Sucker Punch pissed me off the way they communicated their response to the controversy and let it set for a week until the interview was done, but ultimately they did what they needed to do. I'll leave it at that.

I'm still not buying the game. Maybe a rental at some point.

So much praise for the protagonist and story yet the marketing team completely avoided showing anything about it. Crazy.

Their review of Tushima (by the same guy) was the one that most aligned with my opinion of the game.
And it sounds like basically everything I disliked about Tushima (like boring repetitive side activities, too much hand holding, boring sidequests, etc) make a return here.

Why does that matter so long as it does as well as Sony/Sucker Punch's estimates? (which we wont know publicly most likely)

It's scoring well, that's not a shock, it'll sell well and that won't be a shock either.

Sales trends typically give us a vague direction of the studio. If Yotei flounders, we're probably going to see the studio try and course correct. If it doesn't, we're probably going to get a Ghost of Himeji in 6 years.

The overall negative climate from the moment the game was announced never made any sense to me. I have no idea why Sucker Punch never got the benefit of the doubt, it's not like they have a bad history or something. Seems like they delivered both on gameplay and the technical side despite all the fuss here. Another victim of the culture wars on GAF, even though I'm not sure it was ever really part of them. The best recommendation for me was John from DF that generally dislikes open world games saying he couldn't put it down.

However, even with that, it's very possible the casting manager is woke captured but the majority of the devs aren't, or even that the casting was handled by the publisher Sony (it's often a job that falls to the producers who sit on the publishing side---that's how games access Hollywood voice talent, for example).

So it's still a pretty baseless argument.

Digital foundry video literally said there is much less repotition of activities per each of area of the yotei 6 and he also said he didnt like tsushima bc of that but yotei has more variety. Look it up its at the very end of the Video after the audio part

Yaoi/yuri stuff is trailblazed by Japan for a reason, and a lot of themes that many consider 'woke' (like cross-dressing or homosexuality) are deeply rooted in actual history of the land or even art, like Kabuki.

Not everything outside of US is a fuel for your domestic culture war, guys.

An actress being some antifa person, some evil dev, and some people that liked it doesn't mean the game has anything in it. I originally cancelled my pre-order out of protest for the devs comments, and planned on rebuying it after but then I remembered Silent Hill f came out and I'd rather play that. I'm also simply not buying it because outside of the romanticized way DF explains graphics, I thought it looked pretty much the same and the gameplay looked the same. It's a wait for a sale game for me.
