Peter Moore recalls the Xbox 360 and PS3 rivalry and reveals that he always knew that Sony's Killzone 2 demo was bogus.
Twenty years ago at E3 2005, Sony showed off a Killzone 2 video as an example of the PlayStation 3's power over its rival console, Microsoft's Xbox 360. However, Sony later admitted that the Killzone 2 video wasn't actually gameplay footage and that it was meant to be a "target render" for the team to achieve. Now, former Xbox boss Peter Moore has shared that he knew all along that the Killzone 2 demo was "BS."

This now infamous trailer showcased a level of detail and fidelity unlike anything we could imagine at the time and for good reason - the trailer was completely pre-rendered
At E3 2007, Killzone 2 received its first proper reveal with a new look at the game running on actual PlayStation 3 hardware. No, it didn't match that pre-rendered trailer but the team got closer than anyone could have imagined in terms of pulling off the look and feel.

I think everyone thought their was no way it was real.
Has Sony ever done this again since?
I feel like they learned their lesson after the controversy with this one

If I had to level any complaints at the game, it would be that perhaps the final game doesn't quite match up to the full promise of the incredible E3 2018 demo embedded above. Don't get me wrong, it's close, but the animation work and shading doesn't quite live up to the full promise of that remarkable vertical slice.

It was one of the best shooter game on PS3 when it came out.

I really miss the online from KZ2.

I had some complaints with KZ2, such as the delayed controls, but the fact that I still loved the game despite those issues (issues for me, I should say) really speaks to just how well it was made overall. KZ3 was a decent follow up, but Shadowfall wasn't. Still enjoyed the online for Shadowfall at least, just not to the same degree as 2.

Never mind the KZ difference. I dont think it was that far off. If you really want to see a ginormous difference, compare Motorstorm initial trailer to the real game. It's like night and day.

Well the game came out and it looked better than anything on 360 except for maybe Gears 3 and Halo 4 which came out much later.
Nah, Crysis 2 + Crysis 3 had better graphics and more advanced tech on 360 even better than all halo games

"Crysis 2 on console is an exceptional release.
phenomenally attractive game, producing effects quite different and in many ways more advanced than anything we've seen elsewhere on console. We all wanted Crysis on console to be an event, a showcase release: by and large, Crytek has delivered, and those cutting edge visuals are backed by a truly impressive game design".

" before we go into all of the details again i just have to stress how good crysis 3 still looks today i mean this was released before the last generation of consoles i think it still holds up, looks like a Ps4 and xbox one generation title in a way that kind of shocking".

"When it comes to advancing the state of real-time rendering technology, Crytek has long stood at the forefront of the industry.

"The fact that Crysis 3 runs on console at all is a remarkable achievement, with Crytek deploying a wide range of advanced rendering techniques"

"Crysis 3 is one of the most technically accomplished games of this generation, a visually spectacular piece of software that pushes graphical boundaries on all platforms.
And with all its graphical settings pushed to the max."

I still remember the gameplay reveal like it was yesterday. I remember earlier in the day or day before there was a very poor picture released and there was a lot of speculation around it not looking too hot but then the gameplay reveal.

Crysis 2 and 3 also came out for ps3 lol. Your quotes literally say "Crysis... on console", not Crysis on360.

I dont know why you need to akshully me on this, don't be a sperg. .

With KZ, it vaguely looked like a game .

The Motorstorm trailer was just flat out blatantly CG.

They made it look gamey and claimed it was real due to "Cell blast processing" or whatever the fuck. Quite a travesty now that I think about it.

I swear 1/2 years ago i saw people on multiple sites say that final game looks better than the 2005 trailer which is not true.
I think I can see what they mean. The trailer was a very CG look to the characters and it overall "cleaner" looking.

To me the trailer looks better but I like the way the actual game looks better.

Even at the time it felt pretty obvious that was not in-game controller in-hand gameplay, lol. SO many people believed it was though, I didn't quite understand how at all.

Ah yes 20 years after it happened, Peter Moore declares that at the time he knew it was fake. That's like me proudly announcing that I definitely knew what the lottery numbers were 3 months ago but I never bought a ticket.
