Pretty much. I think the only feature that was dropped from the series that people liked was the Drivatar (at least for me). Everything else gets improved with every iteration.
Absolutely, diehards will definitely argue FM2vFM3 driving differences and hell even FM 1 can arguably be said to be more realistic than both but all in all they improved the series every single version.
FM 4 is poised to take a massive dump on all versions of the series and that's saying a lot.

i mean if off the bat your response is "yeah its been improved every game" then thats probably the case, i think if we were to speak about the *ahem* other console ......racer....we'd default to...maybe not so much but I don't wanna start that here, because I really did enjoy my time with gt5 as much of a letdown as it was
This one was my favourite
I just love the presentation of the first few NFS games, though... I don't know whether they influenced anyone at Turn 10, but it does feel like it. Watch that video from the start to see what I mean.
Today it can be easy to justify not having any info about the cars because anyone can google it, but I like one reviewer's comment about how the career system in FM3 made him fall in love with a car he had no idea he liked. I watched the NSX video as well and because I'm a bit of a Honda fan I knew stuff about the VTEC and its purpose, but I had no idea how to spot a Diablo SV because I'm not a big Lambo fan.
Might sound a bit like Dan's "Turn gamers into car lovers", but I really like how early NFS, Forza 3 and now 4 broaden the love for cars. Who here would know about the GT90, Indigo, Nazca C2, that PGR4 car if they hadn't seen them in the game and even if you'd known about it would you know how kick ass it was on the track or had stuff like quad turbo?
Yes I know the only driving GT90 was ass on the track

Thing I'm worried about is that the visual fidelity is probably going to be under more scrutiny than any other game and will probably overshadow the rest of the features being implemented. When it comes down to it, even if it looks only marginally better in-game if they nail the rest of the advertised features, I'll be over the moon.
With any luck, they've found the magic formula for racing games so it rarely (if ever) feels like a grind. You can do it, Turn 10!

Exactly. Rather than just dropping a player into a game but wrapping it in an informative yet enthralling experience is what the games you mentioned did well and it's what I love about them. Not only am I playing a game but I'm learning at the same time (without it being boring). Not wanting to troll but T10 seem to get that... PD don't (thinking that it'll make the experience less "pure", I guess).

I'm worried that the single player is going to be very boring. I love painting though and will probably dump a ton of hours into that. I'm really hoping some of the stuff they're holding back includes livery stuff but I've never finished any Forza SP so any work they can do to make that more fun would be more appreciated than any visual stuff they do imo.
IMO i think the first forza was the best, at the time the physics were the best on console (some may argue enthusia was) the graphics and sounds were very good, it had night driving and of course drivatar, the point to point races which were amazing and imo the most fun single player of the lot. forza 2 was very good too but i felt a lot of stuff was left out..such as cockpits and overall the game was pretty damn ugly graphically. but it had better online, auction house and much better painting tools, tbh i loved forza 2. forza 3 was the most disappointing to me as i felt they spent too much time on community things such as storefront and the whole painting scene and not enough time on the actual racing and single player. forza 3s single player was the only one i never beat because it was agonisingly boring. they just had extremely long races for the hell of it and the drag races were the most pointless things ever. i didnt like how there was a permanent steering assist and how some RWD cars were very hard to oversteer in, such as the e36 M3, which i have driven in real life and nearly span out on my first corner..try and oversteer in it on forza 3 around a corner, almost impossible. if you havent already you really should play forza 1, it has a lot of features that are missing in even forza 3
that is awesome! loafers and all, i hope they model the NSX R better this time around, they modeled the newer NSX perfectly but the first gen ones rear end is very wrong sadly

I like the cut of your jib. I love FM1, and I'm still waiting on the tracks being put back in. Che promised multiple times after 2 and then 3 released.
I love to paint, and that kept me busy in 2 and 3, but I thought the SP of 3 was the definition of grind. It took me over a year to finish the 6 seasons.
I'd be so elated if some of the FM1 tracks found their way back in.

