Ghost of Yotei | Review Thread

1080p60 with that visual? Nah.
I'll not defend UE5 abysmal perfornance this gen, but running a game at 1920x1080 so late this gen with this art style is not something to be praise imo.
Just a little reminder that this game took 5 years.

I mean, 1080p is not amazing but given how many AAA games these days can't even get to that full HD baseline I still think it's a win.
Specially with DF mentioning it's almost locked 60fps with only rare drops.

People are surprised this is reviewing good?

Yeah I don't get it.
It's a "more of the same" Sony sequel which we already know review well (Forbidden West 88 Meta, Ragnarok 94 meta, Spiderman 2 90 meta).
The first game didn't review amazingly well (83) but it went up to a 87 with the directors cut.

Why anyone was expecting this to get a bunch of 6-7/10 reviews is beyond me.

I personally dont care to play with a man or a woman protagonist. I dont care if she is gay or bisexual or whatever. Black or white, if the game is well written I am in. What I dont like is being preached on, like for example Veilguard did with those infamous non binary cutscenes. That was pathetic and unacceptable in a videogame.

That being said, with Sucker Punch I never had any issue, seriously. I always loved their games, the infamous franchise is so good but their behavior with the developer that they supposedly fired along with not making any statements condoning that awful tweet, really ruined for me the way I feel about this developer.

Its a real shame because all they had to do was to make a simple statement apologizing for this and I would be on board

I'm a 6'2" black British dude who hates woke propaganda and has bullishly argued against it in all forms on this very forum. I love female objectification in games, fan-service in anime and the odd hentai as much as every other Gaffer on here.
I think recognizing the casting choices of purple haired studios is valid. I wouldn't want to watch Braveheart with Helen Mirren as Williamina Wallace. I don't think that makes me a bad person.

Folks like you are just here to fuck up the signal to noise ratio
This is bizarre phrasing. I'm here to express my viewpoint, just as you are.

Sony fanboys can be as annoying as Xbox fanboys sometimes.

I not into score either, but as I said before, clap for a 87 game when we got a plenty of 90+ games this year. Will sure be a surprise when the user score get open.

Not to mention 1080p on base PS5 is not something to get proud.

With a bit o luck this game get a nomine, but the list is already full, idk if is possible.

Not getting nominated for an award is not the end all be all.

You seem to be struggling to follow your own discussion thread, as if you don't even know what you posted moments before.

Are you schizophrenic? You should get that checked out..... pretty much explains your tag too.

There's a world of difference between Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon Age: The Failguard. Developers should look into old BioWare games and Baldurs's Gate to see how you make a game that include LGBTQ the right way

It's not remotely my cup of tea but this looks like a beautiful game. The animations, graphics and art style are simply gorgeous.

I disagree with you, I don't think 1920x1080p on base PS5 with that visual in mind is something good. Either DRS or 1440p with some sort of reconstruction would be much better, unless of course they target 1080p on purpose to make the PS5pro more appealing.

Just imagine if there was not a PS5pro. And the base PS5 would be simply called PS5. I sure they would use 100% of PS5 capabilites, just like many PS5 games on launch. PS5 can do much more than that.

In my bias opinion they could make better use of base PS5, but end up looking foward to make PS5pro looks more better in comparison with base PS5.

I think it might be a good time for Sony to seriously reconsider the whole tying bonusses to metacritic score the industry loves to do. This arrangement sounds like it could be very prone to corruption.

So apparently the game has 0 pronouns, no relationships and no political messages... It's hard to believe honestly
So excellent performance, great reviews, better scores than the original release of the first game, no complains from the "woke" audience to have...

Not the best day for GAF. They may actually have to...consider one game may not be terrible.

Absolutely. When Playing Baldurs Gate 3 I noticed some LGBTQ elements but none of the bothered me, I honestly didn't even think of it because there was no preaching, just characters showing who they are plain and simple without judgment. That's how I think we should represent characters in videogames, they should be judged by their writing and personality and not by their sexuality or gender.

