I dunno, I think Uncharted 2 has a pretty good chance of getting it from Gamespot/1up/Gamepro/Gameinformer.
 
GAFs are the only ones that matter. Even when I don't entirely agree, they always have an excellent range of games.

Definitely not GameInformer. I'll cocede that Uncharted 2 has a good chance of getting the GOTY from the other outlets you've mentioned, but I wouldn't say that it's the most likely scenario.
 
Speaking of GAF, what else needs to come out for the GOTY awards to open? Zelda ST, I presume.

I'd like Demon Souls getting more nods, as well as Batman AA. These 2 games should atleast be in the nominees for different categories.

But yeah uncharted 2 will top a few lists.
 
MW2 even getting a consideration is ridiculous. It wasn't even the best FPS released this year.

MGS4 in June was borderline!
 
Ubi is screwing themselves over by releasing AC2's PC version later. It could've been a strong contender on my '09 list but now it's getting moved to 2010.

The concept deserved even more hype, shit's fucking brilliant. Its execution was flawed - some might say broken - though.

The concept itself isn't that impressive to me, either. The only impressive thing about the game was how many words you could actually put in and the game would understand. Just having a bunch of shit in a puzzle game doesn't make it good, though. Something like portal needed a gun and all of two buttons to have some really clever and awesome puzzles.

If anything, the idea of using anything I wish doesn't really make it seem like a puzzle game, but rather a bunch of challenges. A puzzle to me seems more fitting if it's about finding a solution to a problem with limited resources.
 
This thread is making me realize how out of sync with gaming journalists' taste I am. That kinda sucks, in a way.

It has sold to 10x as many people as Uncharted 2, and is multi-platform, its a no brainer for the GOTY award.

Little Big Planet sold poorly yet was given ton of awards from various sources, sales are not really much of an indicator of awards usually.

EDIT..I think Uncharted 2 will win the majority of online sites...I do not think it will win SPIKE awards though. Those TV awards tend to reward games with the largest sales numbers.

The only game I've played this year that was really good was Batman. It'll probably be in the mix somewhere.

I haven't played MW2 yet, but I can imagine it's pretty fucking awesome.

Uncharted 2 is going to fall to GTA IV syndrome here fairly quickly. Good games, but zero staying power. I finished UC2 over the course of 3 evenings, and then sold it. It was fun while it lasted, but like the first game, there just wasn't much there. If these we were judging based on cinematic value that would be one thing, but as games? Batman was a far better action/adventure.

Odd as Batman to me was definition of game to be played and sold immediately after beating with no staying power, UC2 at least has robust MP to keep a person going with coop and competitive modes and lots of unlocs.
 
As always, apparently less than ten games have been released this year. But I guess its accurate if you consider who we're guessing for.

it's funny to see so many MW2 'votes' (can I call them that?) here. the game was good, but it wasn't exceptional (and there have been a handful of exceptional games released this year).

Anyways, I think all the sites are going to pick Uncharted 2 or MW2. Probably skewed more towards Uncharted.


My wishes for game of the year: Street Fighter IV and New Super Mario Bros Wii.
