next thing we ll see is the games intro and announcement of demo.

some people here are talking a lot of bullshit... weekly under the hood, some tracks had videos with background information and regular infos about cars&tracks + some screens.

you ll even be pissed if they start to lick your belly.

We got:
- Alps making-of
- Hockenheim making-of
- Halo Warthog Autovista
- Infineon reveal
- Loads of random car announcement with only a few new entries and without pictures on the day they were announced, had to google them

Like I said earlier, only the "under the hood" articles gave us solid informations.

LeBoef said:
yeah, they re making a plan how to do their marketing and someone leaks a video at the beginning with most of the important information.
do you expect them to throw everything away?

and marketing strategy has to hit everyone. standard gamers dont want to read information about games everyday (edit: about 1 game). they start the get sick of it.
and t10 cant use their team to feed you non stop with all kinds of infos. thats just non sense.

what do you want them to do? release a full car and tracklist on the first day of the announcement and a video of every track?
people are going to watch these over and over again, just to find MINOR unimportant flaws which they will complain about for months in forums.

just relax. the game is gold, release day will be kept and informations are coming in regularly.
and dont tell me: uh uh, its just a month pre release. they must start now.

i am sure they know more about their business than you do.
Do you work for turn 10?

No one is claiming they need all the info day 1, but If I were in charge:

1.Every car announcement gets a photo.
2.Every week release a track video with new to the series cars announced during said week driving on interesting parts of said track.
3.Have the community manager go to the forums and talk with the community.
4.If a feature is not in the game or is highly likely not to make it in, squash any rumor of said feature immediately.

None of these would cost any extra money like a CG trailer because they would all use assets that already exist, its just a matter of using the manpower effectively.

alright its been 72hrs I'm ready for the fail.

Somebody should really collate all the claims, hints, tips, rumours, nods, winks, no-comments, signatures, etc etc from the past six months and see which ones have actually ever borne fruit.

I bet the hit rate is quite low.

Believe.

72 hours from Tuesday puts the date at sometime tomorrow. Soundscream needs some sleep.

Sure they would. It's not like a light cloud cover gets rid of all light. The shadows would be more diffuse, though.

Yep, but the point is we're never seeing the track from those angles. Most of the time we'll only be seeing the trees on both sides of the road, so the discrepancy in lighting won't be a problem as you can see from the pics posted a few weeks ago

i thought 72 hours meant 'within' the next 72 hours, so maybe earlier than that.

so it's not a demo.

Oh, i know...both making of videos amount to 500mb in size combined.

They're releasing them on xboxlive, yeah ! :|

I do, but in my defense when I think 72hrs my head automatically converted it to 3 days, Thursday being the third day. But when I re-read it I realized I dun goofed and back tracked myself before the internet police came. Why release on a Friday?
I know what ill be doing Friday night.

Dan's showing off Forza 4 to press in Europe, so no 'Under the Hood' this week. Instead, check out these 3 new shots of the game straight from TGS!

Really.....

Have they used the Delorean and gone back in time before email and cell phones. And acting like the questions and answers are not pre planned and looked over with a fine tooth comb weeks before its release. I dont like to be told half truths, I'm sure there is a reason it was delayed but come the fuck on with that excuse.

Is that first image the official look of the new fuji?

holy shit get a new lighting director, turn 10

Terrible.

*edit* read what you lot said over the pages, I still think that fuji looks wrong being that dark especially with what background they are using.

If the sun was that low the tree shadows would not be blobs but stretching completely over along with shadow from the road itself, in those pictures they are not so the sun is still high up.

The sun isn't low here. It doesn't have to be. The ascension here is pretty steep so the trees and rocks from above would cast a diffuse shadow over the entire side of this mountain. That's why you would never plant vine or other stuff on the side of a mountain that has this kind of shadow during the day. At least not if you expect something worthwhile to grow. Sunside and Shadowside.
Further still, a mountain side is never flat, so it casts shadows onto itself as well.

It might look weird for people who never lived in the mountain, but growing up in the alps, well... it really looks perfectly fine to me.

Are the official forums down, or is it just me?

The history of the internet has taught us that forums always go down just before massive announcements of gargantuan significance are made, ergo: demo confirmed.

.

Now this looks like a badly taken digital photograph with the an iso of 400 or higher.

Oh and some of those blue filters they use to accentuate the sky in mountain photography and to compensate for the high light noise that ruins the colour otherwise.

Overwhelmed with what? ZOMG GUYS FUJIMI KAIDO IS IN!!!!!!

