Forbes: Marathon Info - Bungie's "Morale is in “free-fall” - “The vibes have never been worse.”

Fooking A brother

Thing is, this would require literally 2 more years (3 'cause this is Bungie we're talking about) and about another couple hundred of millions...
Even IF they did this, at best, this could be a Halo infinite 2.0 case where...we all know how Halo infinite turned out to be (didn't move the proverbial needle in xbox's favor whatsoever), at worst, it'll have to sell an unholy amount of copies as to recuperate the costs (won't happen).

Basically, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't, Bungie is fooked either way.
How the mighty have fallen...
Halo infinite won goty here on gaf

I think Marathon won't do well irrespective of the drama around it. I just think the multiplayer craze is over to some degree leaving the big players that remain all the pie. Just look at what games are popular at the moment. Clair Obscure, Oblivion Remastered etc. Sony literally has a studio that made some the best FPS campaigns and they have them do this. The morale is low because they know they should be making something else.

There's honestly nothing wrong with those games. I take issue with it's the only thing Sony seems capable of, they used to have such a variety.

Sony needs more A and AA games.

What's Naughty Dog going to deliver this generation, 1 game? For 12 hours of game play through an entire generation that will be playable on PC? It can't keep going like this.

Even their hit studios don't know what the fuck they're doing it's been 5 years now since their last release and we've had a 30 second generated trailer showing us nothing.

1 new game for an entire generation from their top studio.

Pretty sure Intergalactic will be a longer game than that. TLOU2 is like 30 hours. But yeah.

Wasn't their morale already at record lows when they cut back on knitting classes after Sony started to demand better results a while back?

Anyway, I'm getting the vibe that the talent has been replaced with toxic positivity.

Hearing all the stories coming out from that studio, and all the virtue signaling they were doing over the years.

Reap what you sow. Doesn't sound like a fun place to work, but rather, a walking on egg shells oppressive atmosphere with bright colors to mask the pain.

I'll still give it a chance, but the common thread in all the alpha streams and vids was a lack of tension during gameplay, and that makes extraction shooters what they are. There weren't any moments of impending doom. It was either getting smoked quick or lazily extracting. Even the Division had its tense standoffs with other teams during extraction. Nothing like that here.

Best quick fix they can make: lose the movement cool down. Teams can cover more ground that way, meaning they'll encounter each other more.

That poor art director put together the whole game based on the style of stolen assets

I'd look the same way lol
I was trying to understand what it looked like he was feeling and yeah shame might be it. Shame and hello darkness my old friend.
I can't joke too much about it, it hurts looking at him, he's in a very dark place for sure 😞

Intergalactic will be longer than 12 hours.

And it will be a Game of the Generation contender. It will have top of the line everything, and be polished like nothing else. Its Naughty Dog, this is what they do, and the wait is always worth it.

They also have 2 games in development, I can say the same for the other mystery game too.

They stick to their strengths and do good work.

BUNGIE on the other hand... Is chasing a GAAS trend and abaonding what made them famous completely, as well as what their audience wants. How this game has no Single Player component is beyond me.

They should tell Microsoft they're sorry and ask if they can get Halo back. It's not like it's been in better hands since they left. And they would escape all the pressure and scrutiny given their track record with that franchise.

I agree they are abandoning what made them great. The notion they are chasing a trend is hard to accept in this instance though. They were, literally, part of the trend as D2 is as live service as it gets.

This reeks of stupid people who "know better" than the people that actually made their company succeed. Basically, an end result of giving every kid a participation trophy, and always agreeing the kid was right and it was the teacher, police, firemen, and rational adults who were wrong their whole lives.

Sorry for the rant. Just getting more mind blown as time goes on that we are even discussing this game and not Destiny 3. What a bunch of ass clowns who made that decision.

Paul Assi stating the obvious, 🤔 Game Journalism much?

When it rains, it pours.

This is extremely frustrating to watch play out. I'm not even a massive Bungie fan, but I recognize their past success, and I'm annoyed at the amount of mishandling on their part.

And people have seen this happen too many times now, with other games and other studios. How many more times does this scenario need to play out before it finally stops?

What a fucking waste.

Making levels, NPCs, coming up with an interesting story, cutscenes, etc is hard.

It's much easier to make a few maps, let players shot at each others in them and charge an entry price + sell cosmetics on the side.

I'm not surprised about the Bungie leadership issues. This isn't their first time plagiarism case. It stinks of a deeper rooted problem within their culture.

Frankly, there generally seems to be a widespread "Boeing"-esque leadership problem plagueing the AAA industry. Very few, if any at all, appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into their goods.

Microsoft should send them Bonnie Ross to help Bungie sort themselves out.
Really shows how much they cared about not being caught. This could have been a watermark or a dickbutt and it would have gone straight to the final product.

I knew they were in trouble when they were promoting their "DEI" guest speakers for the company. Deej was one of the first ones to hit the door.

Bungie is done. Make no mistake, Marathon will be the end of them as we know em.

They indeed are reaping what they sowed.

A match made in heaven. They should never have gotten a divorce.

On the other hand...imagine if the first Halo after they come back is even worse than what we have. Their pressure to deliver would be huge, and yeah, I'm not exactly sure they can anymore, who knows. Unless you mean financial pressure, because it's Microsoft lol.

This debacle spread like wildfire. Lots of big streamers have posted about since it happened (including some big Destiny fan with 1.1M subs. I forget his name but it's something like Lord Byf).

Someone posted that antireal's original post already has 10M views on Twitter/X. By now it's got to be more too.

IGN and Gamespot did an article too. Granted they've been pretty lenient. Quiet one and done articles. But still there. But when I went to their sites I had to search Marathon to find an article about it as they didnt want to put big news like this on the home page.

Would be hilarious if they shit the bed with Marathon and Microsoft buys Bungie from Sony....to replace Halo Studios

Even my mother in law in her 70s has heard about it lol

Is this video going to reach 1M views in the next 24 hours?.

The only way I can see Sony moving forward with Marathon is if the open beta in 1–2 months gets the same praise as Arc Raiders. Slam dunk, right?

this company is not worth keeping around. at this point Sony should just kill it. as simple as that.

This was my first time watching any Marathon footage at length. It's Concord part 2 confirmed.

they probably milking d2 as long as they can.
How much can possibly be left? I was a yearly player for 10 years, but signed out for the last time at the end of the final shape not to return.

I think for many players, it's run it's course

There's no point in any of those sites even attempting to run interference for this (I assume they're not). It's far too big to ignore. There's no trying to write off the negativity surrounding the game as people being "toxic" like what a few sites attempted to do with Concord's failure.

Like, I've spotted some people elsewhere having an issue with content creators on YouTube covering Marathon "drama". As if there is any good news to cover with it. Why pretend otherwise?
