I disagree. There was a far better track selection in 3.

I was always racing with friends so the lobbies never affected me.
not just the lobbies, with all assists off it was still hard to get oversteer unless you were in a 900hp car. permanent steering aid FTL

It really isn't anything near as hard as you're saying. I'm actually struggling to rid my 220hp E30 M3 of oversteer currently. And I have to worry about getting the rear end loose all the time with most all of my A-class cars. Granted, I nearly only drive RWD, but I'm not sure why you're struggling with it.

The only thing that Forza 2 did better than 3 was have user-hosted public lobbies and now those are back, we get 8 more players and we'll likely have the same epic scope of options as we had in Forza 3. I'm excited.

so? they set those cars up to oversteer, it doesnt change the fact you cant turn all the assists off in forza 3, dan even said so himself
So what? My point was that oversteer is perfectly possible. My cars are NOT setup to oversteer, but some do anyways. And of the ones not setup to, I can still get them to step out quite easily if I floor it too early.

You're either exaggerating how hard it is or you're doing something wrong.

my point is its harder than it should be, its not accurate, i havent played it in a while but i remember it was almost impossible get some oversteer going in my turbo supra mk3

This has been discussed at length on GTPlanet, the steering aid isn't remotely as sinister as people make out, it isn't ideal of course, but it's not remotely what people think it is (IMO).
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4238725#post4238725

The speed sensitive steering is a much worse issue (again IMO), but people seem to readily accept this and only see the wobbly steering..

That video you posted is getting old now, the guy shows a car that is easy to catch and shows the wobbly telemetry steering wheel data, and claims some uber massive assist, he made zero effort to isolate and analyse if it was that making the car easy to catch, or if it's inherent in the physics model..

All I will say is there are other games that are supposedly 1:1 steering, with excellent physics etc and yet you can pendulate a supercar side to side like this ad-infinitum.. The simple fact is, such assists that lead to the this behavior (softening of control) are normally buried deeper in the physics engine and aren't normally visible in any way, so people never question it..

All IMO..

I think it's power oversteer that people find absent sometimes, it happens to me, but this is more about the 'grip' then anything else, if you can get the rear wheels spinning, any glitchy steering isn't going to stop that, it will start to pendulate, but getting it 'going' with the physics setup in FM3 is tough for some cars.. The V8 aussie supercars are examples where they do nothing but oversteer at any throttle opening..

I dont remember driving that one specifically, but it may just be a case of you having that 'one bad experience' with that certain car cuz I assure you its not difficult to get oversteer in most cars. Saying that you can only do it with 900hp extreme cars is a gross exaggeration.

there were more i just remember that one specifically, i havent played forza 3 in quite a few months, but i remember having a hard time getting the tail to come out on corners of powerful RWD cars, i'm not a drifter but when i have traction control off in a turbo supra, i expect a little oversteer. i know forza 2 actually exaggerated oversteer but i found that more entertaining than the physics in forza 3

Well first up, all the manufacturer data we get, we mostly throw away! This is because we're either getting it from a licensing agent or a marketing agent, we're not getting it from the engineer who knows the real data. So we research cars – we actually go find out what it really does. We look at magazines such as Road and Track and Car and Driver, and we see what their test results are.

And we often notice that their test results are different. A manufacturer may say, this car does 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, but Car and Driver says 4.6, Top Gear may say 4.5, so you can't really trust any of that. We look at the simulation output and ask if we're getting the same range as those figures. And we have actually found issues in cars, we've called up the original manufacturer of the suspension, rather than calling up, say, BMW about the suspension. We might call KAW or H&R depending on who actually provided the springs, especially with older cars. We'll actually find out the real gear rations from the maker. We put all that stuff in and the car might understeer, it might oversteer, we've found some cars that just don't drive very well in the simulation. We don't fix it because that's how it really is.

