Game Informer March: Metal Gear Solid V (Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain)

By the end of Ground Zeroes, we'll learn that
Sutherland's voice being for Snake is a ruse. Hayter will be back as Snake in The Phantom Pain. In the initial Phantom Pain trailer, Sutherland's voice was not that of Snake, but the imaginary guy who was leading Snake through the hallway as Snake was crawling along the floor... Sutherland will be the voice of the main villain in Phantom Pain, while he was the "voice of Snake" in Ground Zeroes.

I'm calling it. There is going to be a major twist around all this.

Yeah, something like this will happen, i'm sure of it too. In the E3 trailer we never hear Sutherland talk and see Snake open his mouth at the same time. Its always Sutherland talking and Snake having his back turned like when he free's Kaz from Afghanistan.

Agreed. Although, I'm not sure anything all that significant will unfold in GZ that we aren't already aware of... Unless there's a post credits scene.

Oh my.

Its the same reason I beat GTA V - for the story not the online component.

Not really the same, online is different kind of experience. What you are saying is more you did none of the side quests and only did the story missions in GTA. That's what its like to do none of the extra missions in this game.

And this is like Peace Walker not Substance.

Nothing wrong with that at all, but some of the side stuff in games can be a ton of fun.

Resident Evil's mercenaries mode for example, completely not canon but hellishly enjoyable all the same.

So here's a quick theory on the cover:

I find it interesting that there's no text on the cover to indicate what game this is, especially given this is a magazine cover.

But we all recognize that character. "That's Snake. This is Metal Gear." And this is exactly what Kojima wants us to think.

I really think that, alongside race, MGSV will cover the theme of "Identity". Especially with the whole "Moby Dick Studios" and "Joakim Mogren" thing going on in the beginning.

Hopefully, Kojima will twist around our expectations again just as he did with MGS2.

Please make MGSV crazy, Kojima.

That crazy theory
about playing as I think Gray Fox with plastic surgery to look like "the Legend" Snake?
(tagged in the off chance it's true) would fit with this theme, that would be INSANE. I'd be down. We still don't know who the "What about him" person in the "Not Your Kind of People" trailer.

turns out its grey fox but its actually snake reliving the past via nanomachines to figure out what to do for mgs6 to discover the true origins of the partiorts also turns out ocelot was actually against him all this time and rose was a triple agent.

Man, MGS 1-3 are excellent games because of the story and design. The VR missions in Substance will legit make you better at the series if you challenge yourself.

Why play the side missions if I had MGS3 coming out in 3 years. I even had Twin Snakes to help pass the time. Even Kojima didn't want to do a Substance and a Subsistence but he had to do it because Konami wanted to make more money.

Right I did the main missions more than the sidequests. I tried online and it was crap... theres not even anything redeeming about GTA Online.

Enjoyable yes, but part of what the developer really wanted you to experience? No, not really.

maybe you should watch movies instead of playing video games

Why watch movies when you can immerse yourself and be that protagonist?

Don't you remember? they make video games the same way as movies. Even Kojima has claimed several times that he thinks he's a movie director and producer. Silly you.

Why would you assume that a developer wouldn't want you to experience these modes?

Because they aren't part of the story. Do you think a publisher would charge you $30-60 if they sold you a game that contained only the side missions and left out the story missions and told you, "sorry but if you want the main story, you have to buy it as a DLC or wait for the next game?" Because that's what GZ is - all filler and no story.

Did Shinji Mikami tell you that directly, or did you read it somewhere?

Or did you perhaps extract it from a part of your body...

stooping that low to insult me over an opinion? I guess you're just a teenager that won't get out of the house because you have a serious case of acne. :/

Because content like VR missions and Mercenaries mode allow you to hone your skills for each respective game, making higher difficulties seem more doable.

That's why I enjoy them so much, at least.

I never said Gameplay was that bad. I merely said I didnt give a shit about the side missions. Silly you.
GZ has extra missions for that very same reason. When MGSV comes out, you'll have played the extra ops or even the story missions so many times that you know the game very well. And I'm hoping with this tool at his disposal, Kojima will invert our expectations.

Let's ignore Ground Zeroes for a second here and concentrate on your point about the role of narrative in gaming. If story is important to you, then groovy. I'm not here to tell people what they should and shouldn't enjoy in regards to their favorite game franchises. But you do realize that your insistence on the importance of canon is absolutely bizarre to a great many people who play video games primarily for the gameplay, right?

Why bother when developers are nice enough to include tutorial for every game they make?

Even GTA V came with one!

You realize that the VR mission concept has been done in MGS1 Integral? and playing as Snake in these missions doesnt equal as a reason to play these missions considering Kojima basically took him out halfway through the game leaving us with a guy that grates on our senses?

...

What?

Your position on not playing something that isn't considered "canon" is baffling to me. In the biggest picture, why would it matter if what you play is canon or not? It's all about playing what you enjoy the most... Or at least, I would hope. You think that when someone writes your life story, "DeafSnake13 played non-canon missions" will be viewed as a mark of shame or something? Why would it matter if something is canon or not? (I'm sincerely not trying to be offensive; we all see things differently, but you really will miss out with that kind of viewpoint.)

The page says Digital version will show up later today. Print subscribers I think should expect it in the coming days.

Thanks, i wish i could buy just this one single issue digital here in europe.

That cover looks mighty fine.

I'm calling it differently.

Both Big Boss and Ishmael are voiced by Kiefer because Ishmael is Solidus. The only 1:1 perfect clone of Big Boss. They grew him quickly into an adult, and from TPP and beyond he is aging with a normal speed. Having Solidus there is also important because of Africa and child soldiers.

To be honest, I was only expecting around 5-6 hours. Hell, Tomb Raider clocks in at about 10 with a horribly tacked on multiplayer on top. Half the length for half the price?
