Ewww...Assassin's Creed-style world progression? Or maybe certain buildings will not be accessible because you won't have the notoriety/respect or even the keys to the building.... (probably the former)

I don't know how much experience you have with the franchise but every game since GTA3 has had this 'feature'.

am I the only one who prefers the various areas of the city to be unlocked? One thing I love about GTA is that because of this, I am able to pace myself, learn the areas to a tee, before I move on to the next area and repeat. In games like Crackdown and Saints Row, where the entire game is open up at the beginning, I just don't have the urge to explore since I'm so overwhelmed. I don't know where to start.

I like the pacing of GTA's a lot and I'm glad they're keeping it this way. I know it's a minority opinion on the issue, it's just how I feel.

Well, I hate doing that now because I'm spoiled from Left Trigger and Right Trigger being used for racing games these days. Thank God for triggers.

Holy crap. I wonder how this could be implemented to the game? :D

The NYPD has cab fleets driven by undercover officers who make busts; our Rockstar rep mentioned seeing one in action once. It's in the game, as Console Editor-in-Chief Will Tuttle discovered after taking out a cabbie from a block away. His partner jumped out of the passenger's seat and immediately began opening fire, plus the line-of-sight police meter suddenly showed up on the mini-map. That dynamic, "anything can happen" nature of this new Liberty City popped up quite a few times during our demo

:D

Nope, i prefer it, too. I love to explore an area, do the missions there and then get a new area as a reward. I think, Sandbox games are much more motivating if you have to do missions to get access to all areas.

You stole my post. Completely agree with you and Himuro.

I've played them all, although I can't remember parts of the map being locked out at the start of the game.

Although, its been a long time since I played any of them though, perhaps my memory is just shot! :lol

I still to this day haven't unlocked the other two principalities in San Andreas.

:(

WTF? Las Venturas and everything associated with it made the game for me.

YEAH. I KNOW.

I'm not happy about it. I got caught up in protecting my turf and never progressed the storyline far enough that I could make it.

:(

Hopefully the city will look so great that it will be pleasant enough to just pick a car and drive around while listening to the radio.

I loved to do that in San Andreas, and if Liberty City looks as awesome and busy as it sounds man....i will waste hours just driving around.

You missed out. Gambling at the casinos was the best way to make money in a GTA. Firetruck missions from 3 were nothing in comparison. The harrier, the mining truck, the 747, the hovercraft, the mountain, I could go on and on with what made the second and third island so great.

This isn't helping, is it? :lol

Same here man. I'll be running people over too :p Maybe while listening to the classical music station heh

I agree with you that it ruined the pacing of Saints Row but I thought Crackdown handled it brilliantly. Crackdown allowed you access to the whole city but navigating and doing missions in the Volk and especially Shai-gen without first leveling up in los muertos would be very hard and sometimes impossible. They created a direction for players to go in (los muertos - volk- shaigen) but also allowed them to break free from it if they were skilled enough to do so.

All that work will go down the drain :(

Those complaining about using triggers for driving never owned a dreamcast. I blame Sega GT for my first taste of the awesome that is true analog driving. That paved the way for Forza 1 and 2. Analog driving with trigger > all.

I played SA for like 100 hours and ended up with only 80 or so %

btw when do you guys wanna start the GTAIV avatar group? April?

I would love to do one now but I'm not sure there are enough screens for the amount of people on this train.

You missed the point.

Can we just move on and not mention platforms anymore or DLC :\

PS3 vs 360 vs Specifics of one or the other = GAF

This is not gaf.

This is GTA IV :D

I dun even know what the common theme in all the GTAIV avatars should be. It's not like MGS4 where you just have to put Snake's eye thing on there, or how all the Mario avatars had Mario's hat.

Luckily we still have two months to think about it...

... damn it, still far away =(

I'm not a huge fan of the relationship system as described, seeing as I hated the girlfriends from San Andreas, but I'll give it a go.

I do like how the driving is now a little more realistic, with more inertia to the cars - it will make driving and chases more believable, whilst still retaining the fun factor.

It will take 100 hours to get everything in the game?! o__o; Will anyone even want the DLC once it comes out?

It will probably take me 200 hours to get everything, since I like to tool around, but I'll definitely get the DLC day one.

Hi. A lot of people seem to be thinking that the GTA series has met it's demise and is on it's downfall. They think the series has been played out and is nothing new..

But the basic concept of GTA will never get old for me sort of how I will never get bored of gangster films. There will always be newer gangster films with newer stories but people always come back to watch them. They don't think, "Oh I have seen gangster film already I am bored with the genre." They come back to watch again anyways. I think GTA is like that. James Bond is like that too it has a cult following and there is always a new movie released for the new generation. Also many gaming franchises keep coming back -- Final Fantasy is a good example -- and there are sports games that are released every single year which still have large followings

What I really want to see a is a this gen GTA4 engine based game of london in the 60's. Just like the original series was like that they had a london in the 60's game..

We should all break our current avatar into blocks and place them aka the GTA boxarts.

Post the original image and I'll see what I can do. It may take a while though - I've got relatives coming this weekend.

EDIT: I guess I you should state what panel you want it in (even old GTA games would be ok I guess)

You don't want Boeings, Spitfires and Harrier jets ?
Aera 51 missions ?
Crazy hippie dude weed farm missions ?
Toy store guy - voiced by David Cross - impossible plane missions ?!
Blind Asian casino owner stuff ?
Hoover dam ?
Vegas ?
The quarry ?
The HUGE Mt. Chiliad ?
The cave, the geiser, the snake farm, the golf courses, kart races, tuning garages, army bases, two new stadiums, new cars, new radio, etc. etc.

Also, you mention you're protecting your turf ? You lose all of your turf when two bad ass cops - one of them voiced by Samuel L. Jackson !!! throw you out of the city....
So don't bother protecting your turf...there are missions for that near the end of the storyline.
