dude.. what's wrong with your hands? No joke, you should get a wrist brace to help reduce wrist inflammation. I could hold my hands like this all day (metaphorically) but I do remember a time when I was having wrist issues. Wearing the brace consistently, helped alot.

Is New Vegas really that good? I mean i've played it but never really gotten very far. Currently playing The Outer Worlds and quite enjoying it.

It's obviously low resolution (720p, if that) and it doesn't say anything to how the game actually runs (30 or 60, how's the framepacing etc.), but...that looks pretty good for a pre-alpha, NGL.

Obsidian's always developed visually competent games but I dunno if they've ever made anything visually arresting. Not saying Avowed could be that game, I just think it looks pretty good for what's shown here even if it's low-res. But higher resolution images and some actual footage would really speak to how it looks in motion which is always more important.

I do quite like the way they do the magic casting, it's in line with the 2020 trailer. Hoping fidelity is at least close to that trailer as well, that would be awesome.

They said a short while ago that they plan to release 1 game per year till 2026 or something to that effect.

They've already put out Grounded and Pentiment is coming soon to round up 2 games for 2022.

2023 is probably Avowed, 2024 Outer Worlds 2 and the rest are still unannounced. My guess.

Zero chance you're getting Avowed in 2023 and Outer Worlds 2 in 2024; they're both modestly large WRPGs, going for at least high-end AA if not modest AAA scope from what I can tell. Grounded and Pentiment are much smaller games and the former was in beta for multiple years.

IF Avowed comes 2023, the earliest for Outer Worlds 2 is 2025.

I like NV, lots of rpg mechanics, different character builds and each quest has a ton of branching options and lots of different endings.

This should be the start of a raft of heavies from MS. I liked the look of what we saw but it was very brief last year. Could be something very special.

yeah , outer worlds had very shallow costumization options , like most of your skills didnt matter that much , the loot was very generic and almost everything looked the same , the only good thing about that game was that the choices really matters

as for the last good rpg from obsidian i would say its pillars of eternity ( there are some people that like POE 2 more but im not one of them )
