Forbes: Marathon Info - Bungie's "Morale is in “free-fall” - “The vibes have never been worse.”

In the Luke video at around the 6:30 mark he says that devs said you need some PVE but leadership said no.

Not surprised one bit. When it comes to creativity whether it's higher ups or a grunt worker doing it, there's something about media where people dont like following recos. Whether it's their own employees or gamers or movie watchers giving feedback, there's some kind of ultimate ego tripping where someone always thinks they're Steven Spielberg and knows what's best. And they wonder why when the product releases and everyone laughs at it. Maybe look into the endless free feedback you get from people.

It's like at my company where the marketing dept would tell the advertising agency they hire to do art and TV ads or whatever and some reason they dont want to change it because acording to them they know best. Then after back and forth stonewalling, one of our VPs or directors has to get involved and push it through by sheer rank and telling them we are paying the fees.

It's always such a weird attitude. If I do a spreadsheet and something is wrong, or someone makes a reco they think it's better, or maybe my boss says were doing it his way, you kind of take it all in stride and follow it unless there is something truly wrong with their reco like their formula or analytics are wrong. But if it sounds reasonable, you agree as a team and everything is smooth.

But I get a sense if the marketing guy tells the ad agency they want some colour adjustments or font size changes, it's always a big commotion to get them to change it. And that's even our company paying for the service. And they still kind of dont feel like doing it.

Weird people like they all think they are Picasso.

They should tell Microsoft they're sorry and ask if they can get Halo back. It's not like it's been in better hands since they left. And they would escape all the pressure and scrutiny given their track record with that franchise.

What makes you think current Bungie can save Halo? Current Bungie couldn't even save lore rich Marathon, let alone Destiny.

Also, to escape all the pressure when they part ways with MS because they were pressured to make Halo game?

it's directly from the artist

As an artist myself looking into this the biggest claim they have might be the wording with this ALEPH text Based on how specific it is but in any type of motif with yellow or squares or triangles or any of this shit is not really something that other artists legally is going to have much of a claim on, Please understand these type of general shapes don't really have ownership which means somebody freely could use them.

That's like me fucking making a series of blocked squares and then trying to attack an entire industry saying that they're copying me as if I invented the square. The double triangle thing is too generic and btw not invented by that artist in the first place, it is a symbol generally used in military maps to mean advancement or reinforcement etc, its not owned by any one person.. Using that logic, thats like saying Chevron should sue the original artist as if they invented those shapes lol

256x256.png

everyone about to get sued lol

So it's very difficult to copyright something like style because it makes up too many generic components

So they might have a better argument with the wording ALEPH ( For their sake they better hope copy wrote their stuff )

Sony will never close Bungie. It is too big to fail.
Doubtful it seems like the investment in Bungie has more to do with them assisting in their future networking endeavors that's just too big of a solid team to just randomly let go.
Its also too big to run if its games fail.
I mean I don't disagree but what game failed? I mean you guys are arguing about the possibility of a company closing down based on the game made by 300 people that didn't even fucking release yet ,while ignoring one of their most successful games literally still having people playing it as it has DLC releasing soon.

If this game fails I don't think it's gonna do much to this company they already have a bunch of other things in line anyway... That's like trying to fucking say the GTA trilogy remaster failing is going to make Rockstar shut down lol

Why do I get the feeling this will be Concord Part 2.

If it does end up being that, it must surely mean Herman gets kicked out on his arse right? RIGHT?!

But Michael Jordan is laughing man, why ?

Tell him Scottie was better. See if he's laughing then

waitwaitwaitwaitwait are you saying what i think you are saying?

*using chat GPT to be sure if I read correctly.

🫢... Does your level of shillness know no boundaries? I know Sony owns Bungie, but
jQuc39h.gif

Bungie already admitted to art theft, and this is not really an issue of copyright.

Bungie also stated that the issue is minor and they refrained from livestreaming the game until this week, so they can make sure they took all references out.

