Jeff still engineered it to put Mario Maker ahead even after the majority of the room said Rocket League should be above it.[/SPOILER]
That was a great moment. They were all in favor of Rocket League being above Mario Maker and then they just kind of forgot about it.

Anyway, those top 2 spots are already occupied by lame games, the true fight will be for number 3 which might as well be the true Game of the Year discussion.

Will it be Hitman? Will it be Picross? Will it be Pro Evolution Soccer 2017?
lol it is pretty good though

If Jeff doesn't get too involved in downing it, Inside will be up there. It's pretty much guaranteed to get in the top 10 at least.

And deservedly so, IMO.

I decided to bite the bullet and read through the Shenmue thread in Gaming..

I just want to say that having Henry Hatsworth being one of the only you have ever imported is rad.

Yo! Still remember the 1UP Show segment with Patrick and John D. being bewildered that Patrick managed to finish the game.

It's super weird that the game never came out in Germany. The USK did rate it but EA (was it EA?) never released it over here.

I called the game dumb in there and someone got angry.

As someone who has never played a Dead Rising game all that much which one of the HD remasters should I buy?

As far as I can tell.

Dead Rising 1 for the original, kind of crazy raw experiance
Dead Rising 2 for a slightly more refined experience that maybe loses some of the magic
Dead Rising 2 OTR which I guessseems to be 2 but trying to add some stuff from 1 back in

Henry Hatsworth was one of the handful of DS games that made the two screens seem alright. By and by, when NX is a single screen device, I won't miss them.

If you can tolerate jank, DR1 is a good time. I think most people would tell you to not even consider DR2 since OTR introduces a new area and a lot of small improvements like checkpoints.

Definitely start with 1. If you end up having a great experience (and like Frank West), buy OTR.

2 is skippable unless you really hate Frank for some reason. Probably someone that also hates puppies.

So I never looked into it, but how different is the story? Do they change all the cutscenes to insert Frank? Is Chuck totally nonexistent in the game? How does it really differ from vanilla DR2?

They do change the cutscenes, it's basically a "what-if Frank was the hero" alternate universe. So if you play Dead Rising 3, the story might not make much sense when they do callbacks to 2, but caring about the DR story is like caring about a Porno's.

Chuck
is a psychopath in OTR
.

They add:

Frank needing the Zombrex instead.
Brings back the camera
More combo cards
Frank has more of a wrestling fighting style
Sandbox mode
A new zone
A hands-free phone (FINALLY)
And a few other things

Predicting this will be yet another year where their top three games are games I haven't played or didn't care about one way or the other...and yet I'll still get irrationally angry about the arguments all the same.

Alex: "There's nothing special about DOOM."
Brad: "But it's DOOM!"
Alex: "You've convinced me. DOOM is number one. Now, could we go back to the game I liked it was qui-"
Brad: "No."
Alex: "I guess I won't win this. Ok. My favourite game is trash."

Real talk, I really think Pokémon GO could be my favourite game of the year. It's a bad game and app but seeing how even my mother loves it, how I met new people, how we played it together and the fact that I've walked 200km with it makes it clear that it had by far the biggest impact for me this year. And I'm still having fun playing it.

Play DOOM, play The Witness, play Picross 3D 2
Didn't set my world on fire, didn't set my world on fire, maybe I'll check it out.

Though for real, it's gotta be Overwatch in the 2 or 3 slot over Picross, which adds yet another "didn't set my world on fire" to the pile.

In related news, I hate fun.

Alex' favorite games never stand a chance. Splatoon last year and Jazzpunk the year before. Poor guy.

If we all just accept that DOOM will win GotY we will all be much happier during the deliberations.
Knowing your favorite game will not win anyway makes you less invested!

Its Wii Party of the year.

It's a good year for Pokémon. GO got me way back in. It actually got me interested in returning to the main handheld games and create a living pokedex. I also found the inspiration to play through another game despite feeling a little burnt out after that.

Finally watching Friday's Shenmue episode. Maybe I'm speaking from a place of privilege as a man who can sing, but it's crazy how Dan has absolutely no ability to find a pitch. Like, astonishing in a way.

I remember the Splatoon GOTY talk and it made me angry. Alex threw Splatoon in there for GOTY which, as a game, perfectly represents a true GOTY. A fresh new IP which redesigns a whole shooter into something completely new. But NOPE! It was preposterous to even bring that up as a possible GOTY contender! I mean come on. And of course DOOM will win this year because it's DOOM.

Jazz Punk is way too short and forgettable to be a serious GOTY contender. It was fun for a bit, but WOW is it short. Also, I finally played the Doom demo. It was decent and really pretty, but I would have to assume the game picks up a ton after that because it feels like something I wouldn't pay more than $5 for.

Assuming he picks Overwatch this year, at least he'll be able to put it on the top 3.

One of the best FPS in years? Yep, it is.

A similar thing happened with my brother. He hasn't played a Pokemon game since the Gold/Silver era and now he's seriously considering getting a 3DS to play Pokemon Moon come November.

People too invested in the game VS people too defensive of the Giant Bomb guys, same thing every ER.

The final fight will be East's Overwatch vs West's Doom

sadly, West has the two people most likely to stamp their feet

It should be Hitman over both of those though.

Heh, probably pretty accurate.

The GB GOTY arguments are generally just about who's willing to be the most stubborn and give the least ground, and much less about actually extolling the virtues of games, at least when it comes to the eventual top 10 stuff.

My favorite game isn't even going to be mentioned :( (Rimworld)

I think the only actual dog I have in their potential fights is Hitman. I'd like to see it hit the top five, but I'm guessing it'll be around 9 or 10 if it gets on the list.

What's going on there? Don't know anything about the differences between the two.

Moon's clock is set 12 hours ahead of real time. So when you're playing at night it'll be daytime in the game and vice versa. YMMV but I find that really unappealing. Sun meanwhile is just a realtime clock.

So what you're saying is basically that you know Pokemon GO is a bad game, but the walking feels SO GOOD?

That's definitely pretty weird. I might still get Moon and just set my system clock 12 hours behind

Maybe it's a nostalgia thing, but the crew's gushing over Doom still surprises me.

Don't get me wrong, it's certainly a fun time, but I've already forgotten everything about it. I can't think of a single memorable moment, just a bunch that were kinda neat.
