At least he isn't the one talking about evil governments and being a pretentious cunt for 80% of their concerts. Bad music I can at least deal with, but watching U2 was just painful, just a big ego with ugly sunglasses. The edge at least got a cool beard. :p

Have you guys learned nothing from Pop-Gaf?

He calls himself The Edge though

Talking about music I see. U2 used to be good, but they went all ego on us and since then, they have been producing shit after shit.

Speeking of which, I am really enjoying Beacon (Two Door Cinema Club) more and more since I first listened to it. Might be in my top 10 favourite Album of 2012.
The best Album year remains to be Worship by A Place to bury Strangers. What an amazing album!

He lives on the edge.

All that shit said about U2 though... Patrick Bateman going to a U2 concert in the American Psycho book is possible the best thing ever written down. Spoilers :
Bono tells Patrick Bateman that what he is doing is alright and that Bono himself also kills people.

I just don't know what he's talking about unless I go over each detail at least twice. The sentence structure is all over the place, there's a heap of needless/pointless detail, its meandering and has a cringeworthy air of trying to draw the reader into some sense of inside knowledge and immediate familiarity with the vernacular.

I'm only like 10 pages in, but so far its every problem I had with TTSS magnified by a hundred

I thought there was decent enough intent behind the decisions with the vernacular; the prose is definitely TTSS magnified by a hundred, probably brought on because Le Carre was exploring an East Asian environment that was a departure from the usual London-based intrigue. It certainly aided how the novel parsed the misogyny and classism and ethnocentrism of the era. The Circus and high-level English institutions were very much a sub-culture back then, so the concern with nailing the atmosphere was appreciated. It took a while for me to sink into the world, but once I was there, it just whirled by and I didn't feel it was copiously detailed so much as concrete and dense and deliberate. One thing's for sure, I doubt a novel like that could get published today - categorized as a 'thriller' at least.

When you guys talk about music as if you can objectively say one's taste is better than the other, like that one live performance is superior to another, it makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

All music is sparkly noises and flashing lights, of course there's going to be a polarised opinion. Nobody is correct.

Marco Van Basten is 48 years old today. One of the best players to ever grace our shirt, who also had to retire early (at 30) due to his fragile body. He's one of the most important players of the Berlusconi-era, among Baresi, Maldini, Shevchenko, Kakà, Gullit, Rijkaard, and won everything with Milan, multiple times. Plus, he's one of the few players to have won three Balon d'Or. Happy birthday cigno!

I like how you felt the need to explain who he is / was, hehe. Whoever doesn't know the above has no place in Footy-GAF, seriously. Happy b-day, Marco!

Everything after pop is listenable, but I think that's when they were last brilliant... the stadium gigs they did for the popmart tour looked incredible too.

I went to the Vienna PopMart concert. I'll always remember it for being an incredible experience and because I almost came to blows with an austrian U2 fan. I think it might have been spidye.

Txiki apparently interested in bringing both Isco and Beñat to MCFC. The more Spaniards, the better.

Sweet. Isco's a real player, not seen anything of Beñat. Aren't Malaga on the verge of extending his contract, and isn't he content at the club, though?

Feel the same way about anything else really. I am always annoyed when people claim that a movie they like is 'objectively' good or a movie they didn't like is 'objectively' bad.

Yeah, I posted something the other day that said Malaga are offering Isco a 3 or 4 times increase on his wage that will also double his release clause. Of course, if he's willing to wait 2 months he could probably get a contract that is worth 10 times what he is making now.

I am unfamiliar with Beñat as well -- he is apparently a DM for Betis who does well at getting forward. Came from Bilbao's academy.

Why what happened?

The usual. It was before the concert. A friend of mine (who understood and spoke german) had an unpleasant verbal exchange with a drunken austrian asshole and things escalated quickly from there. I intervened, the guy took it on me. Thankfully some of the others from my group joined in and divided us before things went from bad to worse. :)

I would've totally destroyed the asshole though.
Or so I like to tell people.