This does fall in line with what EDMIX EDMIX says.

Why?

Not every game is going to be slam dunk though, what genre exist where any publisher has a 100% batting average or something? lol I'm sorry man, this is too hyperbolic and wildly exaggerated.

If you guys can't even tell me 1 publisher that is doing this at 100%, its odd to make it sound like THIS GAME not doing well is some wild idea and someone should be kicked out if it doesn't do well

Concord and Marathon are made by 2 different teams, so unless someone has evidence that Herman made both games was like like "Do this exact thing to them" and that "thing" made both fail, it sounds like a reach and folks wanting to connect dots to just argue.

Thats like saying someone should be fired for Knack 2 failing, Order 1886, Gravity Rush 1 and 2 etc and then be like "Single Player games are failing" (decides to ignore all the other ones doing well, but tries to force a connection with the ones that didn't do well) lol I think if it doesn't do well, its ok...not everything, everyone makes will move records units and its a bit odd to make it sound like that was ever the norm in any genre, by any publisher.

So I don't see why Herman would get "kicked out", nothing is guaranteed in this business and rather odd to make it sound like the team that made Halo and Destiny, can have zero flop.

? I mean..i even tell you "So they might have a better argument with the wording ALEPH ( For their sake they better hope copy wrote their stuff )"

I don't know what to say man, its like anyone that isn't 100% just bashing Bungie is a "shill" to you lol

Sorry bud, I don't see enough here with everything that was shown to say they stole much as the artist that is making this claim didn't invent the color yellow or square or 2 triangles or anything odd like this, but the exact placement, wording of ALEPH etc they have a way better argument there they should go with.

I'm not even sure how that is being a "shill" as I'm just saying some of their claim is better then the other claims.

Bungie also stated that the issue is minor and they refrained from livestreaming the game until this week, so they can make sure they took all references out.
why? because legal is on the case, Bungie also scraped their next marking cycle too.

is it minor? This is huge from an ethical and professionalism point of view. no one is going to jail buddy.

This does fall in line with what EDMIX EDMIX says.
Nope

Aside from the whole circus going on, the fundamental problem is that people can play good comparable titles for free.

F2P has made this a very tough space to compete in. Not enough people will drop cash buying Marathon if they can get the same kind of gameplay at no cost.

this is not about copyright.

I'm not important. Everyone is bashing Bungie because they're a shitty company, and their leadership are scumbags. It's in the reports

😬 yikes, you are double down..

I'm not even sure how that is being a "shill"
lack of self awareness.

as I'm just saying some of their claim is better then the other claims.
again, Bungie already admitted to it. what you say is irrelevant.

Major reason nobody can ignore + the amount of successful games out there makes the competition even harder

They stated that the presence of those textures were minor and they should all be gotten rid of by now.

That's what they were talking about. This friday they will livestream their internal playtesting again to show ow the visual improvements.

The legal stuff is a different matter that's it's being worked out with the artist.

lol nah, I think it minor.

They can change the wording, they cans use different shapes and still convey the same idea quite well.

I'm not saying this is ethical in any way shape or form, but is a much easier fix then I think many of you think..

I mean, I just did this in 15 min...

I think you're missing the point regarding some of the originality stuff in the artist's work. The reason he showed shit like the glyphs is to reinforce the link between the other more obvious examples beyond coincidence; it just supports the larger claim that it was a deliberate lift of his work, not really about "buhhh AnYoNe CaN MaKE a TrIANgle"

Rest assured this person is gonna get paid.

Is this video going to reach 1M views in the next 24 hours?.

The only way I can see Sony moving forward with Marathon is if the open beta in 1–2 months gets the same praise as Arc Raiders. Slam dunk, right?

this company is not worth keeping around. at this point Sony should just kill it. as simple as that.

A long delay to make a complete redesign and add a good sp campaign can fix it. Or they could turn it into Destiny 3, just scrap that whole neon color design idea and go full Destiny on it.

If they release as it is this year with minor tweaks just to remove the stolen art it's gonna flop.

