Do you lot like ANYTHING that isn't a pretentious slog that only stuffy old academy heads like?
I know you aren't directing this at me, since I was talking about Transformer's live-action films, but yes. Or do I mean no? whatever should mean i do like things that aren't pretentious, but i still want them to be good.

Indeed!

Just saying because some people think their opinion on something is objective and not subjective... Even if some share the same opinion
My opinions aren't objective, but they are objectively the best opinions.

And that's subjective...

I guess I shouldn't be bothered because all film is subjective but it always seems the same people in these movie threads just don't like ANYTHING that's also popular in the box office.

I'm the same dude who liked The Joy Luck Club, Contact, The Martian and most Marvel/DC movies... I can't wait to FINALLY watch Dungeons and Dragons!

As long as I can smile or feel something with a movie (as long as it's not revulsion), I'll most likely like the movie or show.
You just have low standards, it's ok.

I don't blame folks for not liking the weird artificial look a lot of CGI heavy films have these days, regardless of script issues, they just LOOK offputting in lots of ways, especially compared to practical effects shot on film of the 70s & 80's. Or the over saturated look of lots of technicolor 50s and 60s film. So you can not be a stuffy artsy fartsy type but still not care for the popcorn flicks of today, ESPECIALLY when you stack them up against schlocky campy shit from the 70s and 80s that, even with a TINY FRACTION of the budget, somehow have more emotional resonance and engagement because of how they were shot.

The worst Peter and Spider Man?

Nah.
As someone who largely disliked Tom's Peter from Homecoming through Far From Home (including Infinity War and Endgame), I think No Way Home course-corrected him into actually being a decent Spider-Man now, I would be genuinely excited if it wasn't for the fact that now Miles is 100% going to be shoe-horned into that shit. I don't even really hate Miles, I just hate how Spider-Man spent 40+ years as him being a solo figure, just Peter Parker on his own with little help, but now they always need to find a way to sneak Miles in. I only like him in the Insomniac universe.

Box office for this will be interesting to watch... you have to think if it performs below expectations it will definitely start to raise some alarm bells at Disney. Nobody is lining up to see The Marvels, or Anthony Mackie as Captain America, or the Avengers from Wish either.

Liked the two Captain America movies but that was about it. Wasn’t a Marvel guy and thought this super hero thing wouldn’t drag on this long in place of new films/genres getting their shot. GotG 3 might only make $500-$600 million this time. I get the impression the final Avengers movie was their closer and they are content with it. Kind of like the OG 6 Star Wars films.

This elitist mentality you have is cringe as fuck.

“you just have low standards, it’s ok”

Like for real? You have low standards from someone else’s point of view. You spend more time shitting on films than discussing actual films you like

Saw it earlier today, and imo its the best Marvel movie - a great romp of fun, sadness and crazyness that never stops.
Most Marvel movies are the equivalent to UbiSoft games. Safe and boring.
Gunn on the other hand doesnt care about conventions and thats why his stuff is superior!
So for me it was a 9.5, but your milage may vary!

This was the best Marvel movie in a long time, up there with Guardians 1 - not sure what the reviewers were smoking saying it's middling. They fucked up big time letting DC get James Gunn. I loved the darker tone of the film and heavy relationship undertones, great way to end the trilogy.

Just home from watching it. The Rocket back story is the best thing in this film. It does more character development and emotional lifting than of the previous Guardian films ever did.

The rest of the film is your standard MCU flash bang wallop with extra needle drops and poorly shot/edited action set pieces. That lack heft and feel like a fever dream mixed with a bad headache.

The MCU will continue to limp forward to a destination that I think very few actually care about getting to.

Just back from it and to be honest I loved it. Really felt like a marvel back on form and pushing boundaries, with an actual story to tell

Some of the subject matter and how dark it is, might not be for everyone though.

So many little bits that brought a smile, or laugh (or made me want to look away) Want to say more, but will leave spoilers till it’s been out a while

I will say that the path from the first till the last movie for most of the characters. was very satisfying, in a way few movie journeys are

It amazes me how sharp of a drop in quality these movies took immediately after the conclusion of the infinity saga, with only the Spider-Man movies still remaining as the only glimmer of hope for a decent superhero flick. Like, seriously, what the fuck happened with this franchise? Did they have some kind of an internal boycott at Disney where any competent and talented person got replaced with a bunch of talentless hacks and political activists who couldn't tell decent filmmaking from their own assholes?

Eh the reception for this seems more like Dr Strange 2. Some people love it some people hate it. And at any rate this is all one big filler arc until X-Men.

Is it still gonna be called X-Men tho?

Dr Strange 2 was awful, I have no idea how it has a 74 RT. It's really really bad. So doesn't give me much confidence for this, but I am going to watch it.

