Marathon is not at the State of Play. No release date, nothing. Marathon is not about to be imminently discussed in some longer Bungie presentation after "going dark.", earliest we will see something more from Marathon is November, "maybe" for now

  • The earliest we will see something more from Marathon is November. And that's a "maybe," right now

"You'll hear from us again later this Fall when we can share the progress we've made, alongside the game's new release date. Thank you again for your patience and— much more importantly— your passion. Your continued feedback will help us make Marathon the incredible gaming experience we all know it can be."

This is a good thing, thank god.
Just imagine the suffering of watching that cringe convoluted colorful presentation, its pure torture.

Monumental disaster, all of this. So many good potential original Playstation games sacrificed for dumb as fuck reddit-tier circlejerked greed.

I cant say Im quite on the bandwagon of 'hurr durr cancel it', like IT COULD be good, the setting is already pretty great and there is potential…HOWEVER, it should have been a Marathon Trilogy remake, just singleplayer, zero multiplayer to build up some goodwill for Bungie. Sigh…

Oh look a FPS PVP online only lobby game. Yipee.

It will actually be a great buy if you ever need to ween someone off gaming or just hate them in general.

Just cut your losses and get back to smashing out single player titles every 12-24 months.

They can afford to take the hit. They need to.

By hit, I mean this games entire development and the Bungie team themselves.

It's a waste of time. Do away with it now before spending more money on pressing a game no fucker cares for.

My guess, their lawyers told them to do a deep dive on the art and found a lot of stolen stuff, from a lot more people than just the one who called them out, and now they have to redo the art. That's one of the most time intensive parts of development.

The target on Marathons' back ain't going anywhere unless they make a single-player / cooperative campaign & component to the game. The extraction shit won't and never will catch on, especially to the point where these morons think they can monetize and squeeze people like they do in Destiny 2.

Pete Parsons is gone, so fuck off for 2 years and make something people want to play.

Divert the funds for this crap to revive OG PS IP like jak and daxter, ape escape, warhawk, resistance, wipeout, killzone or socom.
Absolutely. You don't need a COD killer (Impossible goal anyway. Even for Battlefield), but an awesome Killzone or Resistance entry that can still sell some 10+ million is far better than keeping crap like Marothon alive.

do you really think resistance or killzone can sell 10 million... i have serious doubts.

I don't want to interfere with peoples' wishcasting but I think people crazily overestimate the popularity of these series.

Neither of those games are selling 10+ million units.
Maybe 5 million + which is a good number. There is hunger for killzone and resistance game for this generation. Too much gaas and gatcha games already and gamers are tired of this craps already especially with insertion of woke agenda in it.

Massive userbase, big marketing. They can definitely get close to that, yes.

Hell, Sony could probably buy the Halo rights from Xbox and make an entry that would sell 4-5 times what it would on an actual Xbox console.

Unless they completely change the game's mechanics, I really don't see it succeeding. Which really, really sucks. The amount of time, money, and effort being put into this and it's very likely either not going to come out, or will be cancelled. UNLESS they DO change a LOT about the game, but at this point is it even worth doing?

Horizon Zero Dawn sold some 20 million. It's definitely possible, and definitely worth a shot compared to something like Marathon.
Neither Resistance 1, 2, 3, nor Killzone 1, 2, 3, 4 ever sold more than 3-4 million units. Based on the numbers, players are not tired of live service games. When was the last time a military FPS game not named Call of Duty sold more than 10 million?

I love both those franchises, but there's a reason they haven't come back in over 10 years.

Something like Horizon has a much wider appeal in this day and age than Killzone and Resistance. If either of these games come back, they're definitely coming back as live service MP games of some kind.

Didn't Sony say it'll be released before March 31, 2026?
That's what they said last month, but I wouldn't be surprised if that changes.

Well, the good thing about this, at least this SOP won't be that bad, still gonna be bad, but Flopathon would have made it worse...

I'm going to take a different approach to this and be thankful. It means they at least are listening to so degree. They want to make a good product. These delays give me heart it will be ok.

I get how incredibly naive this is but I'm still holding out hope.
