That's about the same plan I have in Japan. iPhones are free here if you start a new contract, but 18mo. is pretty cheap. Its about 30/mo. for the same plan.

How it should be done:

Everyone is given a card with their NHS number printed on it. Everyone makes a username/password combo linked to the number. Book appointments online using this information. If you're notin the database, you book by phone. If you lose your details, you pay a small fee for the reminder/appointment

How its done now:

I always got the impression that he was appreciated rather than loved by the Aussies, but the reception to his retirement shows how clearly wrong I was

edit: No appointment for me today then. Only real problem I have with the NHS is the mid-urgency appointment system