? huh? I'm not arguing if someone can or can't make a triangle, I'm saying he didn't invent that symbol....

So...my point is merely their best argument is more the that ALEPH example.

The entire thing with the shapes is too generic and they are not even the first or only ones to do that to make a claim, I'm sure they will settle out of court, I'm sure they will get paid, my point is merely its likely not going to be from any of those shapes.

lol nah, I think it minor.
again, irrelevant what you think, the entire internet is shitting on Bungie and if you think this is not going to further damage marathon's already shaking prospects of sucesss...😬 🚨denial alert, denial alert 🚨

I'm merely saying that fix is faster then many of you realize if I can do that in 15 min or so.

I think you are obsessed with this studio a bit too much man, none of this is the end of the world.. I think you are putting a lot of hope in "public relations" when I don't know majority of gamers to buy games based on those reasons. Marathon will live and die based on if its good or not, as in if its actually fun to play.

🙄.
again it is completly irreverent what you think. the reports are in the wild and public sentiment is at full display for those who are intellectually honest 🤷🏼‍♂️

Destiny 1 got itself into a much much bigger shitstorm leading up to it's release and even quite some time after it's release.

It isn't always what it seems.

I dislike these colors. It's like they're missing just enough tones to be better looking versions of the spectrum.

Ironic, considering the studio drama over the years. Maybe it's a cry for help.

lol NP, I just wanted to randomly make something to prove how easy it is to correct any of it. I could choose a more neon type color, I feel white over red with the text could have been a better choice etc lol

Like this..

or this

It's not you, personally. You nailed their tone.

Their entire approach to the tones they've chosen for each primary color all seem to suffer from that. Leaves one feeling that of discomfort.

Maybe it's their intention.

If Marathon is a dud (likely at this point) and Edge of Fate misses (also likely) then I think Bungie is in big trouble.

yea, I don't think they will be in big trouble based on this and some DLC

They have Destiny 3 and some other new IP they are working on.

We've heard comments like this from developers that literally had many, many misses like Bioware and folks been saying that shit for fucking generations now lol

Yet we should worry cause 1 game and some DLC with Bungie?

Yea...I don't know about all that. It will take a massive flop like Destiny 3 to really put them in trouble, but even that flopping isn't some automatic shut em down type thing though

Again, look at Bioware, ya'll got a list of games you hate by that developer, yet they still exist. So...maybe 1 game isn't magically going to make em go aware or something lol

Just my 2 cents on it.

Half the studio works on this and half on D2.

How are they developing D3 and another IP?

Less than half.

Only about 1/3, sizeable but certainly not half.
Whats less than half?

They have 300 devs on Marathon, im assuming the same for D2.

Theres what 800 odd folks at Bungie in total? Unless you are saying that the other 200 are actually devs?

I never said anything about D3.

Afaik going by comments from Bungie, they have 300 out of 850 employees working on Marathon and the rest working on D2 content.

And then there's TeamLFG that got moved onto it's own studio.

Ok then? so nobody to work on D3 or this other IP the poster i was replying to

Team LFG is not part of Bungie.

I don't think they are working on anything other than D2 and Marathon.

They had that Gummy Bears or whatever, but that has been spun off onto it's own under TeamLFG.

Unless I missed something, they aren't working on D3.
But I know as much as you do, so I can only go by what I've read so far.🤷🏾‍♂️

You missed something. EDMIX EDMIX claimed they are working on D3 as well as a new IP along with Marathon and D2. My OG response was to that.

Yeah, I know.

I was just responding to 'half of Bungie'.

But it seems like some things got people confused, because afaik Bungie never said they're working on D3 and that other project is Gummi Bears (TeamLFG).

Unless I'm confused now as well. Lol

I just meant roughly half of the actual dev's.

Thats just my opinion they are working on Destiny 3.

I see no reason for them not to. I'd argue that is a massive reason why Sony bought them, on top of their history of networking with MP games