I loved Dr Strange 2. It was a 100% bona fide Sam Raimi flick. I think actual audience reaction is more like 50% not 74% lol very divisive film.

And yes it will be called the X-Men. Disney likes woke but they also like the dollar which is why Deadpool 3 is featuring Hugh Jackman one last time. Easiest billion dollars for an R film since Joker.

Sam Raimi is still a great director and he did the best he could with the material but this was clearly a "I did it for the money" kind of gig. The story is what drags this one down because it's just nonsensical and the villain's motivation is all over the place, plus you won't know what the fuck is going on unless you watched the stupid TV show. Which I didn't because I don't care, I'm only here for the movies, thank you very much.

It's the best one out of the three, although for someone as hard to please as yourself, I'm not sure if it's gonna change your mind. Not sure what made you hate those movies but I thought they were pretty fun too.

Hard to please because i don't like most of marvel trash, lmao.

The only good spidey movies are the first 2 from raimi (and the third for giving us the bully mcguire memes) , the other are all shades of brown.

But more power to you if you enjoy them.

I hated the first 2 movies (well first most strongly) and think the 3rd was decent. It relies a lot on cameos, and goodwill from the Raimi movies, but at least gives Peter more of a character arc.
Yeah, seeing molina as doc ock again was one of the reason why i could probably stomach this one.

Nah, it is just hilarious that you think that not liking marvel stuff means that i'm "hard to please" like these are masterpieces or something.

Old spidey movies are still made with marvel characters, they were just light years better.

I never said they're masterpieces, lol. I said they're fun because they are. Marvel used to put up fun movies pretty consistently, with films like Winter Soldier or the first Guardians actually being quite excellent. Considering that these aren't movies that are meant to challenge your intellect and simply aim to provide you with a couple of hours of good cathartic fun, actively hating on them just sounds like you're extremely hard to please.

Those recent Spider-Man movies are good because they're just well made and have engaging plots and good characters. So far you haven't said anything about what makes those films so grating to you and you just keep repeating that the old ones were better.

I hated almost everything about the new spidey.

The fat friend, the shitty annoyed maryjane character, the school location\school traveling with funny looking looser flash thompson, the villains (great actors, meh villains), him being a complete inept that cause a lot of damage in the first movie even if it comes after his fight against the fucking avengers, the robo-suit etc.

You talk like me not liking these movies is strange when millions of people didn't liked them either...i can assure that it is not strange at all nor it means that someone is hard to please if they didn't liked the first 2 spidey movies.

I know that some marvel movies are pretty good, the second capt america or infinity war comes to mind.

Are you hard to please because you didn't liked gow or horizon that are brands beloved by millions of people? I don't think so.

Who said I didn't like these games? That's just your assumption based on a couple of threads I've made where I wanted to discuss some of the legitimate problems that they had but that doesn't mean I've hated them, lol.

Nuance, my friend.

I can understand if you didn't connect with these characters, but as far as the villains and plot goes, I think you're kinda missing the point. Him being a bit of a bumbling teenager is kinda the point because he's a teenager who doesn't know shit about dick, and it's part of his character arc to grow into a more competent hero by failing and learning from those failures. As for the villains, Vulture actually ranks among the top villains in all of Marvel movies, and that's because he's not just another angry dude in make up who wants to destroy the heroes because he's evil. There's some actual nuance to his character because he's just a blue collar everyman who wants to provide for his family and turns to crime because the big man upstairs fucked him over. And it's done in a believable, relatable way unlike most other superhero movies where bad guy motivations just feel contrived and generic, if we're lucky enough to even get any. Him turning out to be the dad of Peter's love interest was a great twist.

Vulture ranks high because the actor was great in the limited time he had, his motivations are as dull as most other marvel villains, he is basically a thief/common criminal, there is nothing deep in his character.

Also lol at the villain marvel ranks when the muscly blacklivesmatter activist that want to give weapons to black people to fuck up white people is probably in one of the highest positions aswell...

And peter being a pussy and an inept that cause more damage than the fucking villain after fighting the avengers make no sense no matter how we spin it, in the first movie he can barely do shit without causing troubles but he fights on par with experienced fighters, get the fuck out of here (not you drizzy).

Raimi peter was also a nerdy loser, but it was never a pussy inept.

Let's just agree to disagree.

Let's be honest, Black Panther was just a giant propaganda and there's nothing special about this movie (in fact, it's ranks among the worst ones in the entire Infinity Saga for me). The only reason everyone gave it so much attention and sang so much praise to its various aspects is because it paid phoney lip service to BLM. They tried doing similar shit with Shang-Chi and nobody cared because no one coined "Chinese lives matter" as a slogan for a social movement yet.

Are you sure? He spent like half of Spider-Man 2 crying and failing. Until he got his shit together because - surprise, surprise - he got over it and grew as a character. Just like Holland's Peter Parker does in the new movies.

