Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball (Japanese: デッドオアアライブエクストリームビーチバレーボール, Hepburn: Deddo Oa Araibu Ekusutorīmu Bīchi Barēbōru, abbreviated as DOAX) is a beach volleyball game by Tecmo released in 2003 exclusively for the Xbox. The game was a departure from the rest of the Dead or Alive series which otherwise consisted of fighting games. It also marked the first game in the series to have a Mature rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

The game is set immediately after the tournament in Dead or Alive 3 ended. Gameplay revolves around the women of the DOA series playing various mini-games in the many locations of Zack Island, a reclusive private resort on an island owned by Zack, the only male character from the series to appear anywhere in the game. This installment features no fighting engine, instead being much like a simulation game that encourages the player to establish relationships with the AI of characters, and eventually make a two-person team to compete in volleyball competitions. Currency earned from completing mini-games and gambling in the island's casino allows the player to purchase hundreds of different swimsuits to wear in the game.

Its sequel, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, was released on November 13, 2006, exclusively for the Xbox 360. The next sequel, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, was released on March 24, 2016 in Asian countries.

I love the games personally. Plenty of fond memories. Great fantasy escapes. I get why people don't like the simplistic volleyball mechanics, but for me they are ok. Definitely fit in with the rock paper scissors mechanics of the main fighter series. Plus the other minigames are fun, and its part dating sim too. I recall my sister's biggest complaint and now nearly two decades later(also in 3)my girlfriend's is that they want the male cast playable and in the partner/dating sim elements. I get it, and they should be there too, in fact I think it would have helped the series survive longer in the west. Haters gonna hate, but I love the franchise.

Imagining I'm somebody else in some richbiotch fantasy vacation going shopping, getting a tan(dear god the tanlines!), having fun in minigames and duking it out with rival babes with my bestie at beautiful locations... one could do a lot worse.

It was the second best Volleyball game of the Original Xbox/PS2/GC generation, and we didn't have many options.

The #1 funnest Volleyball game was Outlaw Volleyball in my opinion.

The Outlaw series was giving us over the top fast and fun versions of Volleyball, Tennis, and Golf. This series felt like the SSX of those sports. I'll always hold the series in high regard when everyone else was mainly focused on making American Football, European Futbol, Hockey, and Basketball arcadey and fun. Also regarding tennis, yes, Virtua Tennis came out on Dreamcast, but then it mysteriously disappeared for years until it came back on the PSP.

2nd Place was DOAXBV.

Responsive, fun, not super competitive but a great time.

3rd place was Beach Spikers on Gamecube

Quirky with that fun Sega feel, yet slower than the top two games and for some reason didn't hit that same excitement level. It was still a fun game to rent or borrow from a friend.

Last place is Summer Heat Beach Volleyball

It is just an average game. Acclaim's quality and track record was always inconsistent, and you didn't know if this would end up great or terrible. This was middle of the road.

I miss the days when sports games (and by extension, racing games) were arcady and lite and anyone could get into them and have a great time, even if you were not into the sport.
Of course, ogling the ladies were a big draw for DOAX, but the first two were actually fun games (the later ones got too diluted with relationships, less stellar mini games, gambling, and outfits), and I wish someone would make a current gen game like them.

All we gotta do is get over that mount of soy...