You guys are greedy. There has been tons of info, a steady stream in fact. And now you're so used to it that nothing below a megaton will impress you. Try some games where you must wait a month or several months to eventually get a tidbit of info about difficulty settings or some shit. In this case, the overwhelming amount of info already has only heightened expectations and spoiled y'all.

Which effectively makes a shitty, shitty marketing approach.

I was talking about the game itself when we get it, Jesus.

I don't really care about media, I know what I'm getting with the game and that was the point about that post I made.

I don't really consider tracks from the previous iterations to be OMG AMAZING new info.
The hardcore community wanted at least one of these.
  • Spa
  • Weather
  • Night Driving

Those would be interesting but I'm glad I'm not part of the "hardcore community". I don't really follow tracks. Weather has always been a detriment to my fun factor. Night driving would be cool though, I always liked the headlight effects with Night Driving.

For once T10 got the lighting right, this is not good man - sorry. Looks like blur or something EA would make.

This IBL thing: is it mainly about lighting objects in the environment, or does it light the actual environment as well?

The results on some tracks seems a lot more successful than others. Did different teams work on different environments, perhaps?

they specifically said the benefit is using the exact same lighting model for environments and cars.

Also, as you can see from the reflection on the 240, the sun IS behind a cloud :D

That's what I keep thinking about when taking pictures in GT5 and soon FM4: next-gen I want those same games, untouched, running in actual 1080p with a ton of antialiasing and AF added, so to make them look like photomode shots while in-game.

Hello people ,

Long time lurker here, but new on Neogaf.

I found this , dont know if its true !!!!!

It is in German, but it basically says that the rumour goes around that we should get a Demo today!!!

Forza Motorsport 4: Demo in Aussicht gestellt und Tsukuba Circuit bestätigt

14.09.2011 15:58 Uhr

You've never driven above a valley have you? That's probably the most realistic part of the lighting in that screen lmao.
I drive in the Rockies all of the time. Including mining roads and logging roads.

Maybe you and Boris are mixing up the time of day in that pic. You can always tell the time by looking at your shadow and the tree on the right tells is that it is around noon. The shadows of the trees in the distance confirms it.

So it should be bright and the road bathing in sunlight.

You two might think that the road is on the dark side of the hill but there's no dark side considering the time of day. The shadow of the tree is very clear.

Having shown the pic to my graphics guru friend he said that I just fixed the exposure of the road in relation to the skybox.

They (the german site) are just saying that they think the demo will be announced or come out at TGS because that's how it happened in 2009. Nothing has been confirmed.

I don't expect the demo. It's thursday in Japan already and the message has been posted yesterday. I don't know when XBL get's the update though. But hey, fingers crossed :D

what's stopping turn 10 from using the same euro company polyphony use for their environment lighting?
Xun said:
Oh? News to me.

Common misconception to be honest.

Polyphony is using (was using?) what was then one of the two The Illuminate Labs plug-in products - either Turtle or Beast or both, we don't know that - basically a middleware lightning plug-in for global illumination effects for PD's own proprietary lightning engine and help with some Maya rendering.

In the meantime (2010) The Illuminate Labs have been bought by Autodesk Company and now that particular solutions have been integrated into what is today an Autodesk Beast global illumination (GI) middleware.

Last time any mention of GT series using that solution was during Prologue development phase where Prologue screenshots were even used for print-advertising of The Illuminate Labs in specialized print.

However, since Autodesk bought The Illuminate Labs, Gran Turismo is nowhere to be seen on their official web nor it lists their solutions on the credits.

Worth noticing is how Polyphony did not "use" some european company for their environmental lightning but they've used their software in order to enhance their own engine. The Illuminate Labs solutions were backthen used also by EA, Blizzard, Epic, SQ and many more while today Autodesk Beast is one of the most common middleware solution in this gen.

Some examples from Autodesk's developer section using Autodesk solutions (size alert):

Guy named Luis Nieves did this beautiful video of GT40 using Autodesk Maya plugin:

Looks amazing.

Why can't we have a vid of this, would have been brilliant.

And that 7th shot, what is that? I'm being serious, an off screen shot of someone controlling via Kinect? Hard to tell if that is real or what.

I thought it was in the game too at first, but it's real, they're driving around the track.

He's pretending to strangle Dan going "WHERE'S THE DEMO DAN?!"

Yeah, after a second look, it is real. But I was convinced for a minute there it was in-game. Especially from the tree lines in the background and placement of the cones.

But, looking back at it again, it's only the rear view mirror that really gives it away. I'd probably still think it's an off-screen shot of someone controlling the game via Kinect, if someone told me so. Looks like this shot was taken intentionally to show the contrast between the colour pallets of both the game and real life, but obviously not.
