For Honor |OT| And shame are huge parts of it

What's pay to win about it?

If I had to guess... Can you buy the chests with real life money to get loot?

Personally loot doesn't matter to me much. I play Brawl and Duel which turn off armor stats... Wish there was a 4v4 mode that did that.

I don't know how much the stats even effect the game tho.

I loved the beta, but the full game is absolutely disgusting with its Microtransactions. When people already have great gear and every skill unlocked simply because they paid real money to do so is fucking infuriating in a competitive multiplayer game.

Not in the competitive modes.
And even in the 4v4s, gear isn't the end all be all. In the beta me and my friends fought a team that was reputation 2, with all blue gear. Their average gear score was 45ish. Ours was like 9. We destroyed them so bad half ragequit before the end of round tally began.

It can make a difference sure, depending on what build you are going for, but every huge bonus on high level gear comes with a huge penalty to some other stat. It isn't pay to win, not even close.

Two questions:

1) how do you deal with Assassins light attacks switching in all direction? Is there is simple way or is this a git gud at blocking moment?

2) How do you approach a shield guy if guardbreak doesn't work lol ?

using the Xbox One elite controller app on win10 only seems to work in the menus, not in-game. Can anyone verify they actually managed to remap in-game?

For Honor is the type of game I`m surprised anyone will support. Pay to win, always online for single player and bots (even if it`s bad), and a season pass on top of that. According to Steam reviews, people are getting disconnected all the time too.

There is no pay to win. Complaining about the single player online is pointless, the entire game is focused on MP. There is absolutely no reason to buy this game for only SP. It is true some people are getting disconnected a lot. However, it is only impacting some player, not all. Both my brother and myself have haven't been disconnected a single time in the open beta or after release.

The game is literally creating a new genre out of thin air. There has been no experience quite like this in recent memory. It obviously is building upon M&B, Chivalry, Bushido Blade, and fighting games in general; but there has never been something quite like this.

People are complaining about the price of cosmetic DLC and always online single player when presented with a game experience we have never had before. I don't approve of stupid prices for cosmetic DLC, but how is that a DEALBREAKER for an otherwise brilliant game? To me this is like refusing a brand new luxury car for the same price as an economy sedan because you don't approve of how much the manufacturer charges for custom paint jobs. My mind if figuratively exploding.

I've been playing games for 30 years now. It is not often I get to experience something that is completely fresh AND well executed.

This was a risky game to make and it came out wonderfully. It is not all things to all people. I can easily understand how this might have zero appeal to a large amount of gamers. To me the experience is quite magical. I get play as semi-realistic knights, samurais, and vikings in very satisfying medieval fighting game. Fuck yes.

Plus regardless of gear score... There is one great equalizer...

LEDGES.

;)

Seriously. I got someone to rage quit in Brawl cause I threw them off a ledge.

There were no review copies pre-release, but expect them to start trickling in tonight and over the next few days.

It should be said that no review copies were mostly because game is always online and servers were not up before yesterday due to beta usage.

One of my favorite memories of this game so far is in a 2v2 against this Peacekeeper who was kicking my ass (as they are wont to do) and I barely got any hits in, and it was only the first round. He got a bit too close to the ledge while dancing around me and I grabbed him and threw him off. He rage quit and his buddy followed.

So...haven't been able to get into a game yet. Just lots of matchmaking failed and network errors. :(

On Xbox. Guess Ubi decided not to add more servers eh?

Sooo... is there any way to get rid of text chat now? It seems to sort of semi-fade and never go away, as opposed to previous betas. I still want to be able to type, just not see some idiots salt the entire match.

Same. I was able to get into a game here and there but it's mostly been network errors. Just turned it off. I'll try again in a few hours.

You can turn it off in the UI

Can you only deploy war assets after a match (in the match aftermath screen) or is there another way and im just totally missing it? I can be rather oblivious at times.

Haha, yeah. I mained raider in beta almost entirely because I loved the grapple game and throwing people off cliffs and into other environmental hazards. Too much Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur I guess.

Ring out!

Cheapest place for PC? Seems average cd key price is about $44-46AUD, so roughly $60ish in Australia. Half tempted just to go Big W for that Woolworths 5% off.

So the stuff you can buy doesn`t affect gameplay?

The stuff that you can buy that effects gameplay gives you a much higher gear rating, and matchmaking uses both player reputation and gear rating to find appropriate matches. Chances are someone who buys their way to the top hasn't spent the time to get as good with the better gear, so there's not really anything to worry about unless the matchmaking fucks up and has to give you someone with much better gear than you.

I can't figure out what hero archetype the vikings with two hand swords are meant to be in story mode, but their obnoxiously delayed swing timer never fails to put me in a rage on hard/realistic mode with several of them surrounding me. Every melee game has to have that one enemy with the lazy swing that seems to defy the laws of physics, and I hate all of them.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

I'm like, level 2 and I beat people level 15 and even prestiged people.

Gear helps you enhance your specific play style, but it doesn't really give you any significant advantage over a skilled player since it always subtracts traits when you equipment, there are no straight adds.

Man that Viking with the shield is super fucking fast. Almost lost to that guy. Have to learn the newer characters from late in the beta, didn't play those.

I agree, but it can be discouraging to someone brand new to the game if they get mismatched, especially if the geared up person is also highly skilled.

How do you deal with constant shoulder charges from a warden?

You can counter a guard break. You need to press X right after they hit you. If you haven't played the advanced tutorial please go do that. You'll get 1500s and learn how to guard break counter out of it.

This is true.
Hope they practice on bots instead of giving up too quickly

Talking about the orange shoulder charge.

I'm not sure why this game is getting attacked for its microtransactions when Siege is set up very similar and has few complaints

Is it the same as Siege? That's such a good model.

I remember a few people complained about the Siege model at launch too and I still don't quite frankly understand those complaints.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see how much bot support there seems to be with different modes in the game. I'm not sure I'd stick with the game long term if I was only interested in fighting AI, but it's a nice option for relaxing and honing your mechanics. During the beta I accidentally played about four hours against that dumb lvl 1 duel bot without realizing it because I wanted to master all of the different hero techniques (I did not succeed in mastering any of them).

I don't entirely understand For Honors microtransactions as I don't own the game yet, so I don't know what exactly all the items and abilities are and how they impact gameplay

But Siege also has 'gameplay' perks that can be purchased, ie the weapons mods.

Scopes, silencers, grips, you name it. Things that affect accuracy, damage, stealth, etc. But none of it really makes a big difference as the core of the game is in things like reaction time, strategy, teamwork, positional awareness, etc. If you are good at these things and know the map, a newbie with a scope and recoil dampener has no chance against you.

It's entirely possible For Honor's purchasable perks are unfair but so far I don't see anything that indicates that it will noticeably impact a person's ability to play and enjoy the game.

By the time you reach the level of skill where those things come into play I suspect you'll have unlocked most of the anyway.

Edit: It has been pointed out that the Siege modifications can only be purchased through currency earned by playing the game, not real money. So in this case the games do differ, but I maintain my position of skepticism over how much actual benefit the For Honor purchases will provide

Yea, that sounds about the same. I guess maybe it's the pricing? I haven't played my copy yet but the only thing I can think of is that Siege weapon mods are fairly cheap.

But even then, For Honor doesn't even apply bonuses in duels and such.