How does the data transfer between Forza 3 and Forza 4 work? Will upgrades port over or just the base cars?
There's been so many changes to the actual models themselves, throughout the database and the whole game, that it's not an actual transfer. We're reading in the data between Forza 4 and Forza 3 and gifting cars into your garage. Car upgrades are not the same between the two games, so we can't just take them from one and put them into the other.
Interesting..

Are they(AV cars) all going to be supercars, classic cars et al?
No. We're going to have some surprises. Stay tuned! There are some very surprising cars

I don't know about the mk III, but the mk IV does oversteer quite easily.

Thanks a lot for the links saladine.

What's your relationship like with manufacturers? I mean, I understand the marketing opportunities that Forza must represent to them, but do they appreciate the design?
For the first time, I would say yes – and it's because of Autovista. Honestly, that's the first time they've said "this is crazy!". They want to show it to their board of directors. The idea of seeing the car on a giant projector and being able to walk around it via Kinect, that has definitely got different departments within these companies interested.

If you think about it, these are multinational companies and so generally most of us in the video game space deal with the licensing organisation. They have marketing organisations, they have design and racing organisations – and those groups don't necessarily talk to each other all the time, just like in any corporation. So for the first time, with Autovista, we reached the higher levels – the boards, the chief executives – we've got them thinking, "this has huge potential".

All of a sudden, we're getting calls from manufacturers saying "hey, we want to talk to you about this" and we'll say, "well, you know, we've already spoken – we talked to your licensing guys. They're in the same building as you!"

But for the most part dealing with the manufacturers has been fairly easy for us in that we're not making choices about gameplay, trying to make it arcade-y or silly. We can hide behind that we're a simulation. If they don't like something about their car in the game, we can say, well, you can not like it all day but that's what it does!

If you don't like it, go fix it. If you fix it in the real world, guess what, we'll fix it in the game.

It's very good that FM is finally getting some recognition. :)

How many cars are there in Autovista?

We're actually not announcing the number.
Wait, now I'm confused. Didn't he say 26 cars before?
At launch, Autovista mode will feature 25 experiences plus the 2012 BMW M5
I suppose they changed their mind about revealing the number of AV cars after this Gamescom interview.

I really hate how there has been practically ZERO videos promoting FORZA 4 on XBOX LIVE. There is a decent video up now but there's been practically nothing else. Forza 3 had all sorts of videos covering the livery editor to capturing the sounds of the cars. This is the type of game where I could seriously sit for hours watching "the making of" videos. Why must they torture me?

It should be the goal for this and GT. A person that doesn't know how to drive should be able to use a racing wheel and choose to drive something like a ford focus and improve their real world driving skills.

Again, more leaked info straight from Turn 10 themselves.

Off-topic: I'm reading a book right now called Watership Down. Any relation?

look to PC sims such as iracing for that, they have much more accurate physics

that happens already to an extent.
They can teach you stuff, playing GT and Forza with a wheel improved my real world driving, although it's mostly just theory and basic techniques.
I'm not sure it will ever work beyond that; the difference in feedback will always make driving in a videogame and in real life completely different experiences, regardless of a videogame's accuracy. You can't really learn how to interpret the feedback from your car, you can only learn to interpret visual clues from your monitor or feedback from your ffb wheel.

That picture from the article is one of the best photos of Forza 4 I have ever seen.

Yum that BMW picture is amazing

What impresses me the most about that picture is the quality look of the track details, specially the fan stands back there and the sky/lighting. Don't really like the way the road looks there but the camera is super close to it and the blur is on, maybe it would look better if that motion blur was off (shutter speed?).

-edit not that it looks bad in any way but the road is the weakest on the shot. At least we all know the roads will look damn good judging from all other released pics.

The road (and grass) look that way because whoever took that pictures combined shutter speed blur and depth of field blur. The same thing happens if you do it in Forza 3's photo mode.

I just hope the 288 GTO is back, since I consider it the perfect Ferrari.

It just has great alchemy of gorgeous lines and an amazing motor.
