Forza Motorsport 4 - The Floodgates Have Opened...

Fuck, how long is it going to take until we find out what tracks we're getting? This information trickle has quickly gone from excitement-building to frustration-fuelling.

Edit: Would those "new" tracks be Infineon and Indy? And the day one DLC is American muscle cars. Bahahahaha.

There's still TGS for new reveals and yes, the new tracks are probably Infi and Indy,

Work in progress lol.

I r bored :(

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Whilst New York was a good/unique track to look at, it was terrible to race.
Hated long races on it.

So no loss there.

Awesome news all around. I personally don't care much about night racing or weather. Wet conditions would have been fun though.

So if you are lvl 50 do you get all the cars in that list or just the one AT lvl 50?

original.aspx
Probably everything at and below your level.

If you have the car on the left, you get the car on the right?
original.aspx
If you have one of those cars you get it in F4. There aren't two different cars on the left and right (year/mfg/model) :p

Ah, ok. I have owned and played through every Forza game and to this day I've never gone online with them. For me the draw to Forza is all of the tuning and customization so I typically just spend hours on end effing around with my cars and I never really get around to jumping online.

What's the consensus as far as the multiplayer goes in Forza?

I usually play offline. One day I got curious and joined a few races and every time I would overtake or just race clean, I' d get pushed into the rails. Have not tried it again since. I can only assume it is one of those 'must-party-up-with-friends-to-enjoy' type of online game.

So much PR bullsh** concentrated in a single webpage, it's stinks.

I find it weird that they have so much stuff as DLC when you consider that FM3 disc 2 was only 1gig (and that's including tracks). Can't believe they suddenly need 6 more gigs...

That whole paragraph about how they now have proper steering lock info and bla bla bla... All that is nice...except that the cockpit steering wheel will still not turn more than 90 degrees because they don't know how to cross arms...

Oh yeah...and don't bother talking how you are trying to trick us with the fake bumps on the tracks. Forza's track always looked like billard table, I don't expect it to change.

Haha I was just looking at that thinking "wait, I'm dumb" well, I know what to buy now as I'm lvl 30 and and havent spent mych money on stuff

I'm disappointed about the removal of New York, Sidewinder and Amalfi. Seriously?

One of the biggest knocks against Forza is the lack of track diversity and I don't think it serves Turn 10 to chop content.

Even more when you consider the fact that what they are adding is really bad...

Ok Infineon looks cool and I don't really know the track so I really want to try it. However, Hockenheim is really really boring.

As far as Indy goes well we already have Sunset Peninsula wich is actually an imitation that is better than the original...Now we'll probably have both in the game (which is stupid since they are almost the same thing) and it will add to the track number that the marketing department will be shouting left and right until release.

wow those under the hood articles are pretty informative.

I'm only upset by the remove of bugatti layout and just 25 AV cars.

edit: oh, and long amalfi off course. I demand a new long track now but I think the track list is already closed.

So, putting expectations in more of a realistic perspective:

We will get maybe one new track as DLC, either Spa or Bathurst, but doubtful both.

No Bugatti, and no full Amalfi is just 'what the fuck'....the loss of Sidewinder means a HUGE number of tracks gone, and the loss of New York, while not terrible, means zero chance of ever seeing NY Long back in the mix, which was a great track.

At this point, feature-wise, F4>F3, but its looking as if content-wise F3>F4, what with the loss of several environments, an entire make, and one of the greatest tracks in the game.

I really don't understand the loss of Bugatti, though....

Oh, and "Top Gear Soccer Field" qualifies as its own 'environment'......

What about Autovista?
At launch, Autovista mode will feature 25 experiences plus the 2012 BMW M5, which will be included as a free downloadable add-on on launch day.

26 cars? Turn 10 must know that it's far too few. This is going to be mentioned in every single review.

"Oh that's awesome new Autovista mode? It's awesome. But it's a small fraction of the cars in the game! What the hell?"

I can see why they removed Sidewinder and probably NY but why Amalfi full and Bugatti?

Exactly... Well Amalfi full is a lot bigger than the short circuit so I kinda understand (that's a lot of stuff to do) but wtf Bugatti?? They probably have something like 75% of the track done simply by doing the full track... and the rest is a forest lol how can that be difficult or time consuming??

Amalfi full might have been a resources issue. It was a very long and complex track, so it's possible their engine just couldn't handle it, either in lighting or with 12 or 16 cars. Sidewinder (full) might have fallen under the same issue.

Bugatti, however, is a complete mystery, and certainly one of the biggest losses.