it was? i seriously cannot even remember it thats how forgettable the track is haha, i just know they forced you to play it on forza 2s career, bad bad memories

Yes, it was, they jazzed it up quite a bit in 2, scenery wise, and added a slew of small ribbons. I know a ton of people didn't care for Blue Mountains, but that and Alpine Ring were my favorites. Just loved the skybox on Blue Mtns.
They all were good though.
I was ticked when I got Forza 2 to see they cut NY Long.
Back after 2 came out, Badned showed us a wip pic of Blue Mtns in wirebox form, they started polishing it up for 2 but it never made the cut or the DLC.

So, in the 'man vs machine' lap, we see a lot of bouncing around, a lot of up and down in the camera view. God, I really, really hope that Turn 10 have recreated this sensation via track anomalies such as the changes in surfaces, dips and bumps..etc. I know it's been already confirmed (not by t 10) that this is actually the case, but still, it's something that has really bothered me now for quite some time.
Damn Turn 10, I'm really surprised by this one. A recreation of the legend, his NSX lap and shoes?
Who came up with that one?
Very unique and very impressive. I wonder what other stuff they intend on recreating..
I've got a suggestion..
If there was any hope in hell of it happening, I'd love to see a recreation of Rendez-vous, but that would be more suited to a game like PGR4, not Forza.

What the... Why were all these people just asking to be maimed and killed? Is it some sort of a tradition or something? A sign of trust? Just another day in rally sport?
And to drive so fast in such a twisty tunnel of people... Wow. Balls of true steel.
Wouldn't want to dilute Forza with some half-assed adition of rallying, though. There are other franchises specialised in that kind of motorsport. I'd take 3 more road tracks and overall improvements of features over inclusion of a rally stage or two any day of the week.
Btw, what happened to Forza World? It was rumored to be unveiled at E3, but that never happened and after that I don't think anyone mentioned it again.

Those were the good old crazy days. It was an awesome spectacle no matter which way you look at it.
I don't know, I wouldn't mind at least some type of off roading in FM4. It doesn't have to feature full blown rally stages, but perhaps a track for auotcross or something. Come to think of it, I would love to see Pikes Peak and the monsters that try to tame it.
I mean, we have drifting, circuit racing, drag racing, stunt driving...why not some off road racing as well..?
Do we already know how online racing is going to work? I hope it's not the dreadful hopper system again.
I'd rather see a mix of F2 and F3. A few main hoppers with the most popular restrictions and the ability to host a custom room that can be made public or private.

all the engine swaps are "possible" but they aren't realistic in the sense of physics/drivetrain modifications/body frame... Forza goes for a more fun approach vs simulation in some aspects, like widening Nurburgring so its more fun.
You know what would be better than replacing an aspirated engine with another NA motor? Converting the actual aspirated engine into NA instead. I mean we can convert NA to turbo or supercharged but why can't we do it the other way around?
Because of compression ratios? That could be easily fixed with some flat top slugs and some head work..

as a HUGE fan of rally i'd kill to see it in forza but i do see your point - its a tough thing to nail unless thats your focus (sorry GT fans, but the rally has always been pretty weak). however, i dont expect to see it in forza anytime soon.
what i am hoping for that will feed my need is more technical, tight and twisty, road courses ala positano. so god damned good, i really hope forza has at least a couple more similar style locations. glad to see the leon supercup return too, maybe i can set a few more top 100 times with a stock vehicle

GT5's rally showcased some neat graphical effects though... the smoke/dust effects with tree shadows casting on them and being lit by the rear lights at night was AWESOME.
Maybe it's because they're cranking this one out barely two years after the last game, tempered expectations and all that. But at this point, I gotta say... I'll be contented if Forza 4 turns out to be an very polished version of F3, with a decent chunk of extra tracks and cars. And it looks to be shaping up that way.