His powers go in and out, i would be depressed aswell if i wasn't capable of being a hero or protecting the people i care because my powers are failing me, if you remember well, this whole thing was the most criticized thing in the whole movie because it was super-forced to create drama.

Still not as much of a pussy as peter getting threatened by a simple human inside a car when he can slightly smack him and detach his head from his body with ease (literally), i felt second hand embarassment for peter in that scene.

Who the fuck are you to menace me dude, i can kill you in this instant if you even try to menace me or my family, this was the only valid response to a 60 years old menacing a super human, i get that they were trying to build up the vulture but you really have to turn off your brain for that scene to make sense or just accept that peter doesn't have a fucking spine whatsoever.

It's the other way around. His powers were going out because he was depressed. Or more specifically, because of anxiety caused by super stressful life style. The whole movie is about him sort of coming to terms with the responsibility of being a superhero.

Well, for one, he's not Lobo to be lopping people's heads off at the slightest provocation, lol. He was kinda put on the spot with a gun pointed at his dick with a bunch of people standing just outside the car. Kind of a pickle if you ask me, especially if you wanna keep a low profile as a superhero. Not to mention that the guy threatened his family as well, so Peter did the right thing and waited until he didn't have a gun pointed at him and didn't had to fight there in front of everyone before he decided to go after the bad guy.

Dude, peter has super human reflexes and speed, he could have fucked up the dude at any given moment, guns or not, let's be real.

And exactly why he threat his family that he should have been clear with the dude and not act like a pussy.

Imagine if you had the same powers as peter and this old dude was threatening your family...

It was a well acted scene, one of the best in movie, but stupid nevertheless.

He could have just break both his hands or legs to take him out, and instead he wait even if he knows that the dude is dangerous and up to no good.
If someone die during their final fights it would be all on peter shoulders for not stopping the guy when he had the chance to do it but it was to pussy to act.

And then what? Get out of the car and be like "Oh sorry I had to break your dad's arms because he threatened to kill me because I'm Spider-Man and he's Vulture and he figured me out just now... anyway, BEER PONG!"

Starting a fight in a car would draw unwanted attention, how difficult is that to understand?

Also, I'm not a superhero expert but he's no Flash or Quicksilver, he may have superhuman strength and speed but the movies never made him out to be so fast to be able to dodge a bullet at point blank range.

By visual preferences, do you mean......standards for visual quality?

If I say "I don't like this thing based on this characteristic but I do like that thing based on the same characteristic judgement" and someone else says "well, I like them both" then by the very definition of the phrase the other person has lower standards. It doesn't have to be a negative statement. Sheesh.

That was an extreme idea sure, but it would be easy to put an old man on his place.

A normal person with a spine and superpowers would never be such a pussy when someone threat your family.

And it is even worse when you consider that he had the balls to fight 2 "rogue" avengers in civil war (where he didn't looked like an inept idiot)

That applies only if both people are using the same "standard".

If person A judges spectacle to be more important than fidelity, and person B finds the opposite to be true, then person A may like two films for the scale of the scenes presented, and person B may only like one of them, due to the other having certain technical faults. But we can't say from this that person A has "lower" standards, precisely because on his scale, the "weight" of each element is different.

I really enjoyed the movie, yesterday was the premiere and today the official release in D.R. Outside Spiderman NWH, it's the most enoyable Marvel movie i have seen in a while, more in line with the first GOTG than the second one, which i found somewhat boring. It works as a stand alone film, with no cameos or anything related to the bigger Marvel MCU.

James Gunn will definitely be missed, and i don't really think any other director can actually carry the mantle of the franchise going forward.

Best mcu movie since no way home. Thats how you end a trilogy. Quite a bit darker and sadder than previous guardians. Also outstanding villain (for mcu standard) that you just wanted to hate.

When Rocket was revived and Nebula finally broke down at the news was the most emotional shit ever.

I would be extremely surprised if this tanked, but if it does then yeah the marvel bubble may have burst. But I wouldn’t count Marvel out until we see how the first movie that fully integrates the X-men performs

Fair enough.

Not really, from an actual writing perspective it's a complete mess. Garfield and Dafoe basically carry the whole thing and Holland's Peter finally starts resemble the character by the end of it so it at least ends on an upswing.

Garfield actually has a nice redemption arc in this movie that he never got in his own Amazing Spider-Man films, lol. He's in the movie for maybe like 20 minutes in total but it's the best he's ever been as the character.

It's a big nostalgia fest but it kinda works as this multiverse-like crossover movie. You should check it out especially if you liked the Sam Raimi films. You should at least get the kick out of that.

Far From Home might be my favorite MCU movie though... mostly because Mysterio is my favorite villain and I never thought we'd get far enough in to the movies for that / have find someone come up with a compelling modern take on him. I thought it was great and had a good message.