By the way, what's the total number of cars in F3 with all the DLC?

This will undoubtedly be the single most common complaint in reviews and message board impressions. I also fully expected it, which is why I've hesitated to ever include Autovista as a new feature in any discussion.

After reading the full article, I got to hand it to Dan and Turn 10 on being very frank about the reasons for things being left out or changed. I can deal with no night and no weather if I have to. However, I'm still worried about the lack of news on tracks and i'm still bummed about only having 26 autovista cars.

If reviewers complain about the few cars in auto vista, then those reviewers are idiots.

It's like complaining there's not enough attract modes.

You are right on the bold, that has to be it.

I think people in general will realize how much better the current tracks will feel with the comb-over they did with the bumps and camera triggers (and lighting!) for all the current tracks and all the steering and suspension changes. The racing experience will definitely go up with all secret assists off options too. Do lose sight on the prize people, the racing!

We still have to hear about the customization changes too.. We will not be disappointed with the game even though we lost some track content and Porsche for now, there's no reason to go crazy over the losses imo, lets not go overboard lol.

These are changes I like! Shit tracks removed. Thank you very much T10. There was nothing more boring than racing New York, Amalfi and Sidewinder.

It's not that at all. Autovista will make people go "OMFG, I LOVE THIS" then they'll realize they have to unlock each one, then they'll find out a small fraction of the cars in game are featured. It's a huge, unsatisfying tease of something awesome.

I should add that i'm bitchy about this because I was hoping for closer to 50, even tho i suspected they'd have resource/time issues with getting such high poly models out at launch.

So I wonder what's the second easter egg for Autovista...

A Gears of War tank? I guess that would explain the "soon" since Gears comes out in 3 weeks.

Hmmm what else could it be?

The article just enforces my belief that T10 totally refocused their efforts on the racing from a gameplay point of view since people complained about FM 3 being a little bit stale/sterile.

Attacked from all angles with the lighting, sounds, suspension, steering controls, track responses to vehicles, remounted cockpit views and more cockpit movement, more cars on track, and ability to turn off all hidden assists.

Adding head tracking into the mix will enhance this as well, I for one am really looking forward to racing around the tracks a lot more now.

Are you EXCITE YET?!

I think these news is a good indication that next time they need more than just 2 yrs to incubate the project. So I hope Forza4 is the last 360 Forza and that Forza 5 will come about a yr into the next gen, or launch title if its 2014 I guess

Anything that they can build on from this when it comes to gameplay will be great, the content is just gravy.

Remember F355 challenge, 1 car and that's all you needed because the gameplay was so rich. I like the direction you are heading in with FM T10.

what!? turn 10 did an amazing job churning out LOADS of new content and improvements! its amazing what they did in a very short, 2 year time frame! [/wipeschin]

mutha fucka i am sooo pissed

The things that upset me most about Forza 4 have been revealed with this article. From here, my enthusiasm can only go up.

It's still my most anticipated game of the year.

FM4 will have the same or more content than FM3 (which is considered an amazing amount of tracks and cars by the public in general). Plus all the new modes, autovista, new graphics, etc.

You guys are making such a big drama =p

Amalfi full was a freakin' awesome track. It was fun just to cruise casually and take photos with. It seems like they put a lot of work into it just to cut it for 4.

And it's just frankly bizarre that the game is being released with less cars than Forza 3 Ultimate.

The gameplay improvements are welcome, but it seems like 4 should've gotten bigger, not smaller, especially with the extra gig or so they've got per disc thanks to recent security update. Reminds me of GT3 a bit.

I dunno, new lighting engine or not, I'm actually getting less excited as we get closer to release. It's like every new announcement so far brings something that was cut.

Edit: Oh God and even more unicorns? Just make every damn car a unicorn and they we'll just sit on their forums all day trying to earn cars just to play in the freakin' game.

That new under the hood is something...

Profile import rewards. Already talked about but specifics are cool. So basically, burn all your money in Forza 3 on the select cars for Forza 4, amirite?

Top Gear Soccer Field and Benchmark Test Track as day 1 DLC. Really? Really? I thought TG soccer was advertised as a multiplayer feature? And it's day 1 DLC? WTF is this?

New York and Sidewinder cut. Outside of some nostalgicly bad races, I will not miss either. Glad resources went elsewhere, but it's just going to feel weird without New York now.

Removal of Amalfi Long and Buggati La Sarthe. A shame, and little to no justification for these either. They will be missed. Amalfa long was fun as hell to play on. This is odd news and speculative explanations in this thread don't seem strong either.