I know why they are doing it, so they can chant the eat the crow song, too bad many of us really don't give a fuck about reviews scores so it doesn't always work, anyone with half a brain saw the 80+ scores coming, last sony game that scored low was day gone be ause it had a problematic white protagonist with a libido :lollipop_squinting:

But the xboys that win their battles by listing mc scores are royally fucked this time :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Never played Veinguard but I still had issues with BG3. I guess though it was less about the LGBTQ stuff and more about just how everyone in general wanted to fuck you.

I personally never said the game would be terrible, in fact I was expecting it to be excellent like the previous one which I loved. I was just angry with the Charlie Kirk situation and the fact that they didn't bother to condone their employee behavior and I think many people here will agree with me

I think there has been corruption for some time. Even in the 90s with magazines and gaming focused television shows.

They fired her on the spot, they handled it perfectly, you're just being stubborn for the sake of it, or as they call it, virtue signaling.

And because of your extreme reaction, you'll miss out on a perfectly good game.

I think it's more down to the fact that all those games you listed are overrated and are not what the actual games should be rated. I don't think anybody here with a straight face could rate Ragnarok a 94, same with SM2. Maybe the case could be made for FW but certainly not in my case.

This game from what's been shown has been underwhelming but I won't say it's not worth the scores it's getting as I haven't played it.

Same here. Don't give a shit about identity politics as long as I'm not being preached to. Veilguard was probably the worst I've seen and that was more to do with incompetence in writing than anything else. I don't have a problem when a dev wants to include a message in their story, but being able to do that without preaching is a skill I think most game devs don't have and so they should just leave it alone.

Glad that Yotei seems to have done just that

They fired that person on that same day.

If recognizing casting choices means being unable to separate the art from the artist, yeah I think it does.... or at the very least makes you myopic.

Nobody has criticized the voice acting talent of the main voice actress. All the admittedly valid complaints have been about her politics, which are entirely orthogonal to the game and its creation.

She's literally a robot hired to read lines off a script. Claiming that somehow is going to ruin the game's story is catastrophizing irrationally without any meaningful basis. And these review scores prove how much all the controversy around the voice actress has amounted to nothing more than empty hysteria.

What political inclinations have you even seen in the actual game thus far??

The only issues that have overwhelmed the discourse around this game and its developer have been exclusively about the voice actor and some shitty tweets by one of the devs who ended up getting disciplined for it anyway.

Unless you think merely having a female protagonist amounts to "political inclinations" then I have no idea what people have seen of the actual game footage that indicates anything objectionable about this game.

The VA Artist for the main Character in Ghost of Yotei is a Member of Antifa who is a known Terrorist Organisation.

The Voice is still in the Game and supported by Sucker Punch.

What excuse do you have for this?

The individual was fired mate. It will be interesting to see if anyone else in the industry hires them for their studio.

I bought the game but people were expecting something close to what they did for floyd, they probably expect a maga armour in yotei and a maga murales in the next spidey game :lollipop_squinting:

The difference in reaction is enough for many to still be mad at sony.

I don't have a horse in this race, just explaining why people are still mad.

So where are you on this game at the moment? The last I recall, you were going to boycott it. Still the case? No judgment. Just curious.

She's literally only hired to read lines off a script.... Should she be blacklisted from working on future games? Hell fucking yes. But that's got nothing to do with the quality of GoY.

Can a shitty person still be talented at voice acting? Absolutely.

Separate the art from the artist (and she's not even qualified as an artist, since she only reads lines. She has virtually no creative input to the game beyond the voice performance which has been praised).

Chances are if you liked GoT you will like this one as well but I didn't liked GoT.

This game is just not just for me…..game like Sekiro and Onimusha is much more my type of samurai game.

The user review war on this game might be Epic probably sits between a 6-7.

My guess the game sits somewhere 85-95 depending on personal tastes but for SP handling of the murder

So now we trust game reviewers and journalists? Ha. ok. I expected nothing less from them. Gamer scores are what matters.
Exactly. Since when do we trust game "journalists"? Besides being largely unprofessional, they have shown to be predominately left leaning/woke.

Wait until people get their hands on the game en masse, then make your decision on how woke (or not) the game is and if it's worth buying.
