More likely is the newer movie is probably even shittier than the previous ones and they don't want to have the Man of Steel effect, where it caused a lot of Superman fans to look at Superman Returns in a better light and say the newer movie sucked.

This honestly wouldn't surprise me. The new FF movie doesn't look good at all.

Same here, I was way too young think objectively about the film's quality, and I really liked both, specially the first one.

You never read the various forums? All of a sudden you had the people saying Returns was dogshit years ago saying you know, it's not so bad. I mean yeah the story could have been better but it had more emotion and heart and was more traditional etc. Even Brandon Routh commented like, it's interesting, after Man of Steel, now people are saying Returns was a good sequel, more traditional and more in line with classic Superman.

Can see a similar effect with Amazing Spiderman, whereby people who loathed Spiderman 3 and what it became started to say, you know what, Raimi and Tobey weren't so bad lol.

Just saying that could possibly be an issue. Stop any comparisons right away, force people to only remember or acknowledge the new ones, don't cause a blowback where fans who didn't like the new movies want to watch the old ones and then say wtf, Jessica Alba was better than Kate Mara.