Second Autovista Easter Egg to be revealed soon. Hope it's the Normandy. It's probably another Halo vehicle.
I actually hope it's a PGR5 model of the 458 or a GW arcade cabinet in Autovista mode.

14 Unicorn Cars. Cool rewards I guess for the devoted. But if there's something ridiculous with not a similar variant of car in the default roster anyways I'll be pissed. Withholding of content, much like the DLC ass rape this game will be getting Day 1, is never a good thing. Ever.

No weather or night. Expected, could care less, it's a novelty IMO.

I actually liked racing on the LeMans Buggatti variant. :/

I gotta do my preorder bonus stuff so I get those bonuses. I'm so lazy.

Every copy of FM4 comes with those tracks via a free DLC code, just like (I think it was) Sidewinder with 3. Guess it's to curb second hand sales or something.

My take on the new 'Hood announcements:

25 Autovista cars: With such a fairly low number, it seems more like a gratuitous tech demo that was bundled in rather than enhancing the depth of the game. Such a small number also decreases chances that each DLC will have one AV car included (which I personally was envisioning).
Unicorns: Fuck them. I never had the chance to drive the S204 in Forza 3 because it was a unicorn, now I won't be able to drive it in 4. Perhaps have them as cars you may get for accomplishing certain (maybe left-of-center) tasks, but not as something you actively have to find. And given that I stick mostly to single player in almost all the games I own, it's like they're punishing me for my personal preference (despite having a full gold XBL sub).

Shame about night/rain, but it's not a massive loss IMO. It would've been near impossible for them to do it with the quality I've come to expect from Turn 10, so it's good that they chose to skip it.

All in all, not that crushed about some of the things but the unicorn cars concept really, really pisses me off.

Agreed entirely on unicorns. I understand that you want to reward loyal fans, with something substantial even. But witholding such content with no similar or less prestigious options is just fucking over your average consumer at the end of the say.

Give me a GT-R, give the feisty a SpecV, just don't take away that model as an option altogether.

I like a lot of what I read, especially in physics, lighting and driver feedback. I'm looking forward to experiencing some of these handling changes on cars I've come to know and love.

Playing this on a controller without assists sounds scary as hell, but I'm glad its an option. That bit about going from lock to lock and experiencing the consequences just sounds like a dare to me. Good thing there are spacious test tracks ;P

Removing environments is a serious bummer, especially if we end up with less tracks overall than Forza 3. After the driving model, tracks are everything.

I can live without night and weather if it means smooth 60fps. Maybe small stage Rally is something they can manage within their current engine while maintaining that framerate.

I guess for me, its driving model > framerate > crisp visuals (not uber detail, just crisp and jaggy free without tearing) > track selection > car selection > upgrades > liveries.

And Unicorns? I'm not sure what those are except they sound like cars I'll never be hardcore enough to drive. Great.

They really could have killed the night and weather talk at E3 rather then their usual were not talking about that now answer. Also all the talk about tire data they answered no to wet but did they say no to dirt or gravel. Is there a chance rally might exist? If only for the change of pace.

The Halo Warthog looks like a LEGO....

Also, no Amalfi long is disappointing.

I'm hyped for this game and it's going to be better than FM3 - but I'm not sure if it's just this jam-packed holiday season or that I'm hearing about no Porsche (which is a big one for me, favorite make since I first learned what a car was), I'm just not as excited about this as I was for FM3.

Unicorns are cars that are basically rare not only within the game itself (locally), but within the entire community of the game. In other words, it almost always requires you to do something extraordinary, something like defeating someone who works for Turn 10 wouldn't be uncommon. The only other way would be to somehow miraculously find them on the marketplace and buy them before someone else does (provided you have the massive amount of coin that is likely to be charged for it).

I see it as a cheap way of forcing users to get online to get content that they paid for, not unlike the Facebook "liking" marketing technique. There's a fair chance that if I only stick to car clubs/races that involve friends that I won't have a hope in hell of getting any of them. It's a shame, because like I said earlier, I'd never had the opportunity to drive the Impreza S204 in 3 which really stung (being a Subaru fan). Now will I not only be able to drive that AGAIN, there's another 16 cars I likely won't be able to touch (not to mention the cheevo that comes with owning a unicorn).

Really, really bad form IMO. I can't even think of another game that does it this badly. Sure, there have been titles that offer achievements (like GTA4, having to shoot a R* employee or someone with that achievement) but they're not hard to do. I guess we just have to wait for the conditions to come out before making the final call, but like I said, you can bet that it'll be a struggle to get at least one, let alone all of them.
